I've been having some fun lately sifting through old boxes full of slides and negatives in my parents' house. I digitize the interesting things that strike me, including memories and literally new discoveries. If it weren't for this famous photographic evidence, everything would have a surreal and dreamlike flavor. In fact, that's how it is anyway. Here me with my parents on a holiday in Puglia, Italy in August 1984. ✌🏻 #archivephotography #生活とフィルム #フィルム #film

Preorder Marigolds! The weaving threads whisper tales of ancient textiles, the legacy of Assam weaves echoes the enchanting melodies of Bengal’s Baluchar. A symphony of artistry unfolds, where weavers from Murshidabad in lower Assam weave dreams, while the indigenous talents of upper Assam imbue the fabric with a unique rare essence. This union bestows upon Assam’s tapestry a kaleidoscope of textures, value , and craftsmanship. Beholding a saree in the likeness of Baluchar, I felt no surprise, for it shimmered with familiarity. Amidst our botanical odyssey, a vision unfurled before me - to revive this design in two ethereal forms in Assam. First, in the beloved nuni muslin’s ethereal gossamer embrace, Second, in the opulent embrace of mulberry silk’s weave. This comes with an option for body colours in white, beige, Maroon, black, navy blue, and bottle green with complimentary motif colours. With our looms and artisans scarce, we take preorders, ensuring those who yearn to possess this marvel can own it without bearing the burden of development costs. By popular demand, the nuni cotton weave had to restart, so adding new designs for those who can never have one nuni cotton in their wardrobe. #preorder #dreamyweaves #botanical #punarnawasarees #textilesofbaluchar #archivalphoto

Throwback to our first librarian 📚 Mrs. Catherine K. Phillips, who single-handedly maintained the Mattituck Free Library for 37 years. She did it all: discharging books, registration, cataloguing, book purchasing, monthly and annual reports, reference, and working with children. In recognition, Judge Ralph W. Tuthill, President of the Board of Trustees, honored her with a bronze plaque at her retirement (second photo). 🏆 Not all heroes wear capes - sometimes they’re found behind a fabulous pair of cat eye glasses and a kind smile. This photo of an unidentified woman was taken by Albert J. Ewing, between 1896 and 1912, and believed to have been taken in Shawnee. Ewing took thousands of photographs of towns, buildings, and people around southeast Ohio and central West Virginia during his career. The Ohio History Connection is home to the Ewing archive and describes it below: "Traveling photographer Albert J. Ewing was born in 1870 in Washington County, Ohio, near Marietta. He most likely began his photography career in the 1890s, and the 1910 US Census and a 1912-1913 directory both list his profession as "photographer." A negative signed “Ewing Brothers” and a picture with his younger brother, Frank, indicate that the latter may also have joined the business. During the period of 1896 to 1912, Ewing traveled extensively as an itinerant photographer in southeastern Ohio and central West Virginia, dealing primarily in individual and group portraits, as well as landscapes and others scenes of daily life. After 1916, directories list Albert as a salesman. He died in 1934. The Ewing Collection consists of 5,055 glass plate negatives, each individually housed and numbered. Additionally, the collection includes approximately 450 modern contact prints made from the glass plate negatives. Subjects include infants and young children, elderly people, families, school and religious groups, animals and rural scenes. The Ohio History Connection (at the time known as the Ohio Historical Society) received the collection in 1982, still housed in the original dry plate negative boxes purchased by Ewing. A selection of the original glass plate negatives were exhibited for the first time in 2013 at the Ohio History Center." Many photos in our archive were donated to us by residents or families of former residents. One of these photos depicts Mrs. Elizabeth Gibbons Hughes standing on her front porch. Elizabeth lived at the corner of Walnut Street and Second Street in Shawnee. This photo was taken in the 1940s, presumably between 1942 and 1945. How do we know this? Notice the star in the window behind her. Such stars were displayed during World War II to indicate a family member was serving in the military. #littlecitiesofblackdiamonds #shawneeohio #perrycounty #worldwar2 #archivalphoto #southeastohio #appalachia #appalachianohio #ohiohistory #ohioswindingroad

Our best seller in 2023 was this simple but durable Short Top Tan Metal Edge Box (04-003). What do so many people have in their collections? 4 x 6" photographs! And the easiest, most basic step you can take in your home archiving journey is to place those photos into this box. Even if you don't have the time now to organize and label your photos, putting them into an archival box and storing it in your living space (closets are good) is a great beginning! This box will hold about 1,050 4 x 6" photos. We sell Photo Box Spacers (04-818) separately if you need to prop up photos in a partially filled box. Our 4 x 6 Simple Kit (60-1050-TN) comes with a Spacer and a pack of archival Index Cards. These boxes are also good for storing 4 x 6 postcard collections. #archival #archivalbox #archivalphoto #archivalphotostorage #photobox #archivalstorage #postcardstorage #paperstorage #archivalmethods #metaledgebox #shorttopbox #snapshots #snapshotstorage #familyphotos #savefamilyphotos

Glouster's former Stocklein's Meat Market building was one of the most important commercial structures in the community when this photo was taken in 1914. Stocklein's also housed a grocery and bakery, too. The Glouster post office was located on the opposite side of the building from where this photo was taken. Residents would have been able to get off of a train at the depot next door, stop to check their mail, and pick up fresh groceries before heading home. The population of Glouster was nearing 3,000 when this photo was taken. Today, the population is about one-half of that (1,659 during the 2020 Decinnial Census). This impressive brick building was located where the Certified Oil gas station now stands, next to the historic Glouster Depot. The solo exhibition consisted of archival photographs and textile works sourced from the Warner family archive. When asked about his familial history, and how time and space appear in the work, Cyle explains, "I wanted to create this piece because it's larger than most people are, it's wider than most people are, so you're able to step into this piece almost as a portal and be transported.
