We went to The Gentle Barn today to do “Cow Therapy” and it was very therapeutic. We heard all of their stories of how they were saved and all about their personalities. It breaks my heart we treat these animals so poorly to where they take on a bunch of trauma at a young age. The Gentle Barn takes such good care of these big cuddly babies to help them heal and get them to a point of peace and happiness. My beautiful friends Paulette @hearthandsdogs and @allisondunbar treated me to a once in a lifetime experience at @thegentlebarn . After meeting Lang and giving her a massage, Paulette fell in love with her and felt our bond. She is an incredibly gifted person and massage therapist for animals and works with these gorgeous animals who know what you need. I got to lay with them soon after they sadly lost their matriarch, Holy Cow. They were so selfless and giving, even in grief. Gentle Barn: King was rescued from wandering the desert with his sister, Duchess. With no food, water or shelter, they were desperate and exhausted. Concerned neighbors who had seen them out in the desert for months called us and asked us to save them. When we brought them home they were terrified of us at first, but soon learned to trust us and even ate out of our hands. They lived together in our barnyard in harmony for years, until Duchess passed away of old age. King depended on Duchess very much and she always took the lead. When she passed away King grew up almost overnight and became the King of the sheep and goats. He settles arguments between them, he gently bosses them around, and at night he stays up and watches over them so they can sleep safe. He loves eating bananas, horse cookies, and taking selfies. He has a smile on his face all the time, and makes adorable sounds when he thinks you have a treat. Six years ago today this gentle giant decided to be my friend. After being rescued from a slaughterhouse, after he himself busted through three gates there. I’ve never in my life felt such a magnetic pull to get to someone before. The second I found out that The Gentle Barn wanted to open a location in St. Louis, I did whatever I had to do to get there. I never could explain the why but it was just there. I am always grateful for this connection, a bond that I hold tightly to my heart.
