"and i hated you when we were younger / at least back then i thought i did / so afraid you'd blow my cover / that i was just a little kid" -- "marginalia" by @ellajanemusic! i've been looking forward to posting this incredible indie pop masterpiece since i first heard it last october, but i wanted to wait until i received both copies in the mail. i've been a fan of ella's since she only had 3 singles out and i was thrilled for this album back when it was announced. it's just bop after bop. the track i chose for the soundtrack to this post is one of the more acoustic songs on the album, but there are also several more upbeat songs, too. they don't all sound the same, but they work together so well. the deluxe version of "marginalia," which is the gold one you can see, also features a bonus track called "dog years" (which ella produced herself- so cool!) and a remix of "sore loser" featuring charlie hickey, ella's boyfriend who is also an artist (he's signed to saddest factory records, @phoebebridgers's label!). i was so psyched to receive my copies of this album, and i'm so thrilled to be able to spin it and hold it in my hands. what an incredible project. i 100% recommend it. -- #music #indiepop #indiemusic #faderlabel #ellajane #marginalia #charliehickey #ellajanevinyl #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinylcollector #recordcollection #recordcollector #record

"lock hanging 'round my neck and you don't get the key" -- "immunity" by @clairo! i love this album. even though it came out in 2019, it still feels fresh to me, and i've never gotten tired of it. this is my default studying album to put on in the background while i work. while i love clairo's latest album, "sling," "immunity" is still my favorite of her discography- it's just so solid. even if you haven't ever listened to this album (which you should!), you might recognize some of the more popular tracks like "bags" and "sofia." Originally a lower ranking album for me for the year, this album has definitely shown its stripes and played its heart out to my ears to making it to one of my favorites from 2021. Saul Williams: The Inevitable Rise And Liberation Of Niggy Tardust Release Date: November 1 2007 (Reissue Release Date: November 23 2018) Label: @faderlabel (Catalogue Number: FL-1820) Genre: Industrial Hip Hop, Political Hip Hop \ I remember downloading this album for $5 when it was released in 2007 and pouring over the PDF that came with the digital download of it. I can honestly say that this was the first hip hop album that I ever fully got into, and I honestly haven't heard one since that has kept me as engrossed as this one. Saul's flow, lyrics, and delivery are all top-notch, and the production by Trent Reznor fits Saul perfectly. "Black History Month," "Banged And Blown Through," "No One Ever Does," the title track... it's all stellar and compelling material. I would even go so far as to say that Williams's cover of "Sunday Bloody Sunday" outdoes the original. This pressing has some bonus songs on Side D, some of which make sense, like "Pedagogue Of Young Gods" and "Gunshots By Computer," and some don't, like "List Of Demands (Reparations)."
