"République Tchèque" et "Goregrind" font souvent (très) bon ménage. Bien dommage que l'on ait propulsé les très mauvais Gutalax en figure de proue de la scène nationale, parce que les VRAIS bonnes formations ne manquent pas : Pathologist, Pigsty, Ahumado Granujo, Carnal Diafragma, Sick Sinus Syndrome... Et mes favoris, Jig-Ai. Alors oui, on perd quelques points de QI, c'est clair. Mais qu'ils sont forts, nom de Dieu. Une seule erreur de parcours (le très longuet "Rising Sun Carnage" de 2014) dans une discographie absolument exemplaire. Bientôt vingt ans d'activité pour le trio, vingt années passées à se vautrer, sourire aux lèvres, dans un mauvais goût revendiqué et assumé. Le cauchemar des weebs. "Fujiculate", "Boobzilla", "Geishas Sucks European Cocks" (sic), "Final Cu(n)t", "Bonsai Bukake" (re-sic), "Samurai Gay Party"... Je t'avais prévenu. Et je te vois sourire : l'écoute de cet "Entrails Tsunami", dernier album du groupe (sorti en 2019) te le fera avaler en même temps que tes dents. Le Goregrind pratiqué par Jig-Ai est à la hauteur de sa connerie. Absurde de violence, de lourdeur (tant dans l'exécution que la production), un implacable bulldozer servi par un batteur bandé H24 et une guitare accordée plus bas que terre. Un sommet de trisomie, 24 minutes de shokushu goukan dans chaque orifice, surtout les oreilles. J'ai coutume de dire que c'est un peu la pulsion fast-food qui prend comme une envie de pisser : on se tartine les artères de gras, on termine luisants, lascifs et satisfaits, et rendez-vous dans six mois. Rammstein - Reise, Reise [Neue Deutsche Härte] Hablar de Rammstein es hablar de la potencia musical alemana más exitosa de todos los tiempos. No es necesario que les hable sobre la banda; su extensa discografía, sus directos y sus infames polémicas a lo largo de su trayectoria hacen un poco innecesario que lo haga. Para 2004, Rammstein venía de cosechar un puñado más que interesante de éxitos y una fama internacional que pilló a todos por sorpresa. Con "Mutter" como la cúspide creativa del conjunto, las expectativas estaban por las nubes. Fue casi natural sentirse un poco decepcionado con este nuevo material. Puedo decir sin temor a equivocarme que ninguna canción está al nivel de su anterior trabajo, a pesar de contar con auténticos clásicos y con algunos de los momentos más violentos de la banda. A grandes rasgos, siento que muchas de las pistas quedan a mitad de camino. Canciones como "Dalai Lama" o "Los" muestran el interés por salir de la zona de confort sin embargo carecen de un buen desarrollo o se mantienen planos a lo largo de la injustificada duración de ambas. La inclusión de las empalagosa e infames "Amerika" y "Moskau" no mejoran el panorama cayendo presas de sus infantiles leitmotiv. Recuerdo con mucho cariño a "Reise, Reise". Fué un disco que escuché hasta el hartazgo en mi adolescencia, pero el paso del tiempo no hizo más que revelar la dolorosa e inevitable realidad de la banda. During the musicians’ strike of 1948, the Maddox Brothers & Rose continued making radio transcription recordings at the Radio Recorders Studio on Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, California. Don Pierce and the 4 Star record label somewhat ignored the recording ban anyway, as did many indie labels in 1948. “Gosh I Miss You All the Time” was recorded in August 1948 and issued as a 4 Star b-side the same month. The session featured Rose with Maddox Brothers Cal, Henry, Cliff, Fred, and Don, along with Gene LeMasters on lead guitar and Bud Duncan on steel. The track was also included on this budget label Hilltop LP release in 1964 called “Maddox Bros. & Rose Go Honky Tonkin’!” Fred Maddox was slappin’ that upright string bass as early as 1937 in live performances, more than a decade before that technique became an entrenched element of early rock and rockabilly.

VINYL 299. Bloc Party - Silent Alarm 2005 Out of nowhere this became a bit of a special one. A chance airing in the car revealed that it’s one of the few albums my wife and I both love, so we decided we needed it on vinyl. She was also recently vindicated in her stubborn belief that she used to have a weird version of the album with a bonus track after the end, something the internet wouldn’t confirm, when she found her original. Fun times in this household, let me tell you. Great album anyway, the sound of a good, interesting young band playing exciting indie with a distinctive sound. Great songs throughout. Swipe left for 3 clips! After MGM acquired many of Arthur ‘Guitar Boogie’ Smith’s 1947-1949 radio transcription recordings, they began issuing singles on the MGM label in 1948. Most of the records included one of Smith’s virtuoso guitar, banjo, or mandolin instrumentals as the promoted a-side, but the b-side frequently included his popular on-air hillbilly novelties. Occasionally the b-side would get more airplay and become a minor hit, as in late 1950 when a b-side called “Conversation With a Mule” was more popular than the mandolin boogie piece on the a-side. “I’m Only Telling You (What They Told Me)” was recorded in mid-1948 at WBT in Charlotte, then bought by MGM and issued as a b-side in January 1950. Like his other popular radio novelties, Smith talk-sings his way through several nonsensical tales in his trademark hillbilly drawl. In response to popular demand, MGM combined many of the 1947-49 radio novelties onto this 10-inch LP in 1954 called “Foolish Things.” Smith’s radio band included string bassist Tommy Faile, and Smith’s brothers Sonny and Ralph, who like Arthur were competent on several instruments.

Music for Pleasure was produced by Nick Mason of Pink Floyd. The Damned originally sought out former Pink Floyd member Syd Barrett, but were unsuccessful due to his reclusive lifestyle. In a brief interview for the documentary The Damned: Don’t You Wish That We Were Dead (2015), Mason reported the band were accustomed to a much faster recording schedule than he was familiar with from Pink Floyd.
