I did a full chrome silver over this, then went over the trim with a light metallic black layer. Once cured I hit the whole lot with light coat of cherry red, to still show the shades underneath and then hit it with a Matte varnish. The production design is unparalleled and way ahead of its time, the score breathes life into Middle-Earth in a manner unmatched by pretty much any other film I've seen, and Elijah Wood!!! The casting for this is already exceptional, but Elijah Wood stands out phenomenally in his performance here, which is saying a lot since he is among a host of great actors. I don't know how Peter Jackson did it, but even though I've been watching this film pretty much annually, I was still captivated by the action scenes and became very emotional in the more heartwrenching ones. Not a book review sorry. But still literature based. This time last week I got to see the amazing Ian McKellen as Falstaff live in ‘Player Kings’. This show portrayed both of William Shakespeares plays on King Henry IV Part 1 and Part 2. Also happened to be the third theatre show I’ve seen this year. Would recommend seeing a play live to anyone and I feel so lucky I got to see Ian/Gandalf himself in the flesh portraying such a great character. All the rest of the cast were amazing too and will certainly be looking into what else they have done. Also sorry I’ve not done any book reviews for a while. Very slowly working my way through 4 books. Quando o filme estava em desenvolvimento a Paramount ofereceu a Sarah o papel de Yvaine, mas ela acabou recusando ele por não querer passar tanto tempo longe do marido o Freddie Prinze Jr. e assim Claire Danes que era a 1°opção do diretor do longa papel foi escalada como Yvaine. Eu teria amada ver a Sarah no filme, mas a atuação da Claire foi tão impecável que eu não conseguiria imaginar outra pessoa no papel. X-MEN is a film from 2000 written by David Hayter and directed by Bryan Singer. It tells the story of two mutants who are saved after an attack and join a private academy where the superhero group the X-MEN resident there, who then have to fight against another mutant with similar powers. I love these characters and seeing them in a live action form from this film was awesome. From Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, and Sir Ian McKellen’s Magneto, everybody plays these characters in their true form and don’t disappoint whatsoever. Bryan Singer’s direction in here is solid and the writing is good here from Hayter. It’s a great introduction to a group of characters we haven’t been introduced to in its live action form. Player Kings at the Noël Coward Theatre, Dir. Robert Icke - 6/10 & ⭐️⭐️⭐️ My relationship with Shakespeare is touch and go. I like most of his plays but there are some I don’t. There are loads I’ve not seen and Henry the fourth was one I’ve never seen before, didn’t know much about it. I saw Ian McKellen was in it and that’s what sold me to come and watch this. Robert Icke and the creative team have done a wonderful job in taking two plays and adapting them into one cohesive story. I think the flow of this works really well. The continuity was good, from start to finish. You feel by the end you’ve come full circle. I also loved the set and the staging, lots of swift transitions between scenes which are so slick and consistent. Lighting & sound are used well, to emphasise mood & tone of intensity within a scene - the war of Northumberland for instance. Credit to Wigs, Hair & make up as that was superb. Toheeb Jimoh is brilliant as Prince Hal. I liked the way his character was presented. Parts of his behaviour are influenced by him hanging out in taverns with thieves. Richard Coyle was magnificent as Henry IV. He has such a commanding presence & is quite frightening & intimidating. Ian McKellen. Undeniably a titan of the stage and screen & a master of his craft. I’d say ninety percent of the audience (myself included) were there to see him. It’s worth pointing out that the play would be nothing without him. I just felt the emotional depth between Falstaff and Hal was missing. I found Falstaff to be a freeloader, he doesn’t really have relationships because he uses people. So when Hal finally rejects Falstaff. I felt relieved - ditch him mate, he’s a freeloader. The play lacks the emotional nuance it deserves which for me was a big problem. It was also unnecessarily lengthy. To the point where people in the audience were starting to nod off. Though Player Kings triumphs in some areas & shows new ways of seeing Shakespeare.
