[TORONTO EATS]: There are so many good Asian food in this city that my stuffed tummy is hating me so much right now 😂 A lot of my friends recommended Jackpot and indeed it is a gem in the heart of Chinatown. Must gets are Hainanese Chicken Rice and Grilled Hanoi Pork Jowl (omg still drooling). Wanted to try their Lobster Noodles but we all had so much food that would be suicidal. Their soft shell crab bun was ok. I’d rather eat soft shell crab by itself. Its just me. AND the meal was pretty affordable, that’s another big big like. 😝

Wonderful asian fusion dining experience! 🏮🎏✨ The drinks were fabulous. The Singapore Sling was a little strong but definitely yummy 😋. The coconut water was refreshing and fleshy! Ha! @mamasculinaryjourney was able to scoop out some soft coconut flesh. Crispy chicken skins were veeery light + crispy, but flavourful. A lot of interesting dishes!! Dumplings were scrumptious, but my favourite was the Jackpot Chicken and rice 😍😍😍SO GOOD. I was surprised they would get the seasoning so perfect. My mom and I ate in silence when we ate the chicken. Plus, the rice was sweet 👅. Would definitely come back again to try the feature dishes.

J A C K P O T : T H E F O O D // Yup, that's a 6oz slab of #foiegras (a $22 add-on) on top of @eatjackpot's #JackpotChicken ($16), their take on #HainaneseChicken served with #gingerscallion oil and #chillisauce. Chicken was as moist and tender as any I've had. The #foie goes really well with the chicken. Sorta like how Nong's Khao Man Gai has a chicken liver add-on. It's a dream with the fragrant & flavourful "Schmaltzy Rice" aka #ChickenRice ($11 for four), which is cooked with their master stock and pandan leaves. Topped with fried garlic and green onions. Next was the Fire Roasted Chicken ($16), glazed with sambal. So good! Moist and flavourful. Crispy Chicken Skins ($7) were baked THREE TIMES in a secret process with their housemade sriracha salt. Amazing snack!! I'm not overhyping this. Look at how flat and rigid it is. Seasoning spot-on. Sigh, I'm gonna miss Toronto. The next few dishes were: Kaffir (Mugrut) Broccoli Tempura ($9, really good), Hanoi Pork Jowl ($18), fantastically crispy and explosive Sugar Cane 'n Garlic Wings ($18, special feature) similar conceptually to Korean fried chicken with sauce, Popcorn Chicken ($11) with a Chiu Chow-style sauce, and lastly Cereal Killa Prawns ($21). Whew! This is modern Asian #comfortfood that I can get behind. Their older sister restaurant @patoistoronto is set to reopen in early August. J A C K P O T : T H E P L A C E // Last year, we had reservations to go to Craig Wong's @patoistoronto but the night before there was a fire in the same building, which forced Patois to close down — permanently 😭 (until early August, that is! 😁). We were all gutted, but Craig turned the situation around and opened @eatjackpot on Spadina shortly thereafter, with the same crew that worked at Patois. We tried it earlier this week and loved it. (I'll talk about the food in my next post.) The lighting fixtures look like they were pulled from a Chinese dry goods store right in the same neighborhood and it totally works. It was great to see a Phillips beer all the way out east, too. In fact, our server was originally from Chilliwack, BC! Remember the 70s/80s rock band Chilliwack? Were they actually from Chilliwack? Can u believe anyone would want to rep Chilliwack? 😜 Anyways, remember when I saw a Chris Pine lookalike at the Upright Brewing tap takeover at Dageraad? Well, our server also looked like Chris Pine EXCEPT a very specific Chris Pine — Chris Pine doing William Shatner on SNL. What a guy. We got to meet Craig and he was nice too. There was a mentally ill street person who wandered into the restaurant, but the staff handled the situation professionally. This whole area and Kensington Market nearby feels so very unlike Vancouver. Lots of character and "characters" walking around. Style and grittiness.
