Until you've had multiple views it's hard to really put into perspective how different and refreshing this movie is in the comedy genre, low on words, high on mood it makes you fall in love with its cast of quirky misfit characters eventually building to a fairly wild and unexpected ending! "Big Night On the Big Screen" I and a close friend headed down to Ann Arbor to a place my Pops and I spent oh so much time together, The Michigan Theatre He and I spent so much time in our church, a theatre, and shared experiences and moments that are floating on in the ether and happening in parallel universes as we speak It was the 3rd time, and 2nd movie, I was in that space without him It's not any easier My friend and I saw an Indie gem, Big Night, that my Pops and I seen many years ago We came in as the host was finishing introducing the film and I tried to find a seat soon, but ended up sitting behind two big heads and I was antsy and uncomfortable from the get go Right before the film started I leaned over and asked my friend if we could move closer We slouched down and moved closer as I dropped all of my napkins on the floor We settled in I used to be so comfortable in a theatre, especially this space My Pops and I making the best out of our situation having to be in Ann Arbor for his treatments Seeing Big Night on the big screen and all the classic cars passing frame to frame, in this story set in the '50's, only reminded me of my Pops and his uncanny ability to know each and every car and year and model attached with stories I teared up, but it doesn't take much The movie ends with a beautiful non dialogue scene that is so beautiful between these two brothers that love each other endlessly, but are beyond stressed and on edge and taking it out on each other It made me feel so alone and think of my Pops and I and how we are that (I still can't say "were") I wiped tears away on my sleeve and took a photo of the inside of the theatre of my friend wishing my Pops was there with us As we walked out I stopped and picked up the napkins I had dropped earlier Napkins I needed moments earlier for river tears that just won't stop. #McCallumPhoto #Photography #Photographer #MichiganTheatre #AnnArbor #WilliamCMcCallum #BigNight #IndieGem #blackandwhite

Throughout the film, the dialog she has with Gore makes us question what is true and what’s not, what is really happening and what’s not. Gore is a brute compared to Diane’s hyper liberal (and quite Millennial) stance on life and war. But there are times when we shove off what Diane is saying in favor of something crazy coming out of Gore’s mouth… And then a zombie jumps out. Of course, with with apocalypse come corpses. While Gore and Diane are figuring out life as the last humans, their minds are jumbled around with hallucinations galore. A surprisingly gleeful string arrangement accompanies scenes where humans-turned-monstrosities melt into themselves, shape-shift, and eat rats, bringing the audience into their world of insanity. Their collective expertise provides an extra sense of perspective, talent and inspiration to their unique, electronic fusion, with a real intuitive flair, lush soundscapes and a sense of calm binds together magical ideas woven seamlessly together. Starting with a dissonant low filtered intro, the percussion sets in quickly with the flute like synth creating airiness and a sense of tension - the vocals kick in after a moment with plenty of reveerb, plucks placed intricately - making you sink in the melodious arrangement, spiraling slowly into an abyss of artistic imagination and unbound character of lush textures, very smart use of subtle off key synth notes,the shuffling hihats immersive - majestic and prolific use of subtle elements. The drop is mind blowing and just mesmerizes you in the most binding way, like freezing time itself, making you gawk in limbo and flow along the lush waves of harmonics - the swirling sitar like detuned twangs, the snares pitched down, the brass stabs deep and rumbling - brimming with intricate details- only to be noticed with a good pair of headphones. The second half propels the track into a forward aggressive post rock offseting to the first part with the electric guitar riffs done subtly creating harshness and contrasting character to the smooth gentle first half tonality - the vocal styles reminding one of Radiohead, with distortion to the vocals and wide sounding snares. This track is simply put a spectacular amalgamation of post rock and indie - magically woven together with intricate elements delicately balanced and cohesive. I kinda knew it was for me. However, while VA11 Hall-A let you actively mix drinks and directly influence the story, Necrobarista is a visual novel. It has some interactivity, where you get to walk around the coffeeshop, but the story will always be the same. A Short Hike for the Nintendo Switch. While I missed out on the original hype train for A Short Hike when it was first released, I would've totally been swept up by it. It just feels like one of those games that I'd love. The game has you exploring a small island, where you can basically decide if you want to follow the path or explore on your own. It's extremely laid back, and the music is outstandingly chill! 👌 The graphics remind me a lot of 3DS games, and not only by the stylistic resolution, but also the way everything moves and looks. It's weird to already get nostalgic for the 3DS, but thats where we're at!
