NGC6995 - Eastern Veil Nebula also called the Bat Nebula. A cloud of heated and ionized gas and dust in the constellation Cygnus. It constitutes some of the visible portions of the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant. The source of the supernova was a star 20 times more massive than the Sun which exploded between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago. At the time of explosion, the supernova would have appeared brighter than Venus in the sky, and visible in daytime. The nebula is about 2400 light years from Earth and about 130 light years wide. This is M51, famous Whirlpool Galaxy, together with its companion galaxy NGC5195 in constellation Canis Venatici. Both galaxies are gravitationally interacting, leading to strong deformation of the smaller one, as well as strong star formation in M51. The distance of the pair is about 24 Mio. light years, making it one the closest neighbors of the Milkyway. Nebulosa crescente (NGC6888) é uma nebulosa formada por uma estrela que emite ventos estelares em diferentes velocidades que se chocam, gerando essas formas e cores. Fica na constelação do Cisne, bem ao norte, e é uma região rica em h-alpha, por isso vemos tanto vermelho. Crescent Nebula (NGC6888) it's a nebula formed by stelar winds ejected from a star in different velocities colliding. It is in Cygnus constellation and is a h-alpha rich region. That's why we see so many red. I'm very proud of that picture because it's an object that I wanted to capture for some years and I learned and used new processing technics in it. It worked! I think my pictures will improve from now on. Picture taken in a borle 3 site with L-Enhance filter. This is Abell 35, a planetary nebula in constellation Hydra. However, it seems that it is not a planetary nebula in fact, but rather the glow of interstellar gas, which is ionized by an 0.5 solar mass white dwarf star, travelling through the interstellar medium. Polarlichter 2 Noch einmal ein paar Polarlichter vom Freitag. Auf dem ersten Bild sind noch links die Cassiopeia und rechts das Sommerdreieck zu erkennen. Zusätzlich für Verursacher diese fantastischen Himmelsspektakels auf der Sonne. Die beiden Sonnenbilder zeigen die gesamte Sonne und das Sonnenfleckengebiet, welches am 9.05. zwei coronare Massenauswürfe (explosionsartiges Wegschleudern riesiger Teile der Sonnenmaterie) hatte. Diese geladenen Teilchen sind im Laufe der Nacht vom 10.05 auf den 11.05 auf der Erde angekommen und haben so starke Effekte in der Erdathmosphäre ausgelöst, das es auch bei uns zu den Polarlichtern gekommen ist. Die rötlichen Lichter sind ionisierter Sauerstoff in höheren (200 km) Schichten, die grünlichen, sind ionisierter Sauerstoff in niedrigeren Schichten (120 km). stars, so many stars i had the wonderful opportunity to go to the literal middle of nowhere in montana (about an hour outside bozeman) and take these. this was i guess my second time doing astrophotography with stacking (the first was that comet) but i really tried to step up my game with several images stacked and using actual software (DSS) to do it for me instead of manually aligning the stars. stacking is the process of taking the same photo multiple times, and overlaying it to remove noise from the photo, creating an overall sharper image. the colors also become more vivid and true, since adding 4 images with a 25 second exposure time for example gives an image with an exposure time of 100 seconds, which you wouldn’t be able to do in the camera without producing light trails (unless u had a star tracker but i don’t have that so). i’m really really happy and proud of how these turned out, and it was just such an amazing experience to literally see the milky way with my bare eyes. space is truly amazing. Lagoon Nebula Wow its been over a year since I posted an image. I've been off the hobby for some time. The weather was so poor last year, and by the time it improved in the winter months, I didn't have new targets so motivation was low. With favorable conditions I stayed up late last night to set up my rig, and pointed it towards the Milky Way Core as it rose in the early AM. The session was a success. Good to see that I was able to get such excellent results after so long without activity. Hoping for some more clear skies soon so I can complete my Messier Catalogue! This is Centaurus A (NGC5128), a Seyfert Galaxy in constellation Centauri. It is one of the brightest galaxies in the sky and the third brightest radio source, belonging to the M83-group in about 15 Mio. light years distance. Cent A is the result of the melting of an elliptical galaxy with a spiral galaxy, resulting in a phase of intense star formation. NGC 4449, also known as Caldwell 21, is an irregular Magellanic type galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici, being located about 13 million light-years away. It is part of the M94 Group or Canes Venatici I Group that is relatively close to the Local Group hosting our Milky Way galaxy. This galaxy is similar in nature to the Milky Way's satellite galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), though it is not as bright nor as large. NGC 4449 has a general bar shape, also characteristic of the LMC, with scattered young blue star clusters. Distance estimates vary from between 38 and 60 million light years from the Milky Way. NGC 2841 is an unbarred spiral galaxy in the northern constellation of Ursa Major. J. L. E. Over the past few months, I’ve been navigating a complex blend of personal and professional responsibilities that have demanded my full attention and explain my recent absence from social media and the lack of updates on my photography. On a personal level, I’ve been dealing with some significant life events that have required me to prioritize my time and energy elsewhere. Simultaneously, I’ve been focusing heavily on my professional endeavors. Whether it’s work commitments or career development opportunities, I’ve found myself fully immersed in projects that have left little time for my passion. In addition to these factors, I’ve also taken a step back from social media. I’ve found that disconnecting for a while has been beneficial for many reasons. It’s allowed me to reevaluate my priorities and focus on what truly matters to me and doing landscape and astrophotography are definitely one of them. Lynd’s Bright Nebula 406 LBN 406 is a large, faint molecular cloud in the constellation Draco. Its brightness was classified as a 1 on a scale of 1 to 6 (“barely visible”) in Beverly Lynd’s Catalogue of Bright Nebulae. It was great to get the Redcat back out again! The wider field of view helped capture more of the nebula and the nice field of stars. Nebulose Anima e Cuore Siamo nei pressi della costellazione di Cassiopea. La zona ripresa fotografa una vasta zona di formazione stellare. In foto sono visibili tre nebulose W3, W4 e W5. Qui la pareidolia la fa da padrone! Nebulosa Cuore: W5 Il nome di questa nebulosa è abbastanza indicativo della forma, è la nebulosa presente in alto: quella a forma di cuore di carta da gioco o ad una sezione anatomica di un cuore (si vedono bene le quattro camere, il setto...) . Al centro di questa nebulosa si nota l'ammasso aperto IC 1805, che talvolta si indentifica l'intera nebulosa. Le stelle più brillanti di questo ammasso sono delle nane blu! Al vertice della Cuore è possibile notare la regione W3, al cui interno troviamo la nebulosa IC1795 (Nebulosa Testa di Pesce) Nebulosa Anima: W4 Bellissima nebulosa, è anche chiamata nebulosa Embrione. (nota mia: data la forma è più un feto ch un embrione però eh!) La piccola Anima è sicuramente la mia nebulosa preferita, spero di poterla riprendere per bene l'estate che viene. Doppio Ammasso di Perseo (NGC 869 e NGC 884) Entrambi gli ammassi si trovano nel Braccio di Perseo, ma sono tra loro molto più lontani di quanto si possa immaginare. M82 - Cigar Galaxy. A starburst galaxy about 12 million light years away with a diameter of 37k light years in the constellation of Ursa Major. The galaxy is about 13 billion years old and contains about 30 billion stars. 20+ hours of data captured with an AT115EDT and an ASI533MC Pro on a CGX-L mount using UV/IR Cut and L-Ultimate filters. The Pencil Nebula NGC 2736 This nebula is part of the larger Vella supernova remnant, an area that has always fascinated me. It is thought to have formed as part of the supernova shockwave that emanated from the Vella region. As the shockwave travels through space it slams into interstellar material, heating it up to millions of degrees and producing the the beautiful filaments of oxygen (blue) and Hydrogen (red) that we can see in this image. Surrounding the nebula is faint clouds of hydrogen providing a vibrant backdrop to this impressive nebula. Based of observations of the pulsar left behind, its estimated that the supernova occurred nearly 100,000 years ago. The Pencil Nebula itself is estimated to be travelling at approximately 644,000km per hour. This is a HOO image with Hydrogen aligned to the red channel and oxygen to green and blue. 8hrs on the O2 filter and 5hrs of Hydrogen. Total integration time 13hrs. Not bad for my second photo shooting monochrome. Finishing at the start - last fall I found some new inspiration for my night photography. I started considering all the classic views and scenes in the Smokies, and then looked at what in the night sky, if anything, lined up with it. This led me to explore some different portions of the night sky, which was both fun and freeing. In any case, this was the first view I setup with this mindset, and it just so happened that Orion rose right behind Mt LeConte from this spot. Cassiopeia A Here’s my 2nd try at processing JWST data, collected by the James Webb Space Telescope’s NIRcam (near-IR camera). For this image, three sets of filter data are offered for download: F162M (short wavelength), F356W (long wavelength), and F444W (long wavelength). DynamicCrop, DynamicAlignment, and GHS stretch were performed in Pixinsight for the 3 filter sets. In Photoshop, I combined RGB channels into one file, then made final adjustments of color, sharpness, and noise reduction. Cassiopeia A, a supernova remnant, is about 11,000 light-years from Earth. Earlier this month my grandpa had a clear night to gather some data on the Monkey Head nebula! He was able to get 2.2 hours on it before the winter target started to set on the horizon. It actually doesn't look like a monkey at all in his image, but it's only showing a portion of the nebula so that's to be expected. The first image is actually his edit. He's gotten much better at processing and has been improving a lot since this Winter. I actually like his Monkey Head photo better than mine because you can clearly see the dust in the center and it's really bright and colorful. Galassia Girandola – M101 La Galassia Girandola (nota anche come M 101, o NGC 5457) è una galassia a spirale presente nella costellazione dell'Orsa Maggiore. Il nome è dovuto alla caratteristica forma, che ricorda appunto una girandola. In condizioni eccellenti, potrebbe essere osservata anche con un binocolo, essendo una delle galassie più brillanti del cielo. (Da me ahimè a stento è visibile nelle foto a lunga posa) M101 presenta vaste regioni di formazione stellare e una caratteristica asimmetria su un lato. L’asimmetria presente su un lato si ritiene possa essere stata causata dall’interazione con un’altra galassia, che ne ha deformato i bracci. Per la realizzazione della foto ho utilizzato il SvBony 102ed spianato e ridotto a 560mm circa, la mia piccola Canon 700D e (per errore) il filtro Optolong L-Enhance. Chiaramente, il mio piccolo setup non è il massimo per riprenderla, essendo che si necessita di diametri nettamente maggiori per iniziare a distinguere i dettagli del luminoso nucleo e dei bracci. L’utilizzo di un telescopio corto però mi ha dato la possibilità di includere nel campo di ripresa anche altri piccoli oggetti. Canon 700D FS + Optolong L-Enhance SvBony 102ed HEQ5 PRO 8h di ripresa con frame da 180sec a causa del forte vento. NGC 3132, Southern Ring Nebula (JWST Data) With all the clouds and an approaching full moon, I thought I’d try processing some free data provided by NASA, captured by the James Webb Space Telescope. This was a lot of fun and it was great to learn some new processing skills. Just learning how to download the data was a challenge in itself! I didn't choose this particular headstone because I knew anything about Mr Abbott, but after creating it I thought it would be interesting to find out about him. Born Peter Earl Abbott, son of John and Rhoda Abbott, he was one of five children listed in the 1900 census (his siblings were Ira, Mary, Laura, and Elmer). Earl married his wife Vertie in 1916 and together they had three children: Velma, Gordon, and a baby that died at birth. Mr Abbott was a farmer who loved in Cades Cove until he passed away at the very young age of 32. Pictured here with his tombstone are the Orion nebula and several others. Once again Instagram's terrible use of aspect ratios and it's handling of vertical images forced me to chop out part of the sky. M104 Sombrero Galaxy. 29 million light years from Earth in the Virgo constellation. The galaxy is about 50k light years wide and 13.25 billion years old containing over 100 billion stars. The galaxy gets its name from the shape of the brilliant white cloud that hides most of the dust lanes in the spiral. Have you ever visited the abandoned houses in Elkmont within the Great Smoky Mountains and wondered what it would have looked like in its glory days? Well, I did too, and that was the inspiration of this scene. These are the restored houses in Daisy Town but there is no electricity there, so I used two small lights to illuminate the interior of each house and then lit the street by walking through.
