I've always seen dragonflies as good omens. Whenever I see one or more fly around me, I've always had a good day or event happen in the near future. It also applies to decisions or thoughts I'm stewing over, they always seem to appear on a specific thought or choice I can't decide on, and that specific thought or decision has never been wrong or negative. This was a wild hike through a Hawaiian rainforest โ made all the more wild by doing it in a downpour. We trekked up muddy trails filled with roots and rocks, past monstrous waterfalls, through a bamboo thicket. Itโs been a few weeks since my last Bird of the Day postingโฆ Iโve been blessed to spend nearly the last 2 weeks in Panama, a true paradise for birders and bird photographers. Iโll be posting birds (and perhaps some other fauna and flora of Panama) over the next several weeks - as well as continuing to post images of birds from here in Southwest Florida. Todayโs Bird of the Dayโฆ the Montezuma Oropendola - a new world tropical passerine bird found in the Caribbean coastal lowlands from Mexico to Panama. There are several oropendola species and the Montezuma was named to commemorate the Aztec emperor. The Montezuma oropendolasare primarily chestnut with a blackish head, and has bright yellow tail feathers; the bill is long, black with a red tip. These oropendolas build amazing large hanging nests (Iโll post pictures of these separately).
