This @WaltDisneyWorld Resort is so special to me and this stay marks our fourth time checking in. The first time was during my birthday weekend in 2021 with David, my mother and grandmother. The last time we stayed here (exactly one year ago to the day) I was eight months pregnant and dreaming of the day I could swim with my child in the Paddock Pool (which finally happened this afternoon)! 🔱🧜🏾♀️💦🐠🦀the dinglehopper has officially been passed from Jodi to Halle and goodness I am in love with live action Ariel! @Disney’s newly released, reimagined and retold live action film “The Little Mermaid” was an instant hit. This beautifully told story—from the moment we are taken under the sea through to the very end on shore—has instantly become my favorite Live Action to date! @HalleBailey is pure magic as Ariel and fully embodies the character’s childlike curiosity paired with her deep heartbreaking yearning for belonging, acceptance and unconditional love. It’s no secret that “The Little Mermaid” was never my favorite Disney animated feature. As a feminist I could never get past this naive girl willingly giving up her voice for a man she just met. Yet, this new adaptation remarkably takes the core essence of the original plot while seamlessly adding to it in a way that is more current for today’s audience. Indeed, it wasn’t until the very end of this new version, when Javier Bardem’s Triton looks at his daughter with adoration and says “you shouldn’t have had to give up your voice to be heard” that the whole entire plot of this movie turned upside down for me. Suddenly, Ariel giving up her voice is no longer a sign of weakness but rather that of great strength. Maybe “bright young women (who are) sick of swimming (and) ready to stand” actually need the help of allies around them to shout their message even louder so their voices can be heard. So rippling generational change can occur. I already know that I need to go back and see this beautiful film again and again. I LOVE the new songs written by @Lin_Manuel, I ADORE the new gender bent Scuttle voiced by @Awkwafina, and I left the theatre DREAMING of Disney dropping a sequel for this (we need to hear more about these uncharted adventures!!!). But, for now, catch me at Hollywood Studios giving Ariel all the hugs while daydreaming about voyages to new places.

We recently stopped by their week day happy hour, which is available Monday-Friday from 12PM-3PM and had their cocktail special. Their happy hour cocktail special rotates weekly and is $12.50, which for Disney cocktail prices is a steal of a deal. We try to go here when we are in Orlando and I have to admit the food is excellent along with the dinosaur theme. Gideon’s Bakehouse has officially opened at Disney Springs today, with a 9 hour queue 30 minutes after opening! These handcrafted (almost) half pound cookies and decadent cake slabs are super popular and have a huge local following. Each cookie and cake takes a 20 hour process to prepare. Gideon’s is a real homegrown, heartwarming success story too - owner Steve Lewis began baking chocolate chip cookies in his home kitchen, delivering locally on his bicycle. It grew so popular, locals had to place orders weeks in advance. Gideon’s Bakehouse opened a 286 square foot bakery in Orlando’s East End Market in 2016. One guy, no investors and a single member of staff. Gideon’s long awaited flagship store at Disney Springs had a soft opening before the holidays for a few days and is officially open as of today.
