I love Redbubble. And I LOVE The Murderbot Diaries! Confession. Other than my lifelong love affair with Star Wars (I’m talking >45 years), I’ve never been a huge sci-fi fan and never read it. Until now. Yes, I only started reading the series because of Alexander Skarsgård’s involvement in the @appletv adaptation, but still, I can’t put them down! Last night, I was up until 2:30 again. (How nice to have something other than my chronic pain keep me awake!) There’s the action and suspense you’d expect, but my favourite aspects are the abundant humour and Murderbot’s evolving humanity. Tremendously entertaining character. Fantastic writing. I can’t recommend the series highly enough. Oh, and I mustn’t forget to mention how greatly I appreciate the inclusive nature of @marthawellswriter’s writing and the wide array of representation. I’m interested to see how the books translate to the screen given how much of the story takes place via Murderbot’s (sarcastic, often hilarious) internal dialogue. The different stages experienced by a couple, being placed in parallel with one of the most extreme jobs there is and at the same time the favorite of the action genre: spy agent. And it really works, because they were also added to the main recipe along with action, drama and romance, a measure of humor, a spoonful of suspense and a genuine everyday life that is very striking. As if that were not enough, also add some fun cameos in some of the episodes and you will have the formula for success. The main couple is shown to have good chemistry, considering all the moments the couple goes through. The photography also stands out, pointing to a set of filters that accurately accompany the emotional atmosphere of the scenes. And finally, the locations. They are spectacular. Italy is magnificent under the lens of the filmmakers of this series and is very well incorporated into the main story. インフィニティ・プール Infinity Pool / 2023 / カナダ、クロアチア、ハンガリー / 117分 film rating: B+ 高級リゾート地リ・トルカン島にやって来た、書けなくなった作家ジェームズ（アレクサンダー・スカルスガルド）と、その裕福な妻エム（クレオパトラ・コールマン）は、ジェームズのファンだというガビ（ミア・ゴス）とその夫アルバン（ジャリル・レスペール）に声を掛けられ、意気投合する。それが悪夢の始まりだった。 - 『ビデオドローム』『ザ・フライ』などで知られるカナダの鬼才デヴィッド・クローネンバーグの息子ブランドンの、長編映画監督3作目である。私は過去2作を見逃していたのでこれがお初。予備知識は殆ど無しに観たら、まさに闇鍋映画。最初から最後まで、ジェームズが体験する地獄行きを楽しめた。麻薬、セックス、暴力、SF、ホーム・インベージョンなど内容は盛り沢山だ。ジャンルとしてはカフカに連なる不条理ホラーと言っても良いだろう。アレクサンダー・スカルスガルドが好演する気弱な主人公の巻き込まれっぷりが面白い。けどこれはミア・ゴスの映画でもあった。 - 『Pearl パール』でも素晴らしかったミア・ゴスの演技は、同作を想起させてまたかとも思ったパターンだったが、彼女の顔面力が大好きなので非常に楽しめた。あの眉無しに見える特異な容姿を存分に使っていて、存在感が満点だ。画面に出ているだけで、何をしでかすのやらという妙な緊張感がある。観ていて楽しいスターである。 - ブランドンは父と違い、前述の闇鍋作戦と主人公の変容を効かせて、2時間弱の映画を持たせる。父からの影響は多大であっても自己消化しているのと、シンプルな作風の父と違って過剰な語り口が面白い。トリップする場面など延々と続くので少々やり過ぎの感もあるが、私はそういった箇所も含めて楽しめた。 - 全く楽しそうでも暑そうでもない、彩度が低いリゾート地として、映画は撮られている。ジェームズも最初はリゾート地を出ると危険との感覚だったのが、段々と麻痺して大胆になっていく。主人公たちの行動のタガが外れて行くと、映像の彩度が高くなる。ジェームズが活き活きとしていくのを表現しているのだ。そこに放り込まれるのが、クローンを使っての自分殺しという題材だ。この国では観光客が犯罪を犯すと死刑になる。死刑では観光客が来なくなるが、地元住民たちの感情も考慮しないといけない。そこで観光客に費用を負担させて、記憶も肉体も同じクローンを作り、それを代わりに処刑するのだ。ここで殺されるのは本当にクローンなのか、それとも自分なのか。だがその題材も、登場人物たちの異国での優位感や万能感についても、映画を面白くするためだけに使われており、深く掘り下げられてはいない。ブランドン・クローネンバーグは、単純に自分が好きな題材を集めた娯楽映画として作りたかったのだろうか。その点で表層的で底が浅いが、娯楽ホラーとして気軽に楽しめるのもまた事実である。 - 劇中に登場する、島で作られているという異様な仮面や、架空の文字など、全体的にデザインが素晴らしい。同様にパンフレットも、ビザやチケット、島の観光ガイドを模していたりで凝ったデザイン（石井勇一）だ。文字量をもっと増やしてもらいたかったが、めくっているだけで楽しい。 - 好事家は機会があれば、是非。 - - - #インフィニティプール #映画 #新作映画 #ブランドンクローネンバーグ #アレクサンダースカルスガルド #ミアゴス #クレオパトラコールマン #トーマスクレッチマン #ホラー #映画部 #映画レビュー #映画好き #映画好きと繋がりたい #映画パンフレット #石井勇一 #infinitypool #cinema #cinephile #movie #moviereview #horrormovies #brandoncronenberg #alexanderskarsgård #alexanderskarsgard #miagoth #cleopatracoleman #thomaskretschmann
