Once upon a time, my life revolved around 'how I was perceived' by my family, friends, significant other and strangers that I would never see again. Needing those people to 'think' something specific about me was exhausting. I never felt like I could relax or 'be myself' for what if someone caught me doing something I felt *should be* considered "off-brand." I used to consider the silliest things "off-brand." Things like: 🚫Laughing too loud 🚫Being seen without a full face of make-up and salon quality hair 🚫Saying the wrong thing 🚫Being seen as someone with an opinion 🚫Showing up as intelligent or smart 🚫Capable of doing things for myself 🚫Showing emotion - good, bad, disappointment, frustration, etc 🚫Being anything but happy and perfect ....then I had a most amazing wake-up call. I was acting like a 'Stepford' wife and hiding all the things that made me 'me'....wild, curly hair and all. ...it was making me miserable By putting everyone else's thoughts about me first, I gave them the power to make my life (and me) miserable or happy. How I felt about me, depended upon how THEY felt about me. I handed them complete control over my small, unfulfilled, 'would I ever be enough' life. The moment I shifted caring what they thought to caring what I thought was the pivot point of change for me. It was the pivot to: 🐞Discovering what multiplied happiness and joy into my life 🐞Accepting me for who I am ... flaws and all. 🐞Granting myself permission to live the life that my heart was craving of stepping into life as a digital nomad vs. working in a safe 8-5 desk job that I was good at, but left me depleted and frustrated. 🐞Being my true, authentic me. 🐞Recognizing it was up to me to be a good human, choose what is right for me without causing harm to others and know when to put the feeling of others ahead of my own when it is in the highest and best good of all involved. The best part is that I get to choose to do this with kindness, empathy, compassion and love. My wish for you is that you find your own balance of caring more about what you think of you than what other's think of you. ❤️🐞❤️ -Katy

Mnohí z vás sa mali možnosť stretnúť s filmovými adaptáciami kníh, ktoré napísal Ira Levin. Najznámejšie z nich sú "Rosemary má dieťatko" a práve Stepfordské paničky. Už je to veľmi dlhá doba, čo som videla novšie spracovanie s Nicole Kidman (existuje aj verzia z roku 1975) a pripadá mi celkom ironické, že hrala vo filme, vzhľadom na jej ex - síce iného Toma, ale tiež ho veľmi netreba menovať... Stepfordské paničky sú minimalistická jednohubka (137 strán čistého textu), ktorá necháva napriek jednoduchej premise veľa nevypovedaného a podobne ako napr. Príbeh služobníčky poskytuje obrovský priestor na sebarealizáciu filmárom, hoci film veľmi nemusím - prechádza až do komediálnej roviny a chýba mu isté napätie a paranoja Joanny z knihy. Aj koniec je iný oproti knihe, ak sa dobre pamätám. Mám radšej tieto strohé texty bez vyvrcholenia a oslobodila som sa od toho, aby som si predstavovala pri čítaní Nicole Kidman. Takže za mňa kniha > film. Kniha pôvodne vyšla už v roku 1972, takže dnešnej generácii je preexponovaný obraz dokonalých žien v domácnosti pomerne cudzí, napriek tomu je výstraha pred stratou osobnej integrity vo vzťahu rovnako aktuálna ako v čase vzniku textu. Dokonca existujú influencerky - vystupujúce ako "tradičné manželky" #tradwife - kt. žijú v súčasnosti rovnako ako stepfordské paničky, vrátane návratu k vintage štýlu (uznávam vizuál je pekný, ale nechávať údajne za seba rozhodovať vo všetkom muža - proste NIE). Používajú paradoxne názov knihy #stepfordwife na prezentáciu ich životného štýlu, ignorujúc pôvodnú ideu/zámer knihy. Ale každému to jeho... Možno preto som stále single... 🤷😂 Mínusy knihy - iba formálne: obrovské množstvo chýb, dokonca aj na obale "filmový scenáristi", skloňovanie mena Walter, názov anglického originálu v tiráži "Stepford Wieves" a iné... Aj keď niekomu možno poriadne vyvrcholenie textu bude chýbať. A rozčúlia ho všetky nezodpovedané otázky, takže neodporúčam čítať pred spaním 😉 tá hlavná asi bude: To je všetko? Bu kadınlara ne oldu? Niye, nasıl değiştiler. Bir teori buldu Joanna fakat o da bu değişimden kurtulamadı. O son sahneler gerçekten kitabın en heyecanlı yeriydi. Kitabın sonu beni tatmin etti. Eğer klasik bir mutlu son olsaydı bu kadar etkili olmazdı. Bir an Joanna için ümitlenmedim de değil. 📌 Açıkçası kitap kadınlığın indirgendiği noktanın, bu yüzyılda bile hiç değişmediğini gösterdi. Bize empoze edilen kadın algısı Stepford kadınlarından çok da farklı değil. Ve değişmesi gereken kadın değil erkek zihniyeti. Yoksa onların bilinçaltı hep aynı. Onlara hizmet edilmesi, onların rahatlığı yani sadece onlar ne isterse nasıl isterse o şekilde olması. Ne kadar bencilce bir yaklaşım değil mi? “The Stepford Wives” by Ira Levin was such a quick and captivating book that has so much truth to its satire and irony even 52 years later! Talk about scary! The way the women in the neighborhood behave was very strange to read and the subtle gaslighting over time by the men made it suspenseful. You eerily wonder could something like this happen today? As a reader you don’t know the level of involvement the main character’s husband has in the “Men’s Association”. The protagonist is expected to believe that all of these successful women with progressive views gradually became bored with their passions and decided to “stop being selfish and lazy” ie become housewives with no opinions to aggravate their husbands. It was chilling that the main ring leader had previously worked for Disney making the animatronic presidents.
