A fan from the start as I said I was nodding along when you spoke about the agony uncle years. I used to read them and have read every book since. It's hard to choose a favourite book but I do love a song of me and you. My regret at having given all my older copies away as I had nowhere to store them in our previous homes is on the path to being rectified. So yesterday was a lot of fun. I went to my first ever real life book club! Done a few virtual ones through covid but never an in person one. I really enjoyed it. Was very lucky my first one had the author attending too. April's book was the antique hunters guide to murder by @clmillerwriter . What a debut book. This was right up my street and luckily finished in time for group. Throughly enjoyed it. Cara was also kind enough to dedicate my book too. This was very exciting actually getting to meet an author too. Looking for a good book for Earth Day? Do you enjoy reading about history, nature and science? If so, this book is for you! You may be asking, what do beavers have to do with Sutter’s Fort? One part of history that students often learn through educational programs at Sutter’s Fort is the impact of the fur trade in California. For decades Sutter’s Fort even had a Trapper’s Camp program specifically focused on this part of California history. During the fur trade, ships from Spain, England, Russia and the United States visited California to trade for mammal pelts (sea otters, seals and beaver) with Native Californians. Sea otters and seals were the primary target, but beaver pelts were desirable too. The Hudson’s Bay Company took 4,000 beaver skins from San Francisco Bay in just one year! By the 1840s the beaver population had been decimated. In this book, Environmental Journalist Ben Goldfarb explains this history in more detail and shares how beavers can help us fight drought, flooding, wildfire, extinction, and the ravages of climate change.
