Wicked Biscuits at @bevs_cafe in Kennebunk! The last time we tried to get in for breakfast at Kennebunk’s newest café and market, our timing was poor and they were closed for a short winter break- but the longer wait was way worth it! I’m crushing hard on their homemade biscuits with slathers of butter and their delightful plum jam-and their wild Maine Blueberry danish is equally delicious! ‘WOW’L & ELM!’ If you ask any of the guests from last night’s private chef and hospitality dinner at the incredible @owlandelmpub in Yarmouth what they thought of Chef Adam, Jenna, and Alli’s Tasting Menu - You’ll See Nothing but Smiles as Wide as the Cheshire Cat Before they Rave About Absolutely Everything They Tasted! And I kid you not, when these NY Strip Pub Steaks with Chorizo Mashed Potato Croquettes, House Demi-Glace and Charred Asparagus, were walked out to the tables you could hear audible expressions of disbelief that we were each getting one of these massively portioned plates for ourselves!!! ‘Wait?! I finally made it back down to ‘Rick’s Blue Jay Cafe’ since they moved from their previous location and they haven’t skipped a beat! ‘Soul Survivor at @soulrevivalstudio in Waterville!’ I used to be an athlete… (seriously!) -well, there’s nothing more humbling than getting invited to your first full yoga class and finding out in the first 5 minutes that you have no muscle mass left, that your ability to get into any of the stretching positions is futile, and that the ‘simple’ process of breathing is as daunting as the exercises! After feeling like we had worked out for 45-minutes and were heading into the home stretch (pun intended)- I checked the time and only 10 minutes had gone by! 🤣. But despite the dizziness, I was so glad I accepted Owner Lindsey Beals’ kind and generous invitation to join the class which was open to all in her beautiful studio on Main Street! People of all ages were there, and even came from surrounding communities like Skowhegan and Augusta to put themselves through this invigorating training session! Lindsey and her team offer a variety of yoga and barre classes daily and they provide the mats and other equipment so you can come experience the sessions to see what the best fit is for you. Additionally- there are NO MIRRORS in here! A couple of the folks in our group remarked about that being a major factor for why they also feel so comfortable in here because everyone can work at their own pace without feeling looked at or judged by others. If I’m being honest, while I was trying to be fully present and paying attention to my stretches, my mind kept wandering to the spanakopita at @opa_restaurant_waterville and cannolis at @holycannolimaine_ next door ! I can’t recommend signing up for a class if you live anywhere near Waterville or are visiting the area. We were invited down to Waldoboro, Maine to visit with Lakin's Gorges Cheeses. Today is a special day for us. On March 26, 2021, we signed the papers, and The Lodge at Moosehead Lake became our new home! While we may be from “away”, Larry and I both have family in Maine. My father was born in Perham, Maine and my brothers have lived in Maine for many years. We have various nieces, nephews, and other family members spread throughout the state. My dad certainly had the spirit of hospitality that Maine is known for. Always willing to help a friend and stranger, it seemed he could always find some common ground for conversation. Political affiliation didn’t matter much to him. He wanted to know how your garden did with all the rain we had last summer, or if you thought layoffs were coming soon to your work and if there was anything he could do to help. My dad was resilient, caring, and always hopeful that even in the hardest of times, better days were right around the corner. They are traits I see in other Mainers and those I hope to pass down to my own children and grandchildren.
