Three variations of this silver birch tree. It sits on the road to Elgol between Loch Cill Chriosd and Loch Slapin. 🤎 I always love when red deer come into the croft - last night there wasn’t a breathe of wind and everything was so still. I’ve felt stuck and frustrated with my work at times recently and like things I’ve been making just haven’t been working out as I’d envisaged. I nearly didn’t take my sketchbook with me on this trip as I felt sick of the sight of it to be honest. But I did take it, “just incase” I started to feel differently. And I swam and cooked and wrote and pressed flowers and listened to bird song and walked in sacred places and I felt like I couldn’t not draw - the impulse came back to me in part. I didn’t feel like I “had” to draw for work or portfolio prep or anything else - I felt truly that I wanted to draw because I felt inspired. I’m a big believer in the idea of breakdowns sometimes actually being break throughs. Not in all instances of course. But at times, descents can be as helpful in the long term as ascents, even if the world tells us to focus on increasing, perfecting and aspiring.
