A series of ceramic hearts I made a few weeks ago using a cookie cutter and letter stamps. They’re part of my current project, which is all about love. I’m particularly interested with the commercialisation of love. Romance is weaponised by ad agencies. They tell us we need to buy our partners red roses on Valentine’s Day, and the week before they triple the price. Love is now concerned with “soft launching” your boyfriend on Instagram, and buying each other things. All of these rules, like who pays on the first date, how much should an engagement ring cost, and with many modern weddings costing upwards of £20,000 - I feel like we’ve forgotten the actual point of romance. This piece is special and I’ll tell you why⬇️⬇️ [Subject Prounouns: She//They] A lot of my initial conversations with my subjects is about how they want to be seen. We talk about who they are, what they love, and what inspires them. All these topics are things I take intensive notes on because they inform me later, as I create the backdrops, to translate them into the scene. To date, @tasalghul and I have created multiple artworks throughout many sessions, and in each one we translated an intensity and power into each piece… But with the @glimmerwood collaboration, Tas asked to be seen differently this time. This time was about embracing gentleness and peaceful feelings which was an area that was new for both of us to work on together 💕 👗 Cassie of Glimmerwood also created this dress specifically for Tas and in collaboration with them, which is absolutely incredible Looking at the final artwork, there is something so healing about the imagery, and I think it truly stems from Tas’ choice to be seen in a new way, and to express herself uniquely🖼️🙌🏽 So I ask you: —————— How would YOU want to be seen? Colección Martínez Lanzas-de las Heras. Inv.484. Escuela francesa. Círculo de Jean-Laurent Mosnier. Oficial de la marina francesa. Hacia 1785. Marco de madera rectangular y cerco de latón dorado en interior. Acuarela y guache sobre marfil. 65 mm. El siguiente retrato de un oficial de la marina francesa y caballero de la Orden Real y militar de Saint-Louis, es una de las piezas destacadas de la colección. Esta orden militar precursora de la legión de honor, fue creada por Luís XIV y abolida en 1792. Sobre un fondo gris azulado muy matizado, se destaca el noble rostro de este oficial de la armada francesa, pintado hacia 1780, de mirada franca y directa, de pobladas cejas y ojos azules obtenidos con una vivacidad sorprendente, boca fina y piel pálida ejecutado en muy finos golpes de pincel cruzados. La casaca azul con la insignia de la orden de Saint Louis prendida de la cinta roja, el chaleco blanco, la chorrera de la camisa y las doradas charreteras, están plasmadas de manera soberbia, aunque su estado de conservación no sea del todo excelente. Su manera fácil y ligera de pincelada desenvuelta nos recuerda al miniaturista Jean-Laurent Mosnier, pintor nacido en París en 1743 y fallecido en San Petersburgo en 1808. Pintor de la corte bajo el Antiguo Régimen, Mosnier desarrolló su brillante carrera como pintor y miniaturista desde 1766. Tras el estallido revolucionario, Mosnier se refugió en Londres, como lo hicieran otros miniaturistas franceses, tales como Violet y Ferrières.
