The fabric is the dreamy Fantasy Flight with the prettiest birds in pinks and lilacs. I can't wait to wear this dress to a wedding or garden party, the possibilities for accessorising are endless! This beautiful embroidered cotton lawn from @minervadotcom makes me so happy, the colours of the fabric and embroidery are telling me to enjoy the sunshine when it appears and go to the beach! I made the Dawn McCalls dress M8104 because its got the boho vibe I was looking for and sewing all those buttonholes would give my new Brother sewing machine a bit of a test, which I'm pleased to say it passed with flying colours!! I am so happy that my pink coat is finally finished. I started working on it about a year ago. It is a self-drawn pattern. The shape is based on the classic coat pattern: with shoulder darts, elbow darts, and bust darts. The last one is placed so that it overflows into the pocket. The fabric is a loose-weave cotton. The lining is from my stash. Silver grey with Chinese figures. The coat has no closures! #wgsewing24 #so50pink

I had just enough of @minervadotcom crush velvet stretch knit in Hot Pink left and I immediately thought of making a new Adrienne Blouse. The velvet which was so perfect for a party dress is great for more casual styles too and I wore this today to the Jorvik Viking Festival in York. It’s #FashionOnTheSofaFriday, and I’m wearing a #AmandaSelekjole. This was my first make at sewing courses at @tinesolheim_design, and I learned a lot. Fabrics from @rainbowtekstil. There’s been lots of sewing but very little sharing recently so thought I’d start with my latest @truebias Marlo in a beautiful clay pink snug sweater knit from @lamazifabrics . I was inspired by a cardigan I saw on a shopping trip before Christmas (last photo) and found these giant pearl buttons at @newcrafthouse 💕 Pink is not in my usual colour palette but this clay pink is more of a dusty rose - I think the photos are making it more vibrant than it is. I reprinted the pattern and sized down to a 12 for this version which is much more wearable than my bigger ones. First make of 2024. This is the #leabiasdress, in a linen/viscose blend. I made a size 10, long length (I’m about 5’8”). I think I spent more time fitting the pattern pieces on the fabric than actually making the dress. I chose not to use tear away vilene as neckline/ armhole facings and carefully stay stitched them, I also used my preferred binding method rather than the instructions given. It fits very well around the bust, which was my exact measurement, however I’m wondering if I should have sized up, and I’ve possibly not quite cut the back pieces properly on the bias, but no one else will notice. Thankfully the hem didn’t drop while hanging , so no evening up was required. Overall a simple, quickly and easily made dress, that I’m hoping I’ll get a lot of use out of before summer ends. So, I finished my second #charidress from @schnittchenpatterns. This time with sleeves. The fabric is a drapey viscose from my collection 😉. Designed, drafted and sewed my first ever jacket with a notched collar. And I absolutely love it — pink flowers and all! 🌸🌺🌸IKR! This would never have come about if @sarahcsewing hadn’t suggested #jovialjune as a prompt for #magamsewalong with a deadline attached so I am truly grateful. And also very thankful for the awesome pair of vintage @marksandspencer curtains donated by my lovely friend Kiki. It was a fair bit of work in the end but worth it to get a great finish and now I’m so ready to explore more tailoring techniques(whenever you’re free @mr_o_pattern_studio !) The skirt is self-drafted, too — high-waisted so that a waist seam isn’t visible below the cropped jacket (that’s such a bugbear of mine!) It’s very simple but fits in all the right places and that was so important after investing so much time in the jacket. Der Schnitt ist die Bluse Umeko von B-Patterns, genäht aus einem altrosa French Terry von der Stoffwiese in Bottrop-Kirchhellen. Etwas schwierig war die Suche nach einem passenden Stoff für die Blenden, weil die Punkte nicht rein weiß sind und zu helle oder zu dunkle Weißtöne einfach blöd aussahen. Bei Buttinette wurde ich dann fündig. Oversize, button-down pink shirt. I’m ready for Spring/Summer. I love it! It’s the #vikisews_liza from @vikisews . Fabric is a rayon challis from @stylemakerfabrics . I first saw the pattern in @threadsmagazine but I had to do some sleuthing to figure out the pattern (last photo). This pattern is great. I like the construction techniques with stitch-in-the-ditch for collar, front facing and cuffs- cuts down on hand sewing. I couldn’t follow the instructions for the cuffs, so, I did what seemed reasonable and it came out well. I love the style details: a wide front placket, pleats on the yokes and sleeves (see later photos), rouleaux button closures. The pleats are hard to see in this patterned fabric. I may have to make another shirt out of plain fabric… It’s an entry for #sewaprilblouse23 contest kindly hosted by @cloth_edit and @theyorkshiresewgirl . Details: I made size 34, height 154-160cm (= 5’- 5’3”) - smallest size available. Even though this height is suitable for me, I shortened the bodice and the sleeves by 1” because I am short-waisted. Fabric: Rayon Challis from @stylemakerfabrics , SKU 19009. I used Light Weight Knit Fusible interfacing from #stylemakerfabrics and that was perfect for this fabric. Some times I wear something other than mustard black and white. I made this sweater recently before hearing about #so50pink week over at @sewover50 I’m back working with this chunky sweater fabric that I’m somewhat obsessed with and this time I hacked the Nikki Sweatshirt pattern by cutting down the center front , and dropping the neckline a bit into a v-shape. I extended the pattern length of the neckband, sewed it to the neckline and then sewed the center front seam including the band. Because of the bulk of the fabric, this is easier to do rather than trying to make a pivot at a center front V on a solid front piece. Before stitching the center front I baste from the top of the neckband down a few inches to make sure that everything lines up. It’s still a very chilly spring here in the Seattle area so I’m still layering up most of the time. I actually made something else this weekend that also has pink so now I have a few other pieces. Well this is as pink as it gets in my ‘ginger’ world. I’ve avoided pink all my life - I’m more of an autumn hues type of girl. However this camo jersey including a dusky pink was originally bought for my daughter but after a couple of years on the stash shelf I used it to create a toile of the @wavesandwild Hot Chocolate top. So glad I did, as I’ve made it a couple of times since. It’s pretty cool when today’s Wear It On Wednesday theme coordinates with @sewover50 ‘s Pink Week. 🌸🙌🌸 Each week @heysewgeorgie presents a new prompt for #wearitonwednesday to encourage us to rewear, rotate and rediscover our wardrobes! I’m all in favor of making better use of what is currently hanging in my closet and potentially reducing my demand/ desire for new clothes. 👍 This week’s theme is floral. Floral is not big in my closet, so it was easy to choose what to wear today!! This is Simplicity #s9106 made out of an old linen blend from my stash. My two favorite things about this top are 1. the fun asymmetrical front opening and 2. the wooden flower buttons!!🌸🌸 But a serious word of warning: you can’t get dressed in a hurry with these buttons! Finally joining in #WearItOnWednesday organised by @heysewgeorgie . This week it is Flora. I bought this skirt from @justjillrosalind destash last autumn. It's @geigerfashion so is beautiful quality. Gorgeous heavy linen. The plan is to wear it casual. My dilemma is it's a bit too long . Shortening from the bottom would mean losing some of the border print. From the top would be tricky as it's beautifully sewn with the zip right next to one of the inseam pockets, lovely pleats and waistband. I love the fabric. And the side splits. Easter weekend - spinning at last! So much story in this one skein. The raw #merino fleece was a gift from my mum’s sister, I spun it on my mum’s wheel (which was formerly her eldest sister’s) and I sat outside in the sunshine with family all round while I was spinning and plying. And, I had the joy of teaching one of my daughters to prepare some of this fleece and spin it herself in the midst of this skein. #passiton #so50pink #sewover50 - this is a favourite #cielotop made from #upcycled opshop fabric; the pink makes me feel strong. However the few items I do own, are not the quiet shy feminine baby /blush or rose pinks, but in your face hot pink, fuchsia pink items. I haven't been posting much lately, tho I have been sewing! I had to share something for this #sewover50 prompt. Here's my #SO50Pink offering.
This is the Fibremood Kaya, with length. It’s made from a retro wool blanket probably a double? In Hobart, you usually had at least one of these on your bed, right up to the 80’s! Although I’m told ‘the plaid’ design trended in the 50-60s. The plaids are primarily ‘coral’ ( pink/orange) which tends to elicit strong feelings. Unlike some, I like it in this dress just as much as I did in the very early 80s ( when I wore a coral dress and felt so stylish 😂). I believe ‘coral’ is in the pink family so I’m joining the @sewover50 #so50pink challenge. Btw in the 1950’s ‘coral’ made it to haute couture. (was seen on the runways ) & in 2019 ‘living coral’ was the Pantone ‘colour of the year’ although truth be told, I didn’t buy a single thing in coral that year..The two scarves are by Jenny Turner & have lots of pink 💗.. Jenny is a Hobart artist & master weaver. Tops, a ‘cloud’ merino #stylearc Debra Zebra & the cream is the #lbpullover in a waffle weave thermal cotton . Deets: Size S ( size down from previous post ). Added length in the middle & hem area. Did a ‘buggy lining’ meaning it is lined to the high waist. Also bias bound the hem (= reduced bulk).Changed the pockets to ‘outers’ used the blanket stitch of the actual blanket to adorn the top of the pocket & placed them smack in the middle of the side seam. I have been testing some patterns lately and this lovely Aurora Dress by @wardrobebymepatterns is one of them. It’s a quick pattern to sew with many options. I opted for a view A with a tie collar and a ruffle detail. Whipped up the new #closetcoremarigold from #closetcorecrew for Valentine's Day and I love it! The yellow version is a wearable toile that I'll keep but felt the torso a little short for my 6ft frame. The lengthen/shorten line on the pattern didn't work for me, so I ended up lengthening the sleeve at body and tapering back to original cuff to make bat wings. I think it works and really love how the red and pink blocked version turned out. Fabric for both is ponte that has been sitting in my stash waiting for the perfect pattern to come along... Think pink! I bought this fabric from @tessutifabrics Melbourne, 2 or more years ago. Turns out it's a trend colour this season😍 I can't remember the fibre content: some sort of cotton blend with a sheen and fabulous drape. Pattern: 5977 Simplicity (1974) - gifted to me by @handystitcher 🙏🌼 The saga of getting this outfit done is long, inc. being paralysed by indecision about what to actually make🙄 I will spare you the details, but everything that could go wrong, did go wrong (inc. French seaming wrong side to right side. The top was self-drafted to fit the remaining fabric, then hated, so then remade. Etc, etc 🤪). And I'm STILL not happy with the top, so will have to tweak, again. I was trying for a bit of a funky vibe, so added the silver trim down the sides of the pants, and across the shoulders. I'm not a high heels kinda girl, so I bought a pair of white sandshoes, chunky soles. 🧡🛵💖👖🧵 This was quickie test run in stiffling heat in my comfy 🛵 SCooTeR🛵 pants from $1.99 charity shop fabric and quickie self drafted pattern. Back in 1970 I had sewn almost identical and coordinating hot pink plaid fabrics into proper jeans and jacket to wear on my Bright Orange Scooter folks bought me for 16th birthday! I was riding it to work and a block away when a nun drove straight thru stop sign - we collided, felt like Easy Rider 💥🤕 She told ambulance driver and cops she never saw me, no apologies - she was still driving forward after I flew over her roof and flipped off her front bumper!! 🙄🧡💖🙄 My bike was written off, helmet split, sneaker bottoms burned, and jeans and jacket ripped up from the pavement 😒 😐 I sold my last motocycle a few years ago, but the great memories live on in my new pants!! 🪡 Waist Elastic from Hubby's deconstructed shorts ♻️ Pockets sewn from pant scraps.
