Here’s how I spent a couple hours exploring stunning sandstone formations in one of Nevada’s most vibrant places (Save this post for a little itinerary ⬇️) 🏜️ Take a scenic drive down Mouse Tank Road and stop at a few pull outs to capture some incredible views! The most iconic photo spot is along this road and while it is a little climb, it’s definitely worth it! 🏜️ Hike the Fire Wave trail! This 1.3 mile stretch will lead you to an otherworldly experience where colors and landscapes come together in a beautiful way. No need to leave the pups out, this trail is dog friendly so they can enjoy the views too! 🏜️ Catch a little bit of sunset before getting kicked out! The park is open from sunrise to sunset and most trailheads will have an officer to let you know how much time you have left before you need to head out. We arrived at the Fire Wave trailhead just before sunset. The officer said we have about 45 minutes before the park closes and that was just enough time to explore and catch a stunning view of the sunset glow on the rock formations. The Fire Wave is probably the most visited rock formation in Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada, accessible via a 1.3 mile out-and-back trail over dirt and sandstone. While it's a nice example of the color striations found throughout the park, I feel like it's a bit overhyped.

It couldn’t have been a more perfect way to say “goodbye”! ⠀ ⠀ What’s crazy is…this may be the longest time we’ve spent in a single location in years?! (3 months in Southern Nevada). How often do you get outside? I haven’t as often as I’d like lately. Life gets busy and it’s so easy to come up with excuses why you can’t. But lately I’ve been trying to at least go for a short hike close to home after work. And it helps! Work from home has been great but if I don’t make a conscious effort, I would spend 24/7 in my bedroom besides short bathroom walks for the boys. So getting outside and enjoying fresh air and nature is a must.
