Oceans 11, 12 and 13 4k steelbooks added to collection. Finally got me some 4k Oceans goodness and Steelsbooks too. I don't personally love the designs, I didn't when they got announced. But I don't hate them. They are just fine. Most seem to agree some bossing would have helped but at least they glossy. This week we decided to dream of warm weather and beaches, it's not quite summer but we're ready for it anyway. We watched the original Point Break from 1991 starring Keanu Reeves, doing some gunwork pre-John Wick, and Patrick Swayze after he learned how to do those big kicks on Roadhouse. The movie has surfing, bank robbing, even a gnarly looking Anthony Kiedis and plenty of warm summer vibes. Our drink of choice for this week was Big Wave by Kona Brewing Company, a delicious golden ale. I don't know if this is what the surfers in Hawaii like to drink or not, but I definitely see myself cooling off with a few of these during the hot Kentucky summer in a couple of months. Denn die Story hat nicht nur Action und Abenteuer sondern irgendwie auch Mission Impossible Vibes versprüht. Rosalyn Quest (Himmel, der Nachname war erstmal irritierend) ist eine unglaublich talentierte, junge Diebin. Aber was soll man auch anderes erwarten, wenn sie Teil der wohl bekanntesten Diebesfamilie der Welt ist. Trotzdem fühlt sie sich alleine und würde gerne mal was anderes machen. Ihr Plan zum Ausstieg scheint perfekt, doch dann wird ihre Mom entführt und Ross muss am Thieves Gambit teilnehmen, um sie zu befreien. Die Autorin hat mich in der Leseprobe mit ihrem Schreibstil aber auch dem Gefühl von Action Film total locken können und der locker, flüssige Stil lässt sich auch einfach schön lesen. Nach den ersten actionreicheren Kapiteln wird das Buch allerdings erstmal ruhiger und die Story plätschert etwas vor sich hin. Trotzdem kann man die Heists super verfolgen und auch die Zuordnung der anderen Gambit Teilnehmer klappt leichter als gedacht (es gibt nämlich leider keine Charakter Art, die bei der Zuordnung der Merkmale helfen könnte). Durch die kleinen Eigenarten der Charaktere und teilweise witzige Twists kommt man aber wirklich gut rein, fragt sich aber durchgehend, wem man hier wirklich vertrauen kann und wer ein böses Spiel mit Ross spielt. Im letzten Drittel hat das Buch dann zum Glück nochmal richtig Geschwindigkeit aufgenommen und es wurde super spannend. Auch, wenn das Buch sich im Mittelteil etwas gezogen hat war es doch eine schöne und man etwas andere Geschichte, die ich wahrscheinlichaber nicht weiterverfolgen werde. The book revolves around vampires, heists, politics and with some sprinkle of romance. I have seen a lot of people relating it with six of Crows but there are not many similarities in both books apart from a group of criminals joining hands with their own reason to go for an impossible heist. The plot was unique with vampires and the world building but the writing doesn't really give much life to it. My biggest eek in this book was its writing style. The scenes that should be fast paced were slow and vice versa. The whole book was supposed to be around a heist which ended up like getting a cotton candy. I was disappointed how easily everything was ~ so direct and so predictable. There wasn't much element of surprise, thrill and twist I was ultimately expecting. I enjoyed the last act but the rest of the book was all about dragging unnecessary stuff (things weren't connecting nor making sense).
