The smallest house in Great Britain! I saw this red house in the distance whilst walking the town walls. Utterly fascinated with something that didn’t fit in, off we went for a closer look. Turns out the smallest house in Great Britain! £3.50 for me and the kids to take a look. So got the tickets and in we went. Short cd audio played whilst you experience the house and imagining people actually living in there! The lady hosting wash very kind to take pictures of ticket holders whilst you waited for previous visitors to leave. I really do love to try and experience as much as I can, no matter how big or small. Stepping into history beyond the classroom walls — that’s where real learning begins. In December, I took my son away to Cyprus, a decision that unfolded into an adventure of a lifetime. He didn’t just see history; he felt it. Immersed in Cypriot culture, he tried new flavours, heard ancient myths, and even picked up a few Greek words and phrases. The true power of experiential learning are these moments outside of the classroom when we truly see our children grow and learn. Travelling opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for learning. In Cyprus, we witnessed history come alive as we visited the Medeival Fort, Paphos Castle (picture of my son here), explored archaeological sites and visited museums filled with artefacts from thousands of years ago, learning far more than any textbook could offer. In a world where perfect attendance is prized but real-life experiences are priceless, it’s time we reevaluate what truly counts. It’s a disservice to fine families for choosing to broaden their children’s horizons. There needs to be a balance, and within reason, families should be allowed to travel when they can afford to. By the time my son turns 16, I want him to look back not just on years spent within school walls but on a childhood full of the vibrant colours of the world—a true education. For many families, the only option is to take their children on holiday during term time due to high prices during the holidays. Second day in north wales, we had a lay in and got ourselves sorted for the day. After breakfast we made our way for the first stop of the day, Conwy. We parked up and I accidentally paid twice for parking as the app was playing up and the pay machine wasn’t working properly either. But never mind. We set off to walk the town walls! This is free to access and walk along. It’s nowhere near as big as say York city walls, but you could jump on and off just the same here. The kids enjoyed walking along and looking at the views! Ever since Jay joined my blogging business, we've made sure that at least once a week we take a day off to explore together whilst the kids are at school. So we've replaced our Peak District walks with exploring Penang 🇲🇾, and today we visited the beautiful Kok Lek Si Temple. Visiting temples WITHOUT the kids is a totally different ball game isn't it? 🤣 We spent a good couple of hours wandering around here... no way the boys would have allowed us to spend this long at a temple 😆. 📍 Hotel Adeline We loved our stay at @hoteladeline while in Scottsdale. Darling rooms with cool retro detailing, fun murals and photo ops throughout the property, a gorgeous pool + outdoor bar and yummy restaurant right off the lobby. We may have had the only kids in the entire pool on the Friday we were there, but our kids didn’t seem to notice and we still had a blast. We would definitely stay there again! Ah, Riga! Our final destination on this three-city adventure and it didn't disappoint. The Old Town is charming (of course) but the immediate "new town" is full of art nouveau buildings that are just beautiful. We loved this city! Getting here: From Tallinn to Riga we took a LuxExpress coach. Total price one way for our family of four: 46€. The reclining seats, great leg space with foot rests, and a screen with access to over 200 movies, made this 4.5 hour drive fly by. It was one of the best travel days ever! A day in Riga: In the morning, we took a brilliant Free Walking Tour with Rita where we learned the history of Riga, and oriented ourselves in the Old Town. Rita was super personable, shared fascinating stories, and really engaged our children, who both said this was one of the highlights of our trip. You tip at the end what you think the two hour tour is worth. In the afternoon, we walked through Bastejkalna Park and Esplanade, rode scooters to marvel at the Art Nouveau District, shopped, and caught an English-speaking movie because our hotel was opposite the cinema and why not? Eating Out: Street Fries Kitchen: we loved this spot for fish and chips and pancakes! They have a good range of options on their menu. Lido: a Latvian food canteen with locations across Riga. Everything is in Latvian, so don't be shy about using Google translate. A fun place for authentic local food. Čili Pizza - recently opened, very extensive menu, offering more than its generously sized pizza. Can recommend the mac & cheese and Tex-Mex potatoes. Great value and they recommend you download their discount card for a further 20% off the already generous price! As with Helsinki and Tallinn previously, I could have done with one more day in Riga, not to be ungrateful! There were a couple more museums I would have been interested in and I loved just walking around, taking in the architecture, cobblestone streets and green space. Just wrapping up our little wander around Betws-y-coed with a little walk following the red route along Coed Tan Dinas Trail. Such an easy little walk and perfect for those who don’t fancy too much walking or a more gentle walk. It’s very short as well. our first stop in north wales! Betws-y-coed. I’ve always been in love with wales, but I’ve only done a week in North wales back in 2019. And it has been one of my favourite family holidays, even if being in October when we went. So to go back, was just pure joy. So onto this first stop. Parked up in the village car park and paid for the first lot of plenty of parking costs over the next few days. Made our way over to the train station and over the bridge. We found ourselves at sappers suspension bridge, which sadly is now closed off to the public, due the what I can see lack of maintenance and fallen into disrepair. The church next door, st Michaels old church the original church for the village. It was initially closed when we were taking a look at the outer building, but by utter luck a lovely key holder volunteer came by and let us have a quick peek inside! Heading back over the bridge into the village and out of no where (but never unusual up here inc. 21 years ago, we combined our love for travel and each other and had a destination wedding (long before it was a popular thing to do) on Koh Samui, Thailand after three weeks of travelling around the country. We booked everything ourselves with the fledgling internet and put our faith in a wedding planner called Doris from the other side of the world. Exploring new destinations together was our passion and we continued with our adventures throughout career changes, business start-ups and parenthood. Travel is our “thing” and we’ve since met many others who share our obsession. And what a great community that is! Attingham Park! A new national trust for us. And I picked this one as a half way stopping point whilst on our way up to North Wales in the Easter half term! So I have a lot of things to show you. And I’m very excited for that. It’s been one of the best mini breaks this year so far 😉 Anyway, let’s focus on this first stop! Easter trails were still on so we did this around the property. We went inside the house, and wow. What a stunning house. and the main hall was like being in an art gallery. We made our way down to the kitchen where they had volunteers actually cooking traditionally - methods and recipe for Welsh cakes, and we got to try some freshly backed warm Welsh cakes!
