Always appreciate it when aqua members pull back the pool rings. At some gyms for aqua— it’s the instructor’s sole job (takes a lot of extra time if swimmers doing laps don’t want to stop for us… ongoing issues with lane usage at some gyms.) Some gyms also have a tool that unlocks the rings … and only staff can have it. Trouble is, it usually can’t be found or staff is busy etc. So much less stress when the members are helpful and also allowed to help. A rough week personally but I’ll count the highs… made a friend, realized someone I thought wasn’t a friend IS a friend… continued working out with my surprise 5 am workout buddy! (I had been praying for a workout friend and a neighborhood friend dropped in my lap) …worked out 6x a week with a double or two in the mix… found support in my spouse… subbed a special ed class and got to see some of my special ed friends from a previous sub week… while rejected for a job I want, I got a next step for a job that popped up… applied for a job back in news (!) — marketing side… found time to listen to my kids and ask valuable questions back … subbed a senior fitness class and thoroughly enjoyed it. … saw a dog get sworn in at a city council 🙃✅ Realizing these are the times I’ll look back and say, “This is what I did between full time jobs.” 🥹 #fitnessfunmonica #garageworkout #sunday #fitkids #anxiety #fitness

I ended up there thanks to my kid’s account, not mine! @foodmykidslove ate chicken and waffles , chicken and egg tacos, and kettle-made chips their heart’s content. This was extra special because in a fateful twist, my husband and I have always been fans of @maplestreetbiscuitcompany because we were regulars at the OG restaurant in Jacksonville, FL in 2012. It was a lifetime ago when I worked for the city’s mayor in public affairs and before kids. Known for fresh made biscuits and fried chicken, their menu has expanded a bit since we saw them last! Thanks @confidentcpr in Wylie, TX for the easygoing cpr class! I was expired by a “bit” and realized I needed to get recertification while I am between full time jobs. Sharmeen was great. This was in legit location where I felt safe and comfy. Booking was easy with texting and then paying online. My cert will be emailed today too. Being a fitness instructor, I have been getting and renewing my CPR and other add-on’s like Basic Life Saving BLS for more than a decade. I have never had to use it in class, but I have actually used the skills I learned in cpr for infant choking for my own son. He was choking on a cherry tomato and I knew how to place him head and chest down to deliver life-saving back blows 😞 and, it worked. #fitnessfunmonica #cprtraining #wylietx #dfwfitness

Growth is interesting… I didn’t realize I was growing until this week. Here are some pics from things I’m doing aside from fitness. I have a flexible part time job and I’m volunteering at a few places too. My part time job at Waxing the City Wylie has a community outreach aspect. Part of that is being involved at our local chamber of commerce meetings. Here, I’m listening to a seminar on successful sales at our Thursday coffee networking meeting in Murphy, TX. The growth… it’s uncomfortable. It’s being excited for something and realizing it’s not the right thing. It’s saying “this is how it is today, but not for always.” It’s realizing this is the time to commit to a difficult workout plan, while I have the time. It’s being fairly uncomfortable in my own skin and clothes as I try to get healthier. So here’s to growth— it’s an odd place to be #fitnessfunmonica
What a great strength class today at @bft_murphy I wasn’t feeling quite up for a work out after having a little bit of a bad morning. But I was so glad I made the extra effort to get out because it’s more than a work out. It was really just being around positive people and positive energy and good strength work. Garage workout with my extra large roll out mat . It worked great with the step work, and was great for transitioning to bear crawls—not needing to wear gloves. The workout was just 45-minutes since I was logging in to various jobs and tasks… I was super close to just calling it with no workout. Hoping for more motivation. I prefer solid hour workouts. Garage workouts have been coming back for me… now that the weather is nicer and not deathly hot yet #texas , and now that I don’t always have to wake up at 430 am to work out thanks to a more flexible schedule, I am moving a bit better. I left my desk job about one month ago. Since leaving, I am no longer commuting 15 hours a week. I am moving more. My steps are back up. It was honestly painful to get back from about 5,000 steps a day to 10,000 or more. My body ached every day while my muscles came back. My knees don’t hurt when I stand up. I can get up from the couch with more control. My balance is still not great, so I’m working on glute stability moves. I’m working out back with people at BFT Murphy , which keeps me honest and disciplined. For the days I can’t swing it, I’ve been in the garage and back running!!! I don’t really have scale gains yet but I know I feel better. Todays workout was a few favorite and least favorite moves. At home headshots… I was admiring this yellow background when googling headshot ideas. This background didn’t turn out as bright as I hoped, but I’m happy with the final product! I used my trusty Nikon 3200 with a standard lens on a heavy duty tripod. I put the camera through the center of a ring light on max white light. Celebrating a few days off after a great Santa event for employees and our kids at my workplace. It’s been a huge transition to go back to the office life, but I think I’m doing ok 🙂 Health-wise, I’ve gotten off my anxiety meds, which I was on since my severe panic attack that landed me in the ER during the pandemic. I’m also eating the best I have in years. There’s little temptation around work and on the way— like my beloved drive through restaurants. I almost always take my breakfast, lunch and protein shake. I’m eating a lot of eggs and real protein (chicken , ground beef etc). I try to stand half the day at my desk too. Working at an office has forced me to slow down and stay organized. I’m only working out three or four days a week at 5 am, but I’m trying hard. It’s been a big life shift. Long ago, before kids, I was a tv news reporter for 10 years in Peoria, IL, Green Bay, WI and Jacksonville, FL. I got out and did public affairs for the City of Jacksonville for two years. We had our first kiddo and I struggled immensely with what I now know is severe anxiety and post partum depression. I had to leave my job and career… taking nine years off, filling the void with fitness and my kids. Workouts hitting a little differently lately… I’ve been going on my own to garage and home workouts. I can’t keep a schedule, and the failure of missing my beloved CG was really hard on me. I’ve gained a lot of weight since the spring but I’m hopeful constant movement and a better diet will get me on the right track. Today, it was 5 a.m. @lesmills SPRINT (hit bike). I have my bike in my dining room. For the Les Mills fans: I’ve done BodyPump 126 a few times (newest one out to Les Mills instructors. It came out this week in our app— quarterly release) . Amazing job with this one crew! Feels cheesy to say but “hey I know her”. Lula Slaughter 😍 “If the bar can’t challenge you, it can’t change you!” Great quote in track 4. Spoiler alert: look out for the new moves throughout, but especially in triceps (track 5) and lunges (track 7). BODYPUMP — look for it at a gym or in the App Store (Les Mills) 🏋🏽♀️ I’m especially a fan of the new side lunge in track 7. This is a common move in CG, and I was quite stiff doing those as a BP-er. Garage BodyStep for the first time in more than half a year… I broke my foot earlier this summer, so it’s been a lot to get back to lateral workouts. My foot that has healed just felt a bit of discomfort, but I’m so glad to be back at it. My feet still get a bit tired, but I know they are getting stronger!
