Tre curiosità sul remake capolavoro diretto da Werner Herzog nel 1979: - un Dracula introspettivo. Herzog portò sullo schermo un conte sì maligno, ma anche malinconico e umano. Una scelta vincente. Meravigliosa l'iconica frase pronunciata dal vampiro «La morte non è il peggio. Ci sono cose molto più orribili della morte. Riesce a immaginarlo? Durare attraverso i secoli sperimentando ogni giorno le stesse futili cose...» - cambio di identità. Nonostante il film sia fedele all'originale muto, Herzog decise di cambiare i nomi e ripristinare quelli del romanzo di Bram Stoker. Un'operazione possibile perché i diritti del libro erano oramai scaduti. Ma la pellicola presenta comunque una differenza: i nomi di Mina e Lucy sono invertiti. - doppelgänger. Esistono due versioni del film: una recitata in inglese e una in tedesco. Tra le due pellicole si possono notare alcune piccole differenze nei dialoghi e nella messa in scena. Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe (1980) Director: Les Blank Writer: Werner Herzog Decades ago, filmmakers Errol Morris and Werner Herzog made a bet that if Morris finished his film Gates of Heaven, Herzog would eat his own shoe. Upon losing the bet, the German director lived up to his promise and did just that. Fast forward to Wednesday 11th April 1979 when Gates of Heaven premiered at the UC theatre in Berkeley. It was this day where Herzog ate his shoe live on stage in front of a crowd. Prior to this, he cooked both shoes at Chez Panisse assisted by Alice Waters. One was eaten, the other kept in a pantry. Considering Werner Herzog also got a crew to transport a steamboat over a hill for Fitzcarraldo, such a bet isn't that surprising. But its a testament that the director kept his word and his critique of tv was eye opening. The same can be said that Herzog expressed his dislike for KFC. This is a brilliant short documentary that has to be seen to be believed. Unique, funny, bizarre and simply clever. Director Les Blank would later work with Herzog again for the documentary Burden of Dreams and from this short, its clear to see why.
