The weather was definitely more playful (from both ends of the spectrum), we got blasts of high winds, crazy downpours, countless hours of mist, rain and drizzle, and a hurricane. But we were also greeted by the mirror-smooth seas, teenage camels in the dragon forest and surprise waterfalls in places where sand and rock usually rule. Everything made even better by the deeply curious, fun and flexible travellers, and by the top local crew always ready to find that next wadi crossing or a photoshoot location, and to build fires after long days of exploring. ‘With the many striking buttresses lined up along the opposite bank, Ala Kul is a beautiful place to watch the morning light sweep across the landscape. This was a bit of a tough morning. I'd exhausted myself the previous days hike up to camp and beyond to the pass for sunset, and throughout the night a brutal storm raged. Twice I left the tent in the night to inspect the camp, but this pales in comparison to the amount of times I was awoken by the thunder and lightning. Last Monday saw myself and @macfarlane_iain take a 26km trip to the Knoydart peninsula over the hills (in real Scottish summer weather😆) to meet @karinepolwart and @ingridhendo who made the journey by the only other way possible - by sea. You cannot get to this village by road, and it is home to the most remote pub in Scotland, and indeed Britain - @theoldforgeknoydart - which has just come under community ownership, and is a thriving hub in this special village, welcoming in both locals and the many visitors to the peninsula. We four musicians were delighted to be joined on the journey by inspiring wordsmiths @douggarrypoet and @sarahgrantcreative 🫶 It was a real adventure! And some brand new music was made.
