If you are not used to walking uphill very often, take it easy and take it slow. We started at La Playa and ended at 48th Avenue and Sutro Heights. We looked for Anza Street to go back downhill to the commercial corridor of Balboa Street (35th Ave. to 38th Ave.). The sign said: “A special place protected. Though small, Sutro Dunes holds a lot of history. Once a part of the Playland Amusement Park, this 3.3 acre remnant of San Francisco’s once expansive dune geography was saved from development by decades of community effort. Since then, volunteers have donated thousands of hours caring for the site. You can access adjacent Sutro Heights Park via the stairs at La Playa Street. The Dawn of Day 7 has come and gone, and what a day it was🥰! This will have to be multiple parts because there was so much. Pt:1 has Wolfblood going to the edge of the world with their puppy friends. It’s a second beach episode everyone!!! This east coast pup has gone from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific and has thus connected the two! (That’s how that works right?) It was a lot of fun getting to run in the sand of Ocean beach with these wonderful pups and posing with Pup Shadow’s car. Soon after, these pups went up to the nearby citadel on point lobos and got some beautiful mountain high views of the beach and city. These pups know how to show someone a good time and this is only the first part of Wolfblood’s last day in #sanfrancisco . Adolph Sutro built a massive pleasure garden and lived on his estate above the sea from the 1860s until his death in the late 1890s. He was one of the most influential real estate developers in the city's history, and was also its mayor for a while. Last Sunday, we went for a short hike at #landsend at the northern tip of #oceanbeach, #sanfrancisco, and visited the #sutrobaths ruins, a sea tunnel and the #cliffhousesf. #sutrobathssf was built in 1894 by Adolf Sutro, a self-made millionaire and entrepreneur who was also a former mayor of San Francisco. Sutro also designed #sutroheights and later constructed the second #cliffhouse which opened in 1896 after the original cliff house (built 1863) was tragically burnt down in 1894. However, in September 1907, fire once again destroyed the second Cliff House. A third cliff house was later built in the 1920s, thrived for a few decades but todate, it is sadly left abandoned and dilapidated due to the economic downturn. The privately owned Sutro Baths had seven different temperature pools, six of which were salt water filled from the #pacificocean. The entire complex covered three acres and boasted impressive engineering and artistic details. Unfortunately, the structure burned down to its concrete foundation in June 1966. Today, the remaining ruins are part of the #goldengatenationalreceationarea since 1973 and one of the #sutroheightshistorical sites.
