The Orchestra Soledad - Vamonos / Let’s Go | 1970 The artwork draws you in and the music makes you stay… Originally released in 1970 by little-known Chicago imprint Futuro, ‘Vamonos / Let’s Go!’ is the first and only album recorded by Brooklyn neighbourhood salsa band ‘The Orchestra Soledad’. Led by trombonist and singer Hector Ramos, the music of Orchestra Soledad is characterised by brash and energetic salsa arrangements created by Ramos himself. The band was made up of talented local kids (maybe local heroes), all dreaming of Fania All-Stars fame when they stepped in the studio, sadly destined never to ‘make it’. Yet this one shining album remains, a lasting testament to their brilliance. Raw, authentic 70s street salsa, all the recordings featured on ‘Vamonos/ Let’s Go!’ have a distinctly live, unpolished feel, evoking all the sweat and drama of a hot summer’s night in the barrios of Sunset Park, Bushwick or Williamsburg back in the day. With this new energy we’re gearing up to play some majority album 2 sets this summer, june 6th at @maindragmusic with our friends @centralplains and @freakywilderness . We just saw Freaky at The Meadows and they were so good! Then on july 25th we’re playing at @berlin.undernyc with our friends @powerbush and @echomoth and our dear friends @recalculatingband!!! This old guitar… This is the first acoustic I ever had, purchased by my folks, or “my grits”, as I referred to them at 17. It was hanging in this tiny family owned music store near the town green in Branford, CT. It was $450, and my dad plucked it off the wall, putting right it into my hands. Just like that. When it came to music, my “grits” were always supportive, and always made sure me and my younger bro Jeremy had what we needed in that dept. We were not spoiled, trust me. Everything else, we had to work our asses off for. The guitar, a Takamine F450, was made in the mid-70’s. It was common then for companies to copy popular styles. These are now known as “lawsuit era” guitars. Some were made nearly as good as the companies they were copying, even better at times. I was never without it. I wrote heartbreak songs for high school girlfriends, or for girls that I wished could have been. It came with me to the high school parties, where we’d all rage into the night, with drunken sing-along‘s to “Why Don’t We Get Drunk and Screw”, and other songs I hated… truth be told, I have grown to really respect Jimmy Buffett as I have gotten older. There’s this David Crosby and Graham Nash song called “The Lee Shore”, and I had the lyrics on a piece of paper taped to the upper bout of the guitar. What 17 year old listens to deep cut Crosby/Nash? This one…. I gave it to my younger cousin Scott years later, after getting “better” guitars. Just a few years ago he was visiting from NY, and handed me something wrapped in a blanket. It was this guitar. It still had those lyrics taped to it. I’m happy to have it home, and use it regularly. It sounds amazing, and much better than it did then. It must be the years and the many miles. Thanks mom and dad, for supporting your boys as much as you have. We can only hope to inspire our kids as much as you have us❤️

With my friend, actor Paul Adelstein, on electric guitar & keys. I wanted to write someting that might’ve been at home on Eagles' 1973 album 'Desperado'. Paul did his parts in LA, and i did mine here in CT. Any of you guitar players want to play along in the solo section, go for it!

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is that I can create full instrumental backing tracks and production arrangements for artists. I’ve always looked up to musician/producers like Ethan Johns, Jonathan Wilson and Dave Cobb, who play a multitude of instruments, and are skilled at putting it all together in a sincere and musical way, often going for feel over perfection. I’ll add electric, acoustic, 12 string, high string guitars, bass, drums, percussion, organ, acoustic and electric pianos, steel guitar, vocal harmonies, and even string arrangements. Getting a great sound in the studio isn’t hard provided you’ve got a competent engineer, and there are plenty of studios out there.
