#spacetruckers oder Stuart Gordons missglückte Eintrittskarte in den Mainstream. Der Erfolg des Vorgängers Fortress - Die Festung sorgte dafür, dass Gordon diesen 25 Millionen Dollar teuren Film machen konnte. Besetzt mit einem erstaunlich gut aufgelegten #dennishopper , einem jungen #stephendorff und der hübschen #debimazar (und durchaus prominenten Nebenrollen, wie z.B. #georgewendt ), erzählt der Film eine Geschichte über Lastwagenfahrer im All, die eine äußerst gefährliche Fracht an Bord nehmen. Im Gegensatz zu seinen früheren Filmen (die eher für schwarzen Humor bekannt sind) tat er dies mit grellen Farben und grellem Humor. Der Humor vertrug sich aber auch nicht wirklich mit den immer erkennbaren Grindhouse- und Sleaze-Ansätzen. Manche der Effekte sind erstaunlich gut (vor allem die praktischen Effekte), aber viele leider gar nicht. Erschreckend schwaches und hässliches CGI lässt den Film unnötig trashig aussehen. Space Truckers ist schwer unterhaltsam, hat richtig coole Elemente (die Kampfdroiden sind wirklich scary), ist aber ein Film der Kategorie: „grandios gescheitert“. Civil War… 2024; UK Cinemas - 1 hr 54mins - 7/10 ⭐️ This for me was fine, but just fine. I don’t really think I was the target audience, and as I know very little about American politics or the way of life over there, I couldn’t really relate to this story all that much, or find it to be a believable possibility. Straight off the bat when I heard Texas and California were teaming up, even I thought “yeah right that would never happen” 😅 Starting with positives though; the visuals in this were excellent, and the soundtrack was a really good mix that fit scene by scene perfectly. There was a lot of food for thought here, and some scenes that made you feel really uncomfortable, and also saddened by the situations unfolding in front of you. That being said, this just didn’t hit the spot for me. Like I said before, maybe because I can’t resonate with this story as I’m not an American is the reason as to why I didn’t like it? I’m not sure, but for me it was just 2 hours of watching journalists take pictures of different types of people with guns in their hands, some fighting, with the ending just being very underwhelming and anti climatic. I looked at my watch 4 times in the last hour, it felt a little slow, samey and boring. The plot just didn’t seem to go anywhere 🤷🏼♀️ I also don’t remember Kirstin Dunst being a bad actress, but man was she terrible in this. No soul behind the eyes, wooden performance, maybe she’s a little out the game or something but I found her acting really weak compared to the other main characters, considering she’s the one with the most experience. The other 3 however were really great and gave so much emotion to their scenes. Overall I’d say I’m in the minority of people who thought this was just OK, it’s getting a lot of praise and if you liked the look of it from the trailer then definitely go and see it for yourself, and let me know what you thought once you’ve seen it! {2024} #rebelmoonparttwothescargiver is directed by #zacksnyder and stars #sofiaboutella as Kora, who along with the surviving warriors must prepare to defend their new home of Veldt alongside the it's people against the Realm. As someone who didn't completely hate the previous part as A LOT of people did, I still had some anticipation for this second part. And it didn't disappoint me nor did it exceed any expectations.🤷 Both parts are on the same scale of entertainment, both have some good qualities about them while having QUITE a few issues aswell. But I would probably put 'Part Two' above 'Part One' just based on the better action this film has. Snyder's visuals are still a strong point, but his writing and storytelling is not. Sofia Boutella, #djimonhounsou & #edskrein all put in respectable performances given what they had to work with. I have seen countless takes on how Civil War is a critique of American society, a movie on a dystopian future or a drama on the division in the USA. All of those, are wrong interpretations. Garland himself said that he could have set this film anywhere in the world and that it is about ideological division everywhere. Civil War has nothing to do with America and is not at all a Civil War movie as many claim it to be. It is a movie about the horrors, mercilessness and cruelty of war, through the lens of journalism. And it does this amazingly well. The characters and the entire plot of the film are incredibly well-written. Despite little exposition, the characters feel familiar to the viewer and arc decently all while serving evident roles. The great writing is only elevated by the beautiful cinematography and hard-hitting editing which makes for a truly impactful watching experience. Among all these great elements, however, Alex Garland’s direction stands out. I mean wow, I'm not a huge fan of his previous work but this movie made me genuinely upset he was retiring from filmmaking. What a direction and what a movie. I really think this will rise to be a much-acclaimed classic in the years to come and will certainly be a film I will recommend to many people. Now Watching: Dune Part Two Before you ask, yes I did have to rewatch Part One to refresh my memory. I enjoyed Part 2 more than Part 1. Is it a perfect film? No. But it’s an enjoyable, more complex, sci-fi fantasy film. It’s like if Lord of the Rings & Star Wars had a baby. Visually it has some stunning moments, but then there was also moment during the fight at the end that looked straight out of a 2000’s video game. 3.5/5. Bonus Points: There’s always bonus points for anything with Josh Brolin. But the main lot of bonus points go to this film unlocking a childhood memory of being looked after by my Aunt & her watching the tv series version. Role Play stars Kayley Couco, David Oyelowo, Bill Nighy and Connie Nielson. It treads an all too familiar path of a loving couple where one is leading a double life, in this case as a hired killer. The name Role Play and it's blurp on Prime Video are a little misleading in my opinion. It starts off with Emma (Couco) and Dave (Oyelowo) trying a bit of role playing to spice up their wedding anniversary, but Emma is recognised by fellow assassin Bob (Bill Nighy) from here I expected a light hearted, fast paced comedy along the lines of a mixture between True Lies and Date Night. This is not the case. The film is slow and meandering with little action and less comedy. Whenever this tries to be funny it fails and Couco is not believable in an action role. She appears uncomfortable in her set pieces which are either short, or intercut with other scenes. Oyelowo is charming as the husband oblivious to his wife's actual job, but his character is a little too forgiving for me. He loves and trusts his wife throughout, his character has no arc. While it is a cliché he needs to lose confidence in her and she should need to do something to regain his trust. I did not enjoy this film, it has few redeeming qualities. But, that maybe because I was expecting, a light hearted action comedy, and was presented with something entirely more serious. If you go in expecting to be a little bored, you won't be disappointed.
