Rosary High School’s Alumnae Association sponsored its annual "Cozy Christmas" drive to collect warm winter items for the Dominican Literacy Center in Aurora. Items collected included hats, gloves, scarves, slippers, socks, coats, boots and blankets. The Center, like Rosary High School, is sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois. The Center’s mission is to help women learn to read, write and speak English within an atmosphere of mutual respect and dignity. Donations came in from alumnae, Rosary's Knitting & Crocheting Club, and basketball fans attending the January 17 Royals game vs. Aurora Central Catholic and the grade school Queens of the Court Tournament. For the third year, we offered an amazon.com wish list so alumnae across the country could donate. Volunteers needed! Crayons for Kids is an annual school supply drive conducted in conjunction with Marmion Academy. Each summer, Marmion and Rosary students work at local Jewel-Osco stores to collect school supply donations from customers. All donations are immediately boxed and delivered to over 75 in-need schools and organizations throughout the Fox Valley. "Before I was a civil rights leader, I was a preacher of the gospel. This was my first calling and it still remains my greatest commitment." --Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I've noticed often that when kids are taught about MLK, his "Reverend" title rarely appears with his "Dr." title, even though he preached his last sermon just a few days before he was assassinated. He was God's man doing God's work, which is to "learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause." (Isaiah 1:17) It's important to us that our kids understand that MLK was just a man living out his faith, and that we as believers should be the biggest advocates for the oppressed, the loudest fighters for justice, the first to know a person's inherent worth and value and humanity, no matter what color their skin is. John Stott wrote, “Both the dignity and the equality of human beings are traced in Scripture to our creation.” (Plainly: to view one's own race or ethnicity as superior to another is a denial of the fact that ALL people are created in the image of God.) Paul writes in Romans (2:10-11) that “glory and honor and inner peace [will be given] to everyone who habitually does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For God shows no partiality [no arbitrary favoritism; with Him one person is not more important than another].” And 1 John 3:17-18 says “But whoever has the world’s goods (adequate resources), and sees his brother in need, but has no compassion for him, how does the love of God live in him? Little children (believers, dear ones), let us not love [merely in theory] with word or with tongue [giving lip service to compassion], but in action and in truth [in practice and in sincerity, because practical acts of love are more than words].” Let's not be hearers of the Word only, but DO-ERS. We are the change agents, the ones whose lives are a testament to our beliefs. Let's keep showing up and showing the world that even if we don't have all the right answers, we can be an answer to a need made known. And all those small answers will add up to big changes, if we keep doing what is right in God's eyes ✊🏿✊🏻✊🏽✊🏼

Royals Taking Care of Our First Responders: The Scheel family has been doing several projects during this time to serve the community. Gretchen (Feuerborn ‘93) Scheel and her daughters Miranda (‘20) and Evelyn (‘22) have made more than 80 cloth masks for area seniors, the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa (a family member is a sister there), and the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry. Evelyn and her mother have been making crochet mask extenders to give health care workers’ ears a break. Gretchen does the crocheting and Evelyn sews on the buttons while they listen to church services on Sunday mornings. They've made more than 50 so far, and just dropped off a set for Rosary teacher Mr. Carlo Losurdo’s wife to share with the other nurses and doctors in the ER. In addition, the Troccio family (‘21) and Gretchen’s mother Leanne Feuerborn donated all the buttons for the mask extenders. “It really takes a village!” Gretchen said. #preachwithyourlife #rosaryathome #ageofcorona

THIS is the season where you are going to have to TRUST GOD MORE THAN BEFORE. Learning to Trust in the Lord with ALL MY HEART, has been one of the greatest lessons the Holy Spirit has taught me and many time put me in remembrance of. "Your provision is always in your right position" God never follows us, we must follow Him in order to walk in peace, victory and pro-vision. Acknowledging this truth daily helps me not stress about doing kingdom business. If He wants me to do it today, He'll tell me what to do and provide the resources needed for me to accomplish the task. Otherwise I wait and keep moving. Why I believe everyone needs to take a personal prayer retreat. Sometimes we can get so consumed with the day to day affairs that we lose our focus and stray away from our why and our what, Why did God deliver me and what did He call me to do. Everything God does is for a purpose, which is to have His plan fulfilled through you. In Jeremiah 29:11 it says, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." So why I believe everyone needs to take a personal prayer retreat? Prayer retreats helps you be still and reconnect with the plans of God for your life. What about you, what has God called you to do? Our church has an initiative called #lighttheworld , I think I’ve shared that before. It’s about serving someone everyday. Taking on the spirit of Christmas and sharing the reason for the season. Every year we find others in need and provide meals, gifts etc. For several years, Mike and I decided instead of giving each other gifts, we would give to others in need. It’s truly been a blessing in our lives. And a great teaching tool for our children and now grand children. They get excited when they get to help package up gifts and deliver them anonymously. Yesterday while sitting in church enjoying the Christmas program, I had this overwhelming feeling we needed to reach out to a particular family member that has many struggles, has said and done things to others to the point no one wanted to have anything to do with them. Anyway, my heart had this overwhelming softness and I knew we needed to serve one more... I’ll just say, the artisan bread and homemade roasted garlic and herb butter wasn’t much, but it was delivered to someone in need...The simple act of kindness softened my heart and I dare say helped the recipient and the deliverer. The CHRISTmas spirit is strong today... What emotional baggage are you carrying around? God says it's time to release them and get free! There are 5 things I want to share with you to assist you on your journey. 1. YOU have some baggage and NAME IT! Is it addiction, shame, bitterness, abandonment, guilt, suicidal thoughts, perversion, fear ? If you are not sure why you can't stop your sabatoging behavior or what is tripping you up and triggering anger in your heart, be still and ask God, He will reveal it to you. So many of us carry wounds of brokenness and pain in our hearts that only God can remove. What are you going to do about it? Stay stuck or claim what's rightfully yours. PEACE & JOY belongs to you as a child of God. Will you claim the life that Jesus died for you to enjoy? You must make up your mind that you will stop carrying that weight, Jesus already carried for you. You have to forget about what others will say about you. You must be desperate and tired in order for you to let God do what only He can do. Ultimately, the choice is yours. 2. FEAR of ABANDONMENT, because it seemed that everyone I loved always left me. GOD HAS SET ME FREE FROM MY SABATOGING BEHAVIORS. HE HAS SET ME FREE FROM MY NEGATIVE THOUGHTS AND WORRYING ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THOUGHT OF ME. I AM FREE INDEED I LOVE BEING FREE AND I PURPOSE TO REMAIN FREE DAILY...
