I took Damon's advice and kept my camera off for most of the show at #Coachella Weekend 2. didn't have the perfect angles/zoom anyway. so I just soaked it in and enjoyed with every ounce of enthusiasm I had in me. have since learned that I was coming down with a viral infection at the time and that explains why weekend 2 was one of the hardest journeys I've undertaken for Blur yet, but I wouldn't change a thing. 30 years ago today, Blur released their magnum opus Parklife. If Blur began to walk into the Britpop scene with Modern Life is Rubbish, then with Parklife they went full sprint into global stardom and critical acclaim! This album is one of, if not the defining Britpop album. Every track is unique and memorable. For the singles we have the disco infused Girls & Boys, Britpop anthem Parklife, the beautiful ballad To The End and the equally beautiful End of a Century. Beyond the singles, the album tracks don’t disappoint! Whether it’s the quirky London Loves, the melancholic Clover Over Dover, or some of my all time favorites Trouble in the Message Centre which showcases pop-rock at its finest, Badhead another memorizing melancholic song or the epic finale and top 3 blur song of mine This Is a Low, this album showcases all sides of Blur. The B-Sides delve deeper into the Britpop sound, with the thematic “Theme from an Imaginary Film” being a highlight. Most importantly, this album introduced me to Blur. 15 years ago in 2009, I first listened to 4 Blur songs with Girls & Boys and Parklife being among them. I was at a warehouse called “The Archive” in Lansdale when I discovered the cd. I bought it took it home and gave it a listen. Although it all didn’t click, it led me to buy Blurs best of collection and from there they became my favorite band and then came Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and the rest of the musical spectrum. America may not get it but the fact this album gave Blur the records the most wins in a single night at the 1995 Brit Awards (a record they held until this year) I’d say they don’t have to for this album and band to be appreciated.
