We had some flooding under the house and now my eyes are leaking too! A bunch of things got soaked, not all salvageable, but fortunately nothing crucial lost. Kiara’s memories were saved and though all her old onesies were drenched, they were easily wrung out and dried so I can still hopefully have a quilt made out of them so she is always with me. Taking them out of the dryer hit me hard though. The ones stained from constant use, the precious little socks to protect her feet, the one with the sunshine song I always sang to her and some that were new and she never had the chance to wear. After the first few days of jet-lag and working our asses off cleaning the house all day - we went to dinner in the neighborhood before collapsing from exhaustion. 📚 Just wrapped up “Black Cake” by Charmaine Wilkerson @charmspen1 and it’s left me feeling all kinds of emotions! This book beautifully explores the intricate dynamics of family, highlighting that while family can seem simple, it’s often incredibly complex. Generational issues are real, secrets exist and many many people are living out these complexities. One thing that really struck me is the reminder that time is not limitless. We have to seize the moment to love, to accept, to forgive, to reconnect, and to spend time together while we can. Your family is a gift. The author did an incredible job building and concluding the characters’ stories, and I ended the book with happy tears. I’m so glad Covey’s story didn’t end in tragedy. I rated the book 9/10 and highly recommend it. Next stop - Watching the Mini Series. P.S. Tonight I sit quietly upstairs in between shows with a heart full of gratitude. I feel so blessed for so many reasons. Firstly, being honoured to be the opening production for the Loading Dock Theatre in this beautiful, important and brave space and all of the heroes who are honoured here, the people who’s lives were lost, many far too young and remembering my friends. I also feel blessed to be among such amazing people here now - the incredible team at Qtopia - Greg, Carly and Rosie plus all the incredible volunteers also all the beautiful, passionate amazing creatives who have given everything to this production. Michelle, Tom, Madelyne, Molly, Bernadette, Felix, Sam, Wendi, JM, Adam and Chantal. I am so glad they have been seen, got great reviews and have forged new friendships and also great contacts in Sydney. Thank you to Bojan for capturing our production so beautifully. This was a tough journey for me, I’ve learned so many lessons and travelled the bumpy emotional rollercoaster of it all. I too am grateful that I have had this opportunity to play such an incredible character created by the wonderful playwright, Michale Gow, caught up with so many cherished friends, met new ones :) and been back on a Sydney stage. Thank you to everyone who has helped this come together, who has made sure that it was a success. Thank you our audiences, reviewers and industry friends.
