On Saturday, I loaned my traps to a woman who lives near me so she can start trapping in her neighborhood. She will also be going through our local shelter's TNR program. She was able to trap her first cat today, and we think it is the female all of the tom cats have been harassing! 🤗 I love that she recognized an issue, and instead of asking for someone to handle the issue for her, she asked how SHE could do it!!! In response to me helping her, she gave me this beautiful rosebush! I was shocked and so grateful! It's been rough, but things are finally getting better. Merlot and I live with my mom and her 3 cats. They all get along well which makes me happy, Merlot missed having a kitty family. Living in hotels and moving a lot has been hard on them, but we are stable now and we are all settling in. Merlot and I have been working on harness training again, which is going well. He really enjoys going out to the park. Now that we are doing better we are looking forward to trying to get back into helping the community. We have a neighbor in mind that has some community cats that really need TNR (trap, neuter, relase) and we maybe be able to find a program that will cover the spay/neuter cost we jusy have to do the trapping, which can be difficult but these poor babies don't deserve to die and suffer on the streets #tnrsaveslives #adoptdontshop #helpcommunitycats #feralcatsmatter

This striking short-haired black female cat has had it rough so far, but that hasn’t stopped her from being the gentlest soul you’ll ever meet in a cat. She’s happy and content to just rest in a warm sunny place, but itch her behind her ears for more than two seconds though and she’ll gleefully roll over and soak in all the love and attention she can get! She is well adjusted to other cats and dogs, knowing how to handle herself perfectly and get along just fine, and while she loves getting love from humans, she seems happiest when she has another cat to be her buddy. Selena may look familiar to some of you because she was with us previously; she was adopted, but then returned to us after testing positive for Calicivirus. Although this is a very common feline issue, it doesn’t seem to affect her beyond getting stuffy noses. Oh boy, what a day. I guess Buckie (now Basia) knew it’ll be busy and I need an early start so she woke me up at 5 am nudging my face with her nose. Kittens got a bath as they were filthy and covered with fleas and their droppings so much that the water turned red. We always use revolution/selarid for fleas as it’s very effective and safe even for young kittens. Then we took them to a vet as they’re sneezing, and eyes/noses have discharge so needed to make sure they get proper treatment. They pooped themselves all over on the way, so much for the bath to make them clean😅 Than we gathered some deli cats for their spay surgery tomorrow and set on the way to try to trap Bogart. He’s been around on the streets for over 10 years but few months ago we heard about him because he had some bad wound in his face. When we first saw him he looked horrible… we tried to trap him multiple times but with no success until today. He’s safe and now, with your, help we hope we can provide him with medical care he desperately needed for so long. His eye socket tissue have some sort of infection/ulcer. Every single time I say we’re full right now and can’t take on any more cats until we do some adoptions… a cat shows up literally at our door needing help. And who am I to say no when they’re right at our house, asking for assistance? We all know, I can’t do that. Meet our newest intake, who is absolutely terrified but already settling in enough to eat and use her litterbox (and not just to hide in). We’ve been trying to catch her for a few weeks, as we heavily suspect she has a broken leg. We’ll have updates on her as soon as we can get her in with our vets to do radiographs and determine the exact cause of her not using her leg. Many of you followed and supported Pretzel through his fight with FIP and the 84 days of injections followed by 84 days of observation. FIP has been a death sentence and support from all of you allowed us to save his life! 💕 He is getting restless and it’s time to get him adopted into his very own forever home. Pretzel is also FIV+ but can live with cats who do not have FIV. Cats who are FIV+ live just as long and healthy lives as non-FIV+ cats. Pretzel is a wonderful, very dog like cat who follows people around. 🐾 Pretzel is a very friendly boy to both humans and felines alike and has a way of bringing the shy cats out of their shells. 🥰 Pretzel comes with his precious, but very shy girlfriend, Minnie who was brought in with her litter of kittens to SCCWM. Minnie is a hesitant girl, and when she isn’t with Pretzel she’s usually hiding. Minnie does, however, allow pets and will lick treats off your fingers. Respectful children are ok. Kittens🤩 • Yesterday we were notified of a family of kitties living in a house that’s been on the market. Once we got the address we packed up a trap and some transfer cages and headed over. When we got there there was no sign of babies but we did spot mom in the backyard. We quickly set a trap and waited. While we waited we took a quick stroll around the block to find another house with 15+ (mostly fixed) and 3 moms with very young kittens. We talked to the homeowner and they were so excited to get help, however we were unable to trap them yet. Once we got back to our trap mom was inside and we found kittens hiding under the outdoor AC unit. After some wrangling we got all four one with only one baby bite. We took them home, gave them baths, and fed them. They are now waiting for foster and rescue offers❤️

🎺YOU GUYS!!!🎺 I applied for an @ashleyskittenacademy grant, and I got one!! 🥳🎉👏🏻👍🏻🙌🏻🤯👯♀️😻 I got a real live phone call from @youngestoldcatgrandma on Monday. Talk about a surprise! I admit, I did fangirl out a bit. 🤭🤩😂 Since I'm not a 501c3, there are some logistics to be solved; I can't receive the funds directly so I need to find an organization to work with. But since today is Sunday, that's a task for tomorrow! 😹 Up till now I've been paying for many of the spay/neuter surgeries I've facilitated out-of-pocket, with help from the feeders and trappers who are able to pay and Pawsitive Change for Kitsap Cats (see them on Facebook). I'm always shy about asking for contributions so the cost is starting to add up. This will be a HUGE help to me, the unowned cats of Kitsap County, and the people who care about them. 💝 This grant is specifically for spay/neuter surgeries for TNR cats, but it will free up my own cash to help the occasional pet owner who is in over their heads. @kitsaphumanesociety charges a surrender fee to help cover the costs of care and feeding of the surrendered cats (incl. *any* medical care.) They have been generously waiving some of the fees for the friendly TNR cats I bring them, but I cover the fee for pet owners who make the tough decision to do the right thing for their cats. ❤️💔❤️ I've been sitting on this news all week, pondering how I can create some sort of structure in my processes. But now it's time to celebrate and get this show on the road! Snippets from our first week with this stunning little family! Mom was spayed, vaccinated, and tested negative for FIV and FELV 🎉 They said she was in heat at the time of her spay which means we got them just in the nick of time and prevented her from having another pregnancy! The vets at the ASPCA also noted that she had a low heart rate, also known as bradycardia. It wasn’t dangerously low, but definitely something we need to keep an eye on! It is with heavy heart and shock that Sammy has left us to cross the rainbow bridge unexpectedly. It was the most confusing and shocking because Sammy had no suspected illnesses and past very fast as I suspect it was a heart attack. Sammy greeted us in 2017 at the M colony and we instantly fell in love with him, he was a wild man most days he’d travel from the M colony to my work colony. He was impossible to trap he was too the typical “Tom” In winter 2021, during a snow fall he had a paw injury and what perfect timing to capture him for TNR, thankful for my dear friend @mattmaniaaa that day. A week or two into recovery Sammy caught interest in getting to know my current house residents and I opened the cage and told him if he wanted to he could… that was a journey in itself where for the longest while he lived under my couch and didn’t make himself fully comfortable in the entire house for up to a year and a half. Sammy lived inside the last three years of his life, with warm comfort and so much love. With two of his colony mates, and although I know the time is very difficult for us now I hope that with healing we will find comfort in the positives that weve done for him. Our home is so incredibly empty without his presence.
