I had the privilege of getting an ARC read for this one. And I absolutely loved it. So here is what I have to say about this stunning book. If you're in the mood for a story that's equal parts enchanting and empowering, this is definitely the book for you. Trust me, once you start reading, you won't be able to put it down. It's a story about uncovering hidden truths, embracing one's unique powers, and finding love in the most unexpected places. We have a strong FMC and a grumpy but warm hearted MMC. It’s magical and mysterious and beautifully written. There is this super cute pining situation going on. I'm talking about that delicious, heart-wrenching longing that makes you want to shout at the characters to just KISS already. But it’s not all about the romance but also about the found family and the strength the FMC carries throughout the book. I fell in love with each and every character in this book. Some made me snort and cry with laughter and others made me cry so hard I couldn’t see the pages anymore. Then there were moments where I just kicked my feet and giggled until I blushed so hard that I probably looked like a tomato. But that’s not all because this book is not only about the super adventurous moments but also about the quiet moments shared between two souls as they navigate their feelings and uncover the secrets of their pasts. All in all, this book has so many things that I just love in a romantasy book. Heart wrenching Love, interesting Magic, stunning adventures and here and there some cute tropes. It’s like a big, warm hug wrapped in a blanket of enchantment but also some turbulences- but those dark moments make it even better. I can only recommend this beautiful story. So first things first, seeing this book being promoted on TIKTOK i was super excited going in as an ARC Reader. After reading it i can still say that i really loved the story. You feel that there was a lot of thought put into it and i liked that it was a beauty and the beast retelling with a twist. Unfortunately it was just to fast paced for me. I missed having more detail about the different characters and though i felt the love story of the main protagonists once it was blooming, i missed the way there. What also really bothered me, was that you are thrown into this world with barley any explanation to it. Some comes during the book but i found it very hard to get into it. Once i was into it, i really rooted for the characters but there were just some choices both in the storytelling and the character development as well as in the speed that just weren´t for me. It is a fun read if you´re looking for a magic world and a Fairy Tale retelling with a strong female lead and you like him falling first ( which i did! Boy did i!) It’s deeply emotional and twisted, featuring a dark magic that’s infecting and killing all the land in the kingdom. 🥀 Mira is the FMC, an unusually beautiful young woman “blessed”with being one of “the coveted”. The reader learns from her introduction that she’s been taken as a captive over and over her whole life by men who want to use her for her magic abilities. Society has been led to believe she will grant them whatever they desires. The specifics of Mira’s magic are revealed much later in the book. 🥀 A ferocious Beast enters the story when Mira has been rescued from one captor and taken to a castle, a more beautiful location, but the situation is still the same. The Beast whisks her away to his own large home, closer to the worst of the dark magic’s infestation, hoping to convince her to help and heal the land. 🥀 The relationship between Mira and the Beast (Dante), is a very slow burn, helped along by the found family that lives with him and their mutual love of books. The PTSD rep is strong and the layers of trauma and complexity that both characters possess and begin to confide is truly lovely. I could 💯 love this beast and I understand why Mira falls deeply for him. 🥀 I love the found family of Jasper, Calista, Hu, and the others. Excellently fleshed out and dynamic and charming. I absolutely adored the descriptive world building and the way that elements from Beauty and the Beast were woven throughout the story to make it feel somewhat nostalgic, yet still incredibly unique. I also loved Mira and her character development. Her journey from a life of submission and captivity to one of freedom, confidence, and love brought tears to my eyes. The found family trope in this book is IMPECCABLE. It will warm your heart and give you all the feels. Dante’s transformative journey was also compelling. I loved his protective nature and how he cared for others, including those in the cursed kingdom. His love for Mira was incredibly swoon-worthy. I absolutely loved how their relationship bloomed into a deep-rooted love, despite the initial captivity. Here’s one of my favorite quotes from The Coveted and the Cursed: “But know that for every day for the rest of my life, I will see you in the sunrise and sunset. In the flowers that fight to bloom here. In the twinklers that shine in the night. I will never not think of you. My only problem is that the story really didn't have much going after, like the last 70-ish %. Another thing is the details of the magic, which I think is more of a telling than showing? There's also parts that were unanswered for me, and everything just felt and resolved easily, which made it very anticlimactic. I didn't have problems with the characters, I think they are really decent personality wise, but I just think there weren't enough quality that made them stand out. The romance also felt short considering the fact that the novel is more of a world building. I kind of didn't feel the romance there. Overall, I think this was okay.
