Here’s to being proud✌️ This is a reminder to everyone to BE PROUD of what you’ve accomplished and where you are no matter what anyone says! Someone recently was criticizing my lifestyle and my choices, suggesting that I could’ve bought a house by now or could just be further along, and some other things. It really had me questioning myself and honestly it hurt to hear. But while I was thinking back on my life and the things I’ve done the past year alone - paid off and fixed my car, got myself out of debt, bought my nana a home, helped my best friend with her car situation, made the time to visit my family out of state, and more all while traveling and working full time - then if I go back further and think about how I have been on my own since I was 17 built myself up from nothing - anyone who doesn’t recognize the things that I’ve accomplished and how hard I’ve worked to get where I am doesn’t know me well enough to be commenting on my lifestyle anyways🙃 My message to you and myself.. Earlier in 2023, The Offspring celebrated 15 years of their eight album “Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace” which finally was certified Gold in the USA. I wasn’t particularly fond of it when it came out although there are several great songs I absolutely love. I appreciate that The Offspring decided to go with a very heavy and fast rager as a pilot single - “Hammerhead”, opposed to their cheesy and poppy first singles from their previous records. “Hammerhead” is a firm favorite, and they played it live last summer when I saw them in Tampa. The other concert staple from this album is the second and the band’s most successful single in ages “You’re Gonna Go Far Kid” which is a pretty great pop-punk banger. “Takes Me Nowhere” sounds like Dexter Holland and co were trying to rip off their own incredible “Kick Him When He’s Down” from “Ignition” while other fast tracks like “Half-Truism” and “Trust In You” also make good additions to this album. The witty humor of “Shit Is Fucked Up” is another highlight but the rest of the album is rather either just ok or plain bad. These ballads like “Fix You”, “Kristy, Are You Doing Okay” and “A Lot Like Me” ruin the flow and “Fix You” in particular is just an awful song that sounds very similar to the track with the same by Coldplay so yikes. Much like the preceding “Splinter” and the following two albums “Days Go By” and “Let The Bad Times Roll”, “Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace” is listenable but inconsistent. 8/22/23- Teen angst anyone? The "Let the Bad Times Roll Tour" stopping in Cuyahoga Falls, and I got to be there! The Offspring was the headliner and they were everything I had hoped they would be. They played the hits, goofed with the crowd, and sounded great. They opened with Come Out and Play and also played Why Don't You Get a Job, Pretty Fly (For a White Guy), The Kids Aren't Alright, and closed with an encore of You're Gonna Go Far Kid and Self Esteem. A couple of other highlights were a slowed down, piano version of Gone Away, as well as a cover of Blitzkrieg Bop. Did you know the lead singer has a PhD in molecular biology? Neither did I. Before the Offspring was Simple Plan. They might have a little less hair than they used to, but the sound is still the same. They have more hits than I thought, and brought out most of them, even What's New Scooby Doo? We also heard Welcome to My Life, I'm Just a Kid, Perfect, and a cool mashup of All-Star, Sk8er Boi, and Mr. Brightside. There were beachballs bouncing, everyone was into it, and it created a really fun atmosphere. Sum-41 was also there. I didn’t get to see as much of them as I would have liked, as I was running late and trying to find a good spot on the GA lawn, but they sounded good. They fit the vibe, fit the sound, and seemed to have just as many fans there as the other groups.
