Vorgestellt wird Julian Rohrhuber mit Auszügen aus seinen Klangarbeiten und seiner Klangforschung, das Gespräch führt Dirk Specht. – Wer an elektronischer Musik interessiert ist kennt Julian Rohrhuber vielleicht als einen der frühen Protagonisten im live coding und Mitentwickler der Programmiersprache SuperCollider. Seine Stücke verstehen sich als hörbare Form der Theorie; sie sind inspiriert von wissenschaftlichen, philosophischen und politischen Überlegungen. Klang ist aber nur eine Seite – er schreibt, lehrt und forscht auch noch zu anderen Themen. Im Gespräch werden wir über einige Arbeiten sprechen, was sie motiviert und wie sie zusammenhängen.

@amybiondomusic I had such an amazing time performing with you last night at the Center for Musical Arts for @lafayetteelectronicartsfest! This scene from the video element of the performance comes from a photo I took from within a sousaphone that had been rolling around in the surf off the coast of southern California. Thinking about harmonics, animal vocalizations, also ocean currents and atmospheric river events, frog fish and harp seals, icebergs and galapagos tortoises, whale sharks and cactus blooms…one giant chromatic ambisonic shit show. Amy Biondo and I mixed live, free improv vocals and viola with edited, amplified soundscapes, with projected moving imagery from my Fever Dream Opera, a project I started this fall at @bemiscenter which includes field recordings of echolocating bats, hissing beetles, soniferous fish and hungry starfish. I recorded a lot of the sounds from aquatic macro invertebrates at the @ucdavis Bodega Marine Laboratory a few summers back. Fever Dream Opera also features recordings by @kafelewilliams on trumpet. And a sound sculpture made of found brass instruments and objects that I welded at the Bemis Center, which was activated by @zoshazosha @uncleboonmeh from my @1beatmusic fam and myself during our performance at Low End this fall at Bemis. And a pipe organ I played at the one and only @the_church_art_house. The piece is a place to contemplate climate anxiety, color, resonance, decay (sonic and physical) and the sensory worlds of more-than-humans. Ecology, phenomena, perception, and sense of place are some of the things i’m thinking about…entanglements among people, landscapes, animals and natural processes. On that date, the great @lauraherz_ and I hosted an event called »Bild Text Ton« where we brought together photography, poetry and music. It was a wonderful night. Laura exhibited a selection of her fantastic photo works, the DJs @annechoic_ and Jan Dreseke played records, and I read from my long poem »Washington Square Park« — and performed as #Cellarkalt. So it is very important to make the room set well. Every morning in the 5 days training, we creates a new set & setting for the day. Each day is different in order to accommodate what we do on the day. Jens look at the set and teaches us details by actions. Day 4 April 6 @jens.zygar @reddoorsstudio All sound music instruments are laid out (thanks to @reddoorsstudio so many kinds of instruments we can hands on experience) Jens showed us how we can play. We were so impressed by the way he plays each instrument. It was so beautiful and creative. He plays as if each instrument is an extension of his body. He is energetically communicating with audiences, room, and each instrument, all monocles of every one and everything We play together. Each of us play all instruments by the end of the day. For the first time, I played drums (shamanic drum and ocean drum). This workshop gives us chances to explore different musical instruments and also play together. And again! I keep my trusty friend with me at all times. This Zoom H5 has traveled the world with me for many years now and is my primary field recorder and portable audio interface when I’m on the road. Recording around Bolivia however has been a trip and I was using it so much I started to run out of space on the hard drives I brought (cloud drive services to the rescue). Morning peeps, Tonight down in Hackney Wick for @earthlings_ldn and the cool intimate spot that is @hwklondon is the 2nd music event from Earthlings.. As you may know from my stories I’m a little excited to play a different style that will be much slower, ambient and experimental. I love high quality music of many kinds and I have always been in ore of music that makes me stop and wonder, how it was produced and what is it in the music that takes me away to another place. Ambient music from artists such as Brian Eno or early electronica from Tangerine Dream are some examples. When I moved to London in 2018 the music on offer was obviously one of the mane plus that brought me here. It was around this time, maybe 2019 I went to the ambient experimental event @experimentintrinsic for the first time. It was such a cool, relaxed and profound experience , listening to amazing ambient artists such as @nathaliapetkova who created the event with Function One sound within this cosy mosque in Dalston east London . Amazing visual projections and deep spoken words and strange soundscapes being played with passion and openness. It was very inspiring. So now a few years later I have an opportunity to play some music I’ve discovered in this style that I look forward to sharing with a few of you. I recorded a mix last night at home and will try and record tonight live. Amy and Glen from @fullof.noises helped them to learn how to listen to the sounds of nature and record what they heard. .
