On Monday we went to Stornoway to chat to Iain and Ali about fabricating our staircase (which will be made out of steel) and they’ll be here this coming Monday to take measurements for the staircase. So today, Andrew built this platform/base for the staircase so the correct measurements can be taken. This base will be hidden under the floor tiling. I started cleaning the floor of the house. We are delighted to be included in the shortlist for this years AJ Small Projects Award! Caochan is a project close to our hearts as it’s our own home, designed by us and built by our own hands. The build process included many highs and lows but it’s one of the most fulfilling things we’ve ever done and would like to inspire others looking to take the same path. . The Whalebone Box ... is a 2019 film produced and directed by Andrew Kötting. A whalebone box found washed up on the shore. It was given to Iain Sinclair, Kötting’s walking companion on his latest jaunt themed film. They set out on an expedition to take this box to its place of origin, a beach on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides. Artist Eden Kötting helps shape the film, and in many ways it’s an ode to her indomitable spirit. Once touched the box can change lives. It was always intended to be an active thing, kill or cure. Three men undertake a journey to return a box made of whalebone to the place where the whale was beached. The cladding is FINALLY finished on the cube 🙌🙌 on Friday - in the sunshine ☀️- we started putting up the batons which the cladding is attached to. We started putting up the cladding on Saturday morning - there are 3 time lapse videos putting up the cladding together & the 4th is Andrew ‘flying solo’ cladding a narrower section. I was inside making a moussaka and cheesecakes for Sunday’s lunch from 5ish. Andrew stopped at 8. We finished off the last section this evening 🙌 there’s still the roof trim to put up.
