• Three hours on the bike - indoors because I didn’t have time/motivation to take my bike off the trainer, swap the trainer tire for a road tire, and drive out to somewhere nice for riding that long - plus this workout had specific power intervals that I wanted to hit. (Speaking of watts, my bike power meter consistently reads about 30-35 watts higher than Zwift is reporting, even after I’ve calibrated my power meter. Anyone else encounter that issue? Have a solution?) So indoors it was! With a triathlon race on and some lovely Instagram friends for company ☺️🫶 Then a 30-minute run, not quite off-the-bike but definitely on fatigued legs. Admittedly ran it a little faster than prescribed… but it felt really good! And I love running off a bike workout!! Not exactly sure why 🤔 And now it’s on to the weekend! • Hi Instafriends! Early bike workout for me this morning: 3 x 12-minute builds plus a little extra at the end. Later a 40-minute gentle run. Also a PT appointment this morning with some dry needling, electricity, and a lot of sharp-elbow-massage into my hips! Now I’m heading off with my bike to my local triathlon store to get my bike fit friend to look at a few things before Saturday’s race. Whew! • Bike, swim, and strength for today 🤸🏻‍♀️ The day started with some early intervals on the bike and later I did my main swim workout for the week. This one was focused on breathwork and included a total of 40 x 50-yard hard efforts, most of them asking me to wait longer to take a breath than I’d really like to 🫢 Actually the 3-stroke breathing was much more comfortable than it used to be so that was an encouragement. But anything more than that… ☠️😅 Today was also nice and chatty at the pool; a few of the lifeguards whom I’ve gotten to know as well as some of the regulars stopped by to say hello. It was only after a few people started inquiring about my back that I realized one of the cups from yesterday’s cupping session at the PT must’ve been especially tight and left one mysterious circle in the middle of my back [pic included]. I got lots of questions about my upcoming races which was super kind of them, and two ladies asked me hopefully if you’re allowed to wear things like snorkels, fins, and paddles during a triathlon. They were hugely disappointed when I answered no. I’m going to try and talk them into doing a mini-sprint with me in August because I’m confident they’ll be fine without pool toys for a short swim! They don’t believe me yet but there’s time to convince them 😁 Now time for food!! This replicates a team time trial where there is a short high power effort on the front followed by a lower intensity sustained effort in the wheels before going hard again. • This is my best impression of a praying mantis [sadly there is no praying mantis emoji] - I’d give it a “Room for Improvement” 📝 Still working on earning my spot in the Early Risers Club with another pre-dawn bike workout 😂 Zwift behaved this time and I was able to get the main interval workout for the week done. Feeling big DOMS in the legs from yesterday‘s strength workout and this time the “warmup dreads” carried over into “workout dreads” lol. One of those workouts where part of me says “nope! I cannot do this! Not gonna be able to hold this for that long!” ☠️ That’s when the other part of me has to step in and say “you don’t know that, just stay with it a little longer, just see what you can do” That conversation played over in my head several times until I was counting down the minutes left ✅ It was goood!! • Bike, swim, and strength today! My plan was to wake up early and get my main / hardest bike interval workout for the week done. I was looking forward to getting it over with! 😂 But Zwift crashed on me five times in a row and after eating up almost 15-minutes of my time trying to make it work I accepted that the interval workout would have to wait. I pulled up a triathlon race I’d started watching yesterday and did a zone 2 spin for the rest of the time I had. Better than nothing! I really enjoyed the swim workout today! Effort-wise it felt pretty manageable and it had a lot of pull sets which I always like. Added in some sighting drills because race day is coming quickly! 🎉 Plus a little triathlon-specific strength work later in the day when I could squeeze it in. Today is test day 🚴 Hit the gym today for an FTP test, and wow, I’d forgotten the sheer intensity of it! 🚴 The FTP test is an ultimate showdown – just you vs you, just like an IRONMAN. Today was my first test since October, a significant milestone considering it was just months after my crash. And yes, the numbers are in – an improvement of 10 watts. It may not be a monumental leap, but progress is progress, and every watt counts. It’s these small victories that pushes me forward.
