I saved another honey 🍯 bee 🐝’s life 🌱 today 🩵 I had my @contourcube 🧊 cube so I fed it water from the melted ice and then I went back to my apt for some honey 🍯 and squeezed it in front of the bee and he started eating the honey and drinking the water 💧 too. At the end the honey bee looked happy! I hope Alfred survived this ordeal. And I hope he didn’t get eaten by a spider 🕷️🥹I heard that honey bees get exhausted sometimes and faint. I did witness a dead bee too 🥲 it was too late for that one.. I’ve rescued a couple of bees from the hot tub and swimming pool these past few years. I think 🧐 🤔 💭 that they think the swimming pool and hot tub is clean drinking water and then they get surprised 😲 when it’s chlorine poor bees 🐝 🦸♀️ not all heroes wear capes 🥰🥳

Love a Honeybee ❤️ 🐝Plant diverse types of flowers in your landscape. Try to make sure you have something in bloom from April through the hard freezes of early November. The most critical time for the bee is early spring, the summer dearth usually in July, and late fall. 🐝Use clover in your grass seed mix, or allow it to come into your lawn naturally. 🐝Celebrate dandelions in spring and don’t mow until they’ve bloomed. Avoid applying pesticides to your lawn when clover or dandelions are in bloom. 🐝Plant high nectar and pollen producing shade trees like basswood or linden, maples and willows where appropriate. 🐝Avoid purchasing plants which may have been treated with systemic insecticides which could harm bees when they collect the plants nectar or pollen. Purchase plants that are labeled as neonicitinoid free, or ask your local garden center about bee-friendly plants. 🐝 Purchase locally grown honey from folks like us. There have been reports that some imported honey contains cane or corn-based sugar. While the USDA tests imported honey, they cannot test every batch. Make sure you are buying the good stuff by getting to know your beekeeper. 🐝 Limit the use of insecticides and herbicides on your lawns and landscapes, especially if anything in the area is in bloom. 🐝 If you are spraying, do so at night, when the bees are not flying. One of our thirst aid kits came into its own today and an exhausted bee was saved! A customer who works in a school was presented with an upside down bee by a student. Friendly reminder from our bee friends 🐝💭 When you see a bee in a bucket of water that is completely still and looks like it has drowned, don't assume it is dead! Take a millisecond out of your day to grab a nearby leaf, pinecone, or stick and rescue the little guy or gal! I found this little soaking wet buzzy in one of our horses water buckets yesterday afternoon. We found this bumblebee on our way home, it was lying in the middle of the pavement and at first we decided it was gone. My son however insisted on taking her somewhere so no one would step on it and when I put the bee on a leaf it suddenly started quietly buzzing and moving its limbs! It’s hard to understand what the bee meant when it was crawling around the leaf, shaking its legs in a funny way. It could be anything from “thank you” to something totally opposite. 😸 But we couldn’t leave it on the ground anyway. We put the the bee on the bin near our house, and offered it some flowers. I red that the best things is to either put it on a flower or give it sugar water. But while I was making sugar water the bee felt much better and… flew away! We recently had the opportunity to visit hive member and Bee Grant recipient @nyc_gesc. And we have to admit - we're still BUZZING from the visit! The mission of Genovesi Environmental Study Center (ESC) is to provide opportunities for environmental exploration and discovery for the youth of New York City, and they are knocking it out of the park. From an acre+ of lush grounds and specialized flora and fauna programs, to a biotechnology lab with professional-grade equipment, there are incredible, hands-on environmental learning opportunities in every corner. Bee friend rescue. Found this guy on the sidewalk yesterday evening so placed him on a bush. This morning he was still there but damp and cold so I brought him into my office to warm up. Late this afternoon I gave him so sugar water to see if that would help perk him up. Sure did! After having a snack, grooming himself, then pumping himself up to get his body ready he started buzzing again. I wasn’t able to capture the moment he flew out of the cup because he was too fast. Save a bee with sugar and water. If you see one struggling, help it if you can. I carefully rescued this little (not so little, pretty big as bees go) fella today off a road and placed him carefully on an appropriate area of shrub land. I then gave it some water and sugar to give it a much-needed boost and to thank it for letting me to take photos of him or her. The RSPB suggests getting a small container or spoon and offering two tablespoons of granulated white sugar to one tablespoon of water. Photos by Andy Neal #saveabee #macrophotography
