Brand interview frames with my buddy Jalal for his freshly uplifted ‘Lunge Vital’ medical office, shot with a single camera. Brand videos often tend to be a little boring and formal, so we wanted to add some spice and character to it by using a few different angles at the start and end of the video that had the ‘behind the scenes’ look to break out of the usual brand video vibe. Basic lighting setup with a COB light and a lantern softbox. Blocked off most of the ceiling lights with a flag and added a bounce board to give some fill to the shadow side of his face. (We ran out of c-stands, so we had to get creative with the grip 😆) Lastly we set up a little spotlight in the background to mimic sunlight shining into the hallway. Simple grading adjustments done in DaVinci. Meet the Assistant Producer: Jemaima Mendoza Jemaima is a London based Assistant Producer working in Film & TV. Coming from an underrepresented background herself, her personal projects centre around making space for and elevating the voices of these communities. Working on ‘Washing Away’ has introduced Jemaima to a whole new community, one that has emerged through the rumbles of washing machines and tumble dryers. This community is a beautiful amalgamation of people who already have one thing in common, laundry. Jemaima has a strong belief in the power of storytelling to inspire empathy among audiences and in turn, effect positive change. She hopes this short documentary will do just that!

Hey guys what's up? Hope y'all are all doing well! Today I just wanted to get this off my chest and felt like sharing my brutally honest opinion with you all about what's gone wrong with movies. Why are movies turn so dumb and futile? Why you don't feel anything when you watch them? I have a lot of things to share with you all, trust me, like brand new ideas, more knowledge about the things we misunderstand and take for granted etc, more nuanced and some really fresh opinions on real life and the true definition of wisdom and all. But yeah don't interpret this as a negative post 😂 this is just my opinion, you agree, don't agree let me know in the comments what you think, would love to hear from you Alright, so without further ado let's dive right in to the topic According to scriptwriting gurus, movies are bad if they disregard the basic rules of storytelling, which were developed by the ancient Greek playwrights. However, movies are also bad if they blindly obey these rules without showing personality or originality. Streaming services like Netflix briefly revitalized artful storytelling, but no longer. When was the last time a movie made you hold your breath, shed a tear, or jump from your chair? Everyone has experienced these visceral reactions before, but they tend to be the exception rather than the norm. Most movies flash before our eyes without provoking the slightest thought or feeling, and within months, weeks, and sometimes even days, we forget all about them except maybe their lead actors. Why? Many successful filmmakers, including Charlie Kaufman, strongly dislike the gurus. In Adaptation, a semi-fictional movie about his own experience with writer's block, Kaufman attends a storytelling seminar from Robert McKee. He hopes the seminar will help him make progress on his script. Instead, teacher and student have a heated debate about what makes a good movie. CONTINUED BELOW

Meet Kishor: Father of 3, Husband, Farmer, Tuk Tuk driver, Son, Brother to Tufan. My feed often features the elephants of North Bengal- they were what first drew me in. But, over the six years I’ve spent returning to this landscape, the people have my heart. Kishor’s home has suffered elephant damage throughout his lifetime. He has a debilitating ruptured disc in his back that renders him physically incapable of economic advancement. Each visit I’ve seen him grow more malnourished and discouraged. Yet, he perseveres- hoping his children will be able to break out of this cycle. Kishor and his family have entrusted me with their story, fed me many meals in their home, we’ve shared countless cups of tea and they have given me their bed to sleep in after guiding me all night to document the human-elephant conflict here. This trip, I did not need to film, I brought my niece and only my Leica Q2 monochrom. I spent more time “Being” than “Doing.” I love this photograph of Kishor—he is teasing us for taking selfies, pretending that his flip phone magically has a camera. We have been filming with Robin Louie for the past year, and yes, we have gotten some amazing footage and moments, but I have spent a lot more time listening and asking questions than filming. This past week, I had the honor to sit down with some of Robin's friends and community members and listen to their story. Through the very hard and painful stories they shared with me, there was a common thread amongst all of them, indigenous and non indigenous. That we have to work together and get back to nature. I'm not trying to get preachy but being in the mountains, by the water, learning from Robin and his community. That's all the mental health support I need!! Short documentaries can be a magical form of storytelling. They can open windows into a tapestry of lives and find magic in mundane places. This, we hope will be true of ‘Washing Away’.
