“I guess you could say that I’ve finally given up on time management (and I tell that story in my most recent book, In Good Time) because the whole project of managing our time assumes a control we don’t actually have. Instead, in my rule of life practice, I’m trying to pursue consistent rhythms of faithfulness in my everyday life.” - @jenpmichel Read more of Jen's thought-provoking interview (link in bio).

"One of the best things that ever happened to me was being left out. It sounds crazy, and I never would’ve believed it at the time, but it’s true. One of the best things that ever happened to me was being left out. All those tears over not being invited, taught me empathy. All those feelings of loneliness and insecurity showed me what it feels like to be left on the outside of the circle, and it feels like crap. But I never would’ve realized it if it hadn’t happened to me personally. I include other people because I haven’t always been included. I notice other people because I haven’t always been noticed. I encourage other people because I haven’t always been encouraged. I try my hardest to love other people as they are because I haven’t always been loved as I am. I’m loyal. I’m understanding. I do my best to be honest. I forgive. I try to fix things when I mess up. I show up. I’m not perfect. I’m not even close, but oh my word, nobody can ever say that I didn’t try with everything I have. I’m good to my friends, and I genuinely think it’s all because I know what it’s like to be left out. We always have the opportunity to let hard stuff harden us. We always have the opportunity to let pain keep us from growing. We always have the opportunity to let the wrong people lead us down the wrong path. We always have the opportunity to use hurt as an excuse to hurt others. That’s one opportunity I hope we let walk right past and on down the street without us even blinking an eyelid. But what I do hope we learn, and I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: I hope we learn to be the kind of woman we wish someone had been to us. We can change things, but we’ve gotta step it up, and we’ve gotta change us first." #SisterIAmWithYou (This photo was possible because, even though it can be scary to talk to new people, strangers become forever friends 😍😍 Brenda Woodman Michael Paul Zografos )

I think one of the hardest things, at least for me, is to allow someone to have a bad opinion of me. I want to defend myself. I want to explain why they’re wrong. I want to convince them that I’m a decent person and I am worth liking. I don’t want my reputation left in their hands, because their hands are fickle. But the truth is. The very, very hard-to-swallow truth is that I’m not in control of their opinions about me. I’m not in control of the view they have of me, the light they choose to see me through and unfortunately, even what they say about me to others. Peace is letting go. Peace is accepting that they’re entitled to their feelings about me. They have every right to not like me. They have every right to not choose me, to not invite me or to label me as the villain, the bad guy, or whatever else they want. They don’t have to forgive me, give me grace or even attempt to understand my point of view. But at the end of the day, the thing is, my reputation is who they think I am—whatever version of me they have created in their mind. It may be about me. It may involve me, but it’s not really mine to hold. My character, however, is who I actually am. My character belongs to me and me alone, and I take it seriously, so I guess they can have their perceptions and they can have their own ideas about who I am and why I do what I do. I release their opinions about me, but I hold tight to my peace. We all have to take responsibility for the words we write. That’s on us, but we don’t have to exhaust ourselves trying to be responsible for the way people choose to read them. That’s on them. 💛💛💛 #Repost #sisteriamwithyou This is so hard when it’s someone you love with all your heart! ♥️

"I absolutely positively cannot stress this enough: the people around you have a direct impact on what happens in you. They can’t control you. They aren’t in charge of your happiness and you aren’t in charge of theirs. In the end, we’re all responsible for ourselves, so that’s not what I’m saying. What I’m saying is—their attitude is going to rub off on you. Whether they’re positive or negative. Whether they’re reactive or whether they respond with wisdom. Whether they are actively growing and learning and trying to do better. Whether they’re trying to get healthy and stay healthy. The words that come out of their mouth will more than likely eventually come out of your mouth too in some way, shape, or form. The way they handle themselves, the way they treat others, they way they view their close relationships—it all matters. Whether they compete, condemn, criticize or lift up. The way they spend their money. They way they spend their time. The books they read and the things they love. Their confidence is likely going to give you confidence about yourself and their insecurity is likely going to give you insecurity about yourself. Their focus is going to change what you’re looking at, even if it’s just the teeniest tiniest bit. Their moral compass may not become your moral compass completely, but it’s very likely going move the needle north or south. So when you’re choosing who to surround yourself, it’s essential that you choose people who are like-hearted. This will always always always be some of the best advice I have to offer the world in regards to friendship." It matters. 🤍 #SisterIAmWithYou

There are people out there who don’t like me. There are people out there who doubt me. There are people out there gossip about me. There are people out there who aren’t for me whatsoever, and who probably wouldn’t mind if I fell fall flat on my face. But... There are also people out there who are cheering me on wildly. There are also people out there who enjoy my company. There are also people out there who get me. There are also people out there who give me the benefit of the doubt. There are people out there who love me, and accept me, and hold out their arms and 100% support me, so they are the ones I focus on. They are the ones I go back to. They are the ones I listen to. They are the ones I choose over and over again. It’s all about your focus. The shakers, and fakers and sunshine-takers out there can’t possibly steal your joy if you keep your eyes laser-locked on the good stuff. Love, Kim #sisteriamwithyou

To my long distance friends (who have stayed close in my heart), I wish we lived close by. I wish I could pop by with some margaritas and chips and salsa. I wish I could give you a huge hug every time you're having a bad day, and swing by to grab the kids when you're sick. But even though there are way too many miles between us, I want you to know that I'm with you in heart always. I want you to know I carry you around on my mind, that I say random prayers for you while I'm driving the kids to school or vacuuming the living room carpet. I want you to know that every time you come to mind I smile or laugh and think about how much I just love you. I treasure the times we can connect on the phone and getting a text makes my day. When we see each other it's like all is right with the world and I hold on to those times long after you go home. I love that no matter how many days and hours and years pass, when we're in the same room it feels like home. We aren't just friends, we are family. I love you. #sisteriamwithyou #friendsforever #familybychoice

💛Book Tour & Feature💛 Thank you @tlcbooktours @amyweatherly  @jessmariejohnston @sisteriamwithyou  @nelsonbooks and @harpercollins for my gifted copy. AVAILABLE NOW! My friendships both in person and on social media mean the world to me.  I've maintained some of my friendships for over 50 years!!  Yes.....I'm that old🤣  Just like any relationship, friendships last because both people want them to and work at it.  I'm looking forward to exploring the advice in this book so I can continue to make my friendships stronger! DESCRIPTION We all long to do life together with people who really “get” us. Amy Weatherly and Jess Johnston, bestselling authors and founders of the wildly popular “Sister, I Am with You” online community, simplify some of the trickier aspects of friendship and give readers practical ways to deepen the friendships they already have. Making friends as an adult is hard! It’s weird and it’s tricky and it can feel overwhelming. Maintaining those friendships and taking them to a deeper level can be even harder. Just as Amy and Jess gave readers a road map for finding real, authentic relationships with I’ll Be There (But I’ll Be Wearing Sweatpants), they now provide a toolkit for building up and building on those friendships. Here For It (The Good, the Bad, and the Queso) will dig deeper into the hows and whys of doing life together in a culture that constantly tries to keep us separate. Readers will learn how to 💛 distinguish between different types of friendships and recognize when a seasonal relationship has run its course; 💛 understand the importance of self-awareness, healthy confrontation, and differing love languages in friendship; and 💛 maintain long-distance friendships, foster real relationships with your neighbors, and establish traditions that strengthen your connections. With this new book, Amy and Jess give readers the tools they need to continue laying a strong foundation and building relationships that are steady, secure, and made to withstand whatever life throws their way. QOTD:  Do you find it harder to make new friends as an adult vs when you were younger? #hereforit #hereforitbook  #tlcbooktours

With this new book, Amy and Jess give readers the tools they need to continue laying a strong foundation and building relationships that are steady, secure, and made to withstand whatever life throws their way. #ibelieveinbookfairies #TBFHere #TBFNeldonBooks #hereforitbook #sisteriamwithyou #nelsonbooks #friendship #femalefriendship #friendshipbracelets

“We’ll be honest: It’s easier to write from the mountain tops. It’s easier to write when you’re filled up to overflowing.” The Book Fairies are sharing copies of Here For It by Amy Weatherly and Jess Johnston! We’ve included a set of friendship bracelets with each book, so the finder can keep one and give one to a good friend. Who will be lucky enough to spot one? About the book: We all long to do life together with people who really "get" us. Amy Weatherly and Jess Johnston, bestselling authors and founders of the wildly popular "Sister, I Am with You" online community, simplify some of the trickier aspects of friendship and give readers practical ways to deepen the friendships they already have. Making friends as an adult is hard! It's weird and it's tricky and it can feel overwhelming. Maintaining those friendships and taking them to a deeper level can be even harder. Just as Amy and Jess gave readers a road map for finding real, authentic relationships with I'll Be There (But I'll Be Wearing Sweatpants), they now provide a toolkit for building up and building on those friendships.
