Glenn Ford’s first wife was actress and dancer Eleanor Powell (1943–1959), with whom he had his only child, Peter Ford (born 1945). When they married, Eleanor was more famous than he was. Glenn’s son Peter wrote that his father had affairs with 146 actresses, all of which were documented in his personal diaries, including a 40-year, intermittent affair with Rita Hayworth that began during the filming of Gilda in 1945. Some other famous ladies that Glenn had affairs with were, Gloria Grahame, Gene Tierney, Eva Gabor, Joan Crawford and Barbara Stanwyck. He had a one-night stand with Marilyn Monroe in 1962. Glenn also had relationships with Judy Garland (six months) Connie Stevens, Suzanne Pleshette, Rhonda Fleming, Terry Moore, Angie Dickinson, Debbie Reynolds, Jill St. John, Brigitte Bardot and Loretta Young. In 1960, Glenn bought the lot next to Rita Hayworth’s Beverly Hills home, which she shared with then-husband James Hill. “That’s where he built his dream house,” his son Peter explained. “The day after he finished that house and moved into it, she filed for divorce. The two of them were back together again. He installed a little gate in the back of his property so she could come from her house over to his.
