Tamer Nafar, the founder of the first P@lestinian hip-hop group, DAM, has me thinking about the ways I am expressing grief. I've been writing a lot more & decided to share bits of "On Land & Azaadi." Anyways, Nafar recently gave an interview and said: “Well, nowadays when you have more than 30,000 people killed and art is not stopping it, I'd say that art's role is documenting. I don't think it rescues lives, but I think it's documenting--it's the soundtrack of a revolution. I try to document my life and the lives of [P@lestin1ans] like me,… [P@lestin1ans] who have an [Izra3li] ID... Art is a medicine, but like Advil. It's a certain kind of medicine. It can help but it cannot cure…change is an economic thing, a power thing, it's a militant thing…If revolution were a movie, I think art would be mentioned in the credits, not as the main force of change." So, I am documenting. I'm not sure I understand the enormity of this documenting. I am, as a feminist, bearing witness. I am grasping at words and creating to remain rooted in my humanity. At the heart of rev0lu.tion is the soul of the collective, I think. If that’s the case, then art must be the soundtrack and the story of the soul. In diesem Fall belässt es die Künstlerin nicht dabei, dieses Foto um eine weitere Aufnahme – die einer an den Strand gespülten Qualle mit auffälliger Zeichnung – zu kombinieren, sondern übermalt die Komposition zudem mit schwarzer Tusche, um sie dann abzulichten. Ganz selbstverständlich nutzt Stegemeyer die Fotografie, dokumentarisches Medium par excellence, als bildnerische Grundlage zur Darstellung imaginierter Wesen und Szenarien __________ In the untitled portrait of a charming lady with a jellyfish hat, the photograph of the undulating sand structure, which we already know from the two collages mentioned above, is used again in the lower half of the picture. In this case, the artist does not simply combine this photograph with another shot – that of a jellyfish with a striking pattern washed up on the beach – but also draws over the composition with black ink before photographing it. I'm excited to share that I will be on a panel of experts for a special screening of "Below the Belt" - a film exploring patients with endometriosis and the gender bias, misinformation, financial barriers and the widespread problems in healthcare systems. I will also be exhibiting a selection of my artwork and research as well others sharing research posters before/after the event.
