When photographing coastal scenes such as this I usually have a very clear idea in my mind of how I want the water and waves to look; whether the scene needs an incoming or outgoing wave, how far into the frame it needs to come, the shapes I'd like. This was exactly the case here, and I knew instantly the moment I had the shot I wanted. So much so that I confidently picked up the tripod and walked away from the scene once I thought I'd gotten what I wanted without even checking the back of the camera. Now I hasten to add that really you should always check the back of camera just to make sure there were no silly mistakes like water on the lens but I was in a rush home.
