Olyan jó lenne lemérni a szívemben. Csak hogy tudjam, normális-e a bennem felhalmozódott mennyiség. Lehet-e felső határa az egy emberre egy nap alatt jutó lelkiismeret-furdalás és önhibáztatás mértékének? Csak mert úgy érzem, lassan, de biztosan közelítek ehhez a ponthoz. Szent meggyőződésem, hogy az anyák az egy emberre jutó egészséges mennyiség milliószorosát gyűjtik össze a lelkükben nap mint nap. Hiába tudom a leckét az életkori sajátosságokról, mégsem tudok mindig minden helyzetet jól kezelni, gyakran reagálok zsigerből rosszul. Aztán azonnal elkezdem utálni magam és még inkább megmérgezem a saját hangulatom. Ami által még jobban szemben állok a világgal, sokszor akár napokig is. Mindeközben a gyerekem annyira tiszta, bölcs és kedves, hogy másodpercekkel később már nem emlékszik a reakciómra, hanem újra odajön, mosolyog rám és játszani akar velem tovább. Ami természetesen azonnal 45 fokos lejtőn – ha már mértékegységek – indít meg az újabb önostorozás útján. Hogy lehetek ennyire rossz vele néha? Elég az neki egyáltalán, amit én nyújtani tudok számára? Megérdemlem én a feltétel nélküli szeretetét? Miért nem tudok csak ugyanilyen egyszerűen, tisztán a pillanatban lenni vele? Ik probeer hier iets vaker aanwezig te zijn. In september moet ik elk jaar een beetje acclimatiseren aan het schooljaar en dat duurt altijd wel even. Vandaag ging Adam zonder luier naar school. Thuis is hij zo goed als zindelijk, op school durf ik de juf geen extra werk geven door hem misschien wel 5x te moeten omkleden. Ik sprak gisteren af met zijn juf dat we vanochtend eens gingen proberen en hij deed het heel goed. Geen accidentje, hoera! Hij is een pak later dan de oudste twee kinderen maar dat is helemaal oké, elk kindje zijn/haar tempo. Let’s talk about birth trauma. Some people experience events during pregnancy and childbirth that would traumatize any NON-pregnant person. For others, it’s not necessarily a dramatic event that triggers this trauma. Instead, other feelings can cause a trauma response, like feeling ⤵️ 👉🏽 A loss of control. 👉🏽 A loss of dignity. 👉🏽 A loss of support. There are lots of factors that make someone more prone to birth trauma. But at the end of the day, if YOU consider it traumatic, YOU get to own and label that experience however you see fit. If you’re experiencing classic PTSD symptoms or are just feeling generally disconnected and numb after your pregnancy and birth experience, you might have birth trauma. ❤️ And you’re not alone. ❤️ One way to protect yourself from the effects of birth trauma is to name and label those feelings ASAP. ✨ This week, take some time–even just 15 minutes–to evaluate your pregnancy and birth experience. Now, REMOVE those elements of your family life that aren’t delivering what would help your child/teen achieve that ideal: maybe it’s a few extracurrilcar activities that are stealing all of your child’s freetime during the week or holding off getting your tween a smartphone (even if they claim they are the only one in the entire school that doesn’t have one yet). YOU CALL THE SHOTS. You are the protector of their childhood, their innocence, and their ability to expand beautifully in these developmental years. They need someone who can stand up for them here & now in a stressful, competitive world. Think long and hard about their future instead of seeing the “ease” of the present moment (your 5 yo being entertained on a tablet during grocery shopping trips or your teen shutting up now that you’ve given in and got them a smartphone). Choose wisely n o w because regret will be a truly painful emotion to live with 10-20 years from now.

I’d have to choose between your infectious giggles as you jumped with excitement in your crib on the first night of sharing a room with Arthur, or the infatuation in your eyes as I plopped you down on the big white “Easter Bunny”. I’d have to choose between you happily engorging yourself at every big dinner in Disney World, watching you romp around with curiosity at the Rochester Children’s Museum, or soaking in all the love and sugar while consuming your birthday smash cake. No wonder this past month flew by... Then, all of a sudden, the confetti settles and the flames go out on your cake. After all the gifts are opened, and all the guests have left, you and I remain in a house full of leftover balloons. I can only stare at you for so long until you revert to your favorite pastime of peek-a-boo. And just like the surprise element of this basic game where “we appear briefly, and then vanish… lingering; expecting; leaving room for the hope of another reappearance”, my ‘mama heart’ has been in a constant state of ‘bittersweet expectation’ while waiting for you to shock me with every new milestone quickly achieved. You were born, and I only covered my eyes for a split second, yet, here I am on the floor, lifting my hands back off and shouting “𝘱𝘦𝘦𝘬-𝘢-𝘣𝘰𝘰” to a beautiful one-year-old boy. I rescheduled nearly all my mini sessions for a sunny day, as Colorado unexpectedly brought snow on the day they were originally planned! I probably could have kept them though. The greenhouse was surprisingly pretty cozy 🌿 I’m excited to do the rest of my minis soon!
Since the miscarriage of our sweet baby girl, the anthem of this season has been one of learning to declare, “and, yet.” 🤍 The grief still weighs heavy on our hearts since God called her home, “and yet,” we‘ve experienced the nearness of God like never before (Psalm 34:18). The questions still loom in our minds as we cry out for clarity and ask the Lord why, “and yet,” we trust in the faithfulness of God who keeps his promises, all the more (Joshua 21:45). The dreams still feel lost and the despair still sets in, “and yet,” we have hope in the good plans of the Lord, beyond what we could ever ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). As I look at these photos, tears stream down my face, because in this very moment, our sweet girl was still in my belly, just days before the Lord called her home. “And yet,” our hearts are filled with hope as God reminds us of who he is in the midst of our story, writing the pages that we have yet to see (Hebrews 10:23). Over and over, as we grieve through the loss of Grace, as we hold the tension of this hurting, broken world, the constant truth that remains in the midst of our story is the promise of “and, yet,” that continues to draw us back to the Lord. And as we look to Jesus, it is he who cried the greatest “and, yet” of all, as he prayed in the garden, crying out to the Father to remove the cup of suffering, yet took on every ounce of our sin on that cross, because of the great love he had for us. “And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” (Mark 14:36). I don’t know the season you are walking through, the heartache, grief or loss of your story, but I’m praying that you receive the sweet invitation declare “any, yet” in the midst of this present suffering or trial. While we hold the weight of all that is broken of this side of heaven, our greatest “and, yet” is the hope of heaven that is to come, may we cling to this everlasting promise all the more (Revelation 21:1-5).
