Day 4 (Part 2) These were the slot canyons we were looking for. And bonus they were also badlands! The rocks were very cool to the touch and really cool to walk through without being too claustrophobic. Also hiked through the badlands to get to a good viewpoint. This park was pretty small but was really diverse with what you could see. And there were tumbleweeds everywhere! Rock sculpture - the incredible lower Antelope Canyon. A big highlight of our trip was a guided tour through lower Antelope Canyon with a Navajo tour guide. We descended a ladder into a wonderful sculpted slot canyon where the power of water has created phenomenal shapes. The light filtered from above reflecting snd bouncing off the walls creating wonderful red snd orange colours. The dynamic range was enormous so I tried to exclude sky where possible and use the reflected light. No tripods we’re allowed so I shot handheld at high ISO and bracketed by 3 stops, one of the few occasions HDR was very useful. #AntelopeCanyon in Page, Arizona is so beautiful 📌. My family and I booked a tour with Taadidiin Tours and hiked through Antelope Canyon X. There are upper and lower canyons that you can also check out, with varying slots to hike through, but the X canyon is just as fun if not better to see. 🏜 It costs about $50 per person, and the tour lasts 90 minutes total, which includes a van ride to and from the site. There's a waiver to sign in advance, and videos are not allowed to be taken on the tour. Please respect this as the slot canyon is located on Navajo Nation (Native American land!) The hike 🥾 is super easy, and the tour guides are awesome. I wish I could remember the name of the woman who guided us. She took some sweet photos of us (pic 1 and 2) using our phones. It's a pretty intimate tour, with a handful of people in each group. This made it easy to ask questions about their history and land. They (our tour guide at least) explain how the canyon was created and go into depth about how old the land is and when they found it. 🌟 We learned that the Native Americans used it to hide from the Americans. They were never found, and when the Americans left, they popped out of the canyon and claimed the land at their feet! Any questions about visiting here? The Wave was absolutely breathtaking. There is no trail to The Wave, you are sent paper instructions along with your permit in the mail. I used the AllTrails app and it worked fairly well. The route goes over slick rock so if you haven’t been there before, have an app or have the instructions, you can’t find it. I was blown away by the beauty of the entire Vermilion Cliffs area but the Wave and the hike to it were out of this world gorgeous.
