I got these 10 frame boards from Target and I think my mom got us the giant sheet protector things.😂 We used flash cards & counting bears to do some math. I drew random cards 0-10 to create the equations. She used the 10 frame blocks below and her counting bears to create the physical equation. Not only did she have to identify & count out the 2 numbers for the equation, but then their total number for the sum, which was sometimes more than 10! Obviously this isn’t part of curriculum. It’s not our TGTB math. But we’re really focusing on foundations and basics, in all different ways. So often we hope for “open and go” curriculum. The truth is, for littles, that doesn’t always work- at least not in the immediate. Sometimes you have to get creative outside of the open and go. Be flexible. Use Pinterest. Don’t be afraid to be silly. Being a homeschooler, we can do that! Ett annat skäl till att jag behöver röra mig kanske inte alla kan relatera till, det pratas inte så mycket om sånt. Jag har kinestetisk inlärning, jag lär mig genom att göra saker och framför allt genom rörelse. Rörelser av alla sorter hjälper mig att integrera, visualisera, komma ihåg och förstå saker. Det kan vara så enkelt som att lära sig en text utantill då hjälper rörelser och rytm mig att komma ihåg den. Det kan vara att jag försöker förstå stora begrepp som frihet, frid, kärlek, förlåtelse, styrka, eller yogiska koncept som karma, samskara, koshas, sinnet, högre själv, medvetande. Rörelser ger mig symboler och talar till mig på en djup nivå. Det fungerar med all sorts rörelse; simning, springa, dansa, styrketräning, rehabövningar, och yoga. Det är därför jag är så dedikerad att lära mig alla yogapositioner som jag kan, jag tror att varje position låser upp ett budskap från kroppen. Det kan vara enkla men viktiga påminnelser som att inte sträcka sig för långt, släppa taget eller rotas, hur man egentligen hittar balans i livet. Men det kan också låsa upp saker som behöver komma till ytan och helas, läkas eller försonas. De här långsamma rörelserna kan jag repetera hur länge som helst och komma lite djupare in i mina lager varje gång. Många av yogapositionerna kom till genom att yogis studerade djurs mönster och försökte hitta in till de mönstren och kvaliteerna rörelserna uttrycker. Och upptäckte att olika rörelser gav olika sinnestillstånd och energi i kroppen (mer om det nästa gång!).

There are so many creative ways to introduce reading and writing to keep it fun and engaging! Here are a few of my favorites methods for letter recognition and building pre-writing skills. ✂️Build it! Try playdough, twigs or flower petals- anything goes! 👉🏻Trace it! Try drawing on a chalkboard and have your child use a paintbrush dipped in water to erase, use a salt tray, or use a stick to “trace” a letter or word in a pond and have your child guess what you wrote. Or use a flashlight in a dark room to trace the letter out with the light. 💃🏼 Dance it. Try bending and moving your body to make the letter. You’ll inevitably end up laughing but it will be memorable for sure! 😜 What are some of your favorite methods you’ve tried?

Figuring out how your child learns best is key. What might work for one kid might not work for yours and that is okay! My child is a Kinesthetic & Visual learner. We practice skills hand on, many many many times before she shows she has mastered the skill on paper. This means we have tons of manipulatives and use tons of dry erase markers with clear pockets. A Kinesthetic approach to learning is where a student carries out physical activities rather than listening to a lecture, this is also the most popular with kids - 'doing' helps them to gain a better understanding of the material. Cartilage at the front (pubic symphesis ) and the SI (sacroiliac) joints where the hip bones and sacrum meet. What kind of learner are you? See if you can pay attention to what may be happening in the pelvis when transfer your weight from one leg to the other.
