THE POPE’S EXORCIST (2023) ~ 5/10 • What helps keep the film entertaining at the very least is Russell Crowe is certainly having fun throughout with his over-the-top performance. It’s like imagine if Anthony Hopkins’s version of Van Helsing in BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA had gotten his own modern-day spin-off movie The film saves the best for last as it includes action, violence, nudity in other words all the naughty stuff. Even though the film has plenty of racy scenes means more to shock and show the possession. The last act of this film is so off the wall and overrated yet fun. That you wish the whole movie had been like that. As it stands out because before that the movie had been so basic and unoriginal. Something you have seen before. thought it might make an interesting first horror film for those being introduced to the horror genre. It’s not that good but what you hope for, leaving room for a franchise. Considering the director Julien Avery who has directed the crazy and entertaining OVERLORD who seems to be when he lets loose. After trying so hard to keep it simple and build up the tension. So with this film, he feels like he is holding back on purpose until the end. The film is a strange mix as it seems to want to contain itself and seem realistic by trying to stick to the facts. Though there are plenty of places throughout especially the end. When it feels purely Hollywood-pumped-up storytelling. The film feels like a weekend box office movie placeholder more designed to bring in a quick buck and have a top spot for the opening weekend and be a go-to in the following weeks for people. who needs to buy a ticket or see something else other than the # 1 sold-out movie. So this is kind of like a B-movie. Μόνο που μολονότι στην αρχή δεν παρακολουθεί τίποτα περισσότερο από ορδές θρησκόληπτων και ευκολόπιστων ανθρώπων, αυτό που ακολουθεί τον κάνει να αναρωτιέται εάν η Άλις έχει δεχθεί τη χάρη της Παναγίας ή κάποιου πιο ζοφερού όντος. Τυπικής αφήγησης ταινία θρησκοληπτικού τρόμου που σταδιακά φέρνει την ανατροπή, προσφέροντας καλοστημένες σκηνές φρίκης και κάμποσες τρομάρες. Είναι γεγονός πως τα φιλμ τρόμου που άπτονται θρησκειών λειτουργούν περισσότερο υποβλητικά στη συνείδηση του θεατή, γεγονός που η "Ανίερη" εκμεταλλεύεται στο έπακρο. Η σκηνοθεσία του Ήβαν Σπηλιωτόπουλου (για πρώτη φορά στην καρέκλα του σκηνοθέτη), ο οποίος συνυπογράφει και το σενάριο με τον Τζέημς Χέρμπερτ (του Σπηλιωτόπουλου ήταν και το σενάριο της ταινίας "Ο Εξορκιστής του Βατικανού") εκμεταλλεύεται την πεπατημένη του είδους και τη σκοτεινιά της ιστορίας του με ικανοποιητικά αποτελέσματα και με σύμμαχό του τον σκωπτικό Τζέφρυ Ντην Μόργκαν στον ρόλο του δημοσιογράφου που ως επί το πλείστον κουβαλάει το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του φιλμ επάνω του. Καλοδουλεμένα τα εφφέ όπως και η φωτογραφία εξυπηρετούν και το έλα να δεις του φινάλε, προσφέροντας ένα τίμια τρομακτικό αποτέλεσμα, ασφυκτικά όμως κλεισμένο στα γνώριμα κλισέ του είδους.

Dzień dobry! Witajcie, po przerwie, w filmowej sobocie! Co ciekawego oglądaliście ostatnio? Powiem wam, że przy maluszku wygodniejszą formą są dla nas krótsze treści, dlatego częściej sięgamy po seriale. Mimo tego dziś o filmie, bo są takie treści, które można "oglądać" będąc czymś zajętym - dla mnie jest to na pewno m.in. Duma i Uprzedzenie (miniserial BBC z 1995) czy Zaplątani. Do tej listy przynależy także Piękna i Bestia i to zarówno w formie rysunkowej, jak i aktorskiej. Fabuły pewnie nie trzeba za bardzo nikomu przybliżać (choć i tak to zrobię). Bella jest w swojej wiosce uważana za dziwaczkę niemal przez wszystkich z wyjątkiem Gastona - przystojnego choć zadufanego w sobie du.. młodzieńca. Kiedy pewnego dnia jej ojciec nie wraca do domu z wyprawy postanawia go odnaleźć. Ślady prowadzą ją do zamku, gdzie królują zaczarowane przedmioty oraz książę zaklęty w ciało bestii. No i tyle. Historia nie pierwszej świeżości, lecz zajmująca i przyjemna. Wersja aktorska różni się nieco od rysunkowej - jest na przykład więcej piosenek, a Emma Watson (Bella) starała się dodać swojej postaci odrobinę postawy feministycznej. Jak to wypadło? Każdy powinien ocenić sam, a jeśli chodzi o moje zdanie to średnio . Z gry aktorskiej najlepiej wypadł Luke Evans (Gaston) oraz Josh Gad (Le Fou) - ci dwaj naprawdę doskonale się sprawdzili w swoich rolach i wyglądali jakby świetnie się bawili. Dubbing (tak jak to w Disneyu) jest całkiem niezły, aczkolwiek zdecydowanie lepiej oglądało mi się w oryginale. W Polskiej wersji językowej początkowa pieść Belli sprawia, że odbieram ją bardziej jako wyniosłą i nieco bardziej rozumiem niechęć mieszkańców wobec niej. Warto zobaczyć tę interpretacje znanej i kochanej baśni. Home Release Review: "The Pope’s Exorcist" from EoM Senior Critic Hunter Heilman. From a purely horror standpoint, “The Pope’s Exorcist” doesn’t really do anything new for the exorcism sub-genre, despite some good direction from Avery, but there is something in the film that many other films of the like forget to include, and that’s character. Sure, Crowe is hamming it up portraying a real-life exorcist accused of being a fraud, but I also found him endearing and found myself rooting for not only him, but also for the characters around him, fleshed out by unnecessarily effective performances from Zovatto and Essoe. It’s that little bit of flourish that makes a film like this worthwhile, and it’s a difficult balancing act of making something that’s both laughably campy at times while also engaging the audience to actually feel something other than the urge to look at their watch the entire time. Sony’s Blu-ray is technically proficient, even if it is lacking in supplemental material. This one is worth a rainy, cozy afternoon watch. Available on digital May 30th, 2023. Nunca sabes si es una película de terror, una parodia del género o está entre los dos mundos. El guion sin duda se toma mucho en serio, pero el personaje de Russell Crowe es un caramelito. Solo verle en la vespa por roma con los calcetines rojos ya te saca una sonrisa, pero cada frase que suelta el personaje es una maravilla. 👹 Tiene algunos errores: hay un cepillo de dientes del Lidl actual (estamos en la España de los 80) y Russell Crowe va de Roma a Castilla en Vespa, pero nada importa. te mueres tanto de risa como de miedo. Porque el demonio es terrorífico, el exorcismo transmite peligro y el giro de guion es cojonudo. Pero cuando vi quién la dirigía todo me encajó. Julius Avery puede haber tropezado son “Samaritan” pero “Overlord “es una gran película. Esta está en la misma línea. 🪙 “El exorcista del papa” es una delicia. #ThePopesExorcist Movie Review (3.25/5): After many failed attempts at studios striving to recreate the terror of #TheExorcist, I wasn't sure there was much of a chance at effectively resurrecting the exorcism genre. “The Pope's Exorcist” isn't a film that'll reinvent the wheel, but it's surely one of those better attempts. #JuliusAvery 's film is stuck somewhere between your average possession flick and #NationalTreasure. Though it does fallback on a familiar storyline of a child falling under the spell of evil, #RussellCrowe breathes life into playing #GabrieleAmorth. Based on the memoirs of the chief exorcist of the Vatican, Crowe injects a layer of humor we never knew we needed in such a film. His wisecracking laidback personality slightly raises “The Pope's Exorcist” above being quickly forgotten. Narratively, it's clear that #MichaelPetroni and #EvanSpiliotopoulos take creative liberties at stretching the events it's inspired by. At times, it feels as if it wants to ride off of the fame of #TheConjuring. Setting itself up for a universe molded around the leading priest himself. Avery's direction is solid for this type of work, but it's hard to imagine an exorcism film not relying on what's been done prior. Despite this, it moves along at a brisk pace. My biggest pet peeve with “The Pope's Exorcist” is the cringy CGI. The pacing and performances mostly proved my fears false, though not every work in this subgenre needs a flashy visual to showcase its demon. Less is often more. I do give #Sony credit for running with its R-rating, but much of the aesthetic becomes wonky and disjointed in its final moments. Amorth admirably faces the beast with his faith, but there's a lot going on at once. It may keep your average mainstream viewer intrigued, for the time being, but there's definitely something great bogged down by all the excess. I should be grateful that the studio did take this one back to the basics of young foul-mouthed antics, graphic imagery and a sense of comedic relief that somehow works. “The Pope's Exorcist” is largely a testament to Russell Crowe’s talent.
