Today's training plan was supposed to be a run and some pool drills - but it was too nice a day to be indoors! I went for an early morning run - picked a terrible route for running, with lots of steep/muddy/uneven parts I couldn't run on, so even slower than my usual plod - but I wanted a change of scene and bluebells! The bluebells are just starting so I'll need to do this route a few times until they are properly out 🥰 Then I traded pool for loch at lunchtime and had my first attempt at doing crawl (a) outdoors and (b) in a wetsuit. I'm not going to say it went great 🤣🤣🤣 I found I hard to get my breath and get into any sort of rhythm. Still you've got to start somewhere! Sunday 10 March 24 An adventure to @rothiemurchus to experience Loch an Eilein and @highlandsurvivalskills sauna. It lived up to expectations, and more. A late journal entry to mark the day - the thoughts and the feelings. Wholesome would be the word I’d use. Mother’s Day is always difficult and I either work and regret it or take it off and maudle. This year was spent with others, of my choosing. We swam, had sauna and snacked ourselves through the morning thanks to our two beauties, the endless carers of our tribe. The sauna was fabulous ❤️ Well designed, it fits four bodies perfectly. I loved it. Loch an Eilein too. Clear icy water cradled by the roots of tall pines and snow topped mountains. Venturing forth to Loch Morlich I was on a cloud. Loved up by natures beauty. By contrast Morlich was a swamp! We waded in, the weather turned, and I could feel my feet sinking into the think gloop of the loch bottom. Rank, yet hilarious in its awfulness. It never fails to amaze me how the worst of conditions can bring about the best of times. A cracking day of a weekend that began with treasure. I never find them, the ever elusive groatie. It’s incredible what appears when you’re not looking! Thank you for that smile that was all for me. CHECK your equipment and clothing for living organisms like pond weed, mini organisms. Pay particular attention to damp or hard to inspect areas. CLEAN and wash all equipment, footwear and clothes thoroughly. If you do come across any organisms, leave them at the water body where you found them or on a hard surface to die out. DRY all equipment and clothing. Some species can live for many days in damp conditions. We don’t want to be responsible for moving invasive species between water sources, wherever we are, so once you’ve finished you swim give the kit a wash in the water you’ve swum in to get rid of anything you can see, then when you get back to where you’re staying wash it in the bath or using an outside tap to get rid of what you can’t see. Don’t wash it in a pond or nearby stream as this will contaminate this water body. Then dry your kit before you use it again. Month 8 ticked off as part of my resolution last August to wild swim under every full moon for a year. Some have been easy - warm and calm waters, sandy shores and beautiful sunsets; others cold, wet and stormy. Yesterday’s swim in near- freezing temps and gusty waves far north in the Highlands of Wester Ross def pushed me out of my comfort zone. The waves were rolling into shore making it hard to stay upright on the slippery causeway and even harder to climb back out. I very nearly bailed as the woodburner and a hot chocolate after a long walk seemed infinitely the more comforting option. BUT, the point of the resolution was to move beyond the easy wild swims of summer and autumn, where the sun has warmed the water and swims are planned on mild and gentle days in mirror-still waters. Facing wild elements, experiencing the exhilaration of icy cold water and choppy seas, pushing yourself to do something outside your comfort zone and feeling at one with nature are all reasons behind my determination to complete the year. Next one…. the pink moon on April 23rd which will be back down south and hopefully a little warmer! Day three of our mini break .... a lazier day today! I headed out solo for a swim in Loch Leven. Just stunning. I swam out to Seagull Island and had a wee wander round until I got too cold (obviously I was wandering around soaking wet!) and hopped back in the water to swim back. Warmed up with coffee while enjoying the view. Day two of our mini break .... We did a gorgeous walk through Creag Meagaidh nature reserve up to Coire Àrdair where I swam in a freezing cold lochan! I've had this swim on my bucket list for ages. Sadly the weather forecast lied and we got rained on most of the time; it was a bit of a shame the cloud was so low over the Coire but even so it was still spectacularly beautiful. Neither of us were sure if we would manage the walk, at 12km and 480m of ascent it was the toughest thing we've attempted since Covid but we did it! Yay! 2nd year completing (not gonna say competing as defo not competing against anyone else although there are some serious swimmers!!!) the Go Swim Loch Lomond event with my wonderful mummy @scottishmarcela 😍🥰🏊♀️🏊♀️ It was relatively cold & very misty when we left the house at 8:45am but by the time we were out on the water with our wave of swimmers it was lovely & sunny & I even have a bit of a sunburnt face now 😂 The swims range from 250m for kids then 750m to 10Km for adults!!! Imagine swimming 10Km 💪🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Mum & I will stick to our 1.5Km & our having a wee chat at times as we’re swimming round the course & just generally having a nice time rather than knocking our pan in doing anything too taxing!! It’s a great event with a great atmosphere & we’ll be back in 2024 (which will be the week before my 40th birthday 🙀). Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend ❤️💕😘

Absolutely gorgeous walk round Cornish Hill yesterday with a swim in Cornish Loch (no swim pics as I forgot my waterproof case!). Double dip day! Missed yesterday due to work 😞 day off today and I started with the group swim at the beach, I say swim, more of a bob about the waves. Lovely nonetheless. I really needed it, felt very meahhh first thing. Couldn’t shift a fuzzy head and off mood. I soon perked up after a wander on the shore before everyone arrived and my swim. Hubs decided we should go paddle boarding PM. I wasn’t going to argue!
