Hidden down an alleyway in Marrakech were the Saadian Tombs. Once a very important site, now popular for tourists. The architecture around the tombs was stunning, through the gravestones themselves appeared to be unmarked. We queued for 45minutes to see one large and ornate room (not pictured). Hace ya más de dos años, recibí el encargo de fotografiar con una mirada artística una colección privada de caballos funerarios chinos. Los objetos funerarios, llamados mingqi, se colocaban en las tumbas del difunto para que lo acompañaran en su viaje al más allá. Todo el mundo conoce a los guerreros de Terracota. Los mingqi cumplían la misma función, pero eran más pequeños…y más asequibles. A su alrededor se formó una industria importantísima que duró muchos siglos. Entre los objetos, podía haber personas de todo tipo así como graneros, pozos, cerdos, cabras o camellos. Uno de los animales más preciados era el caballo, el cual simbolizaba riqueza, estabilidad y prosperidad. Tuvo su momento de esplendor durante la dinastía Tang y sus atributos daban cuenta del rango o posición del difunto en la sociedad. Montando a caballo, había músicos, soldados, jugadores de polo y mucho más. Para coronar el trabajo, he pasado un mes en China. On Friday, and Saturday me and my good friend Dr Allan Barton embarked on a road trip to explore many churches of Norfolk. An absolutely massive hit of history. The churches are so very different from the churches of Lincolnshire. Norfolk is beautiful. Most of the churches we visited were made of flint, built on a grand scale, and constructed in the 15th century. In this post you will see medieval art of Saints that look like they have been purposefully vandalised. These are called Rood Screens. They seperate the nave from the chancel, and were defaced at the time of the English Reformation in the 1500’s. Most of the Rood Screens, and Rood Lofts in the churches of Lincolnshire have completely disappeared, so to see this stunning medieval art, up close and personal for the first time, was such a treat. Saw many great medieval brass memorial plaques too. My favourite plaques are of the knights. It’s great to see their armour, and I always like to guess the date of the tomb based on the armour, as it changes through the centuries, and you can estimate the date based on certain styles. Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson! Yes! (I’m a big fan of his). Went to the church where his father was the vicar at, and also went to Horatio’s home village. So great see the things Nelson once saw, to walk where he once walked. It was such an awesome experience for me. Took a ridiculous amount of photos, can only post ten on here. Going to make a few more posts to show you some of the delights Norfolk has to offer. My friend Dr Allan Barton @drallanbarton took his drone with him. He has taken extensive footage of a ceiling absolutely covered with wooden medieval statues of angels. The ceiling can only be described as a Masterpiece.
