* 1 DE MAIG: UN COL·LECTIU INVISIBLE J.F. Millet, “Les espigadores” (1857). Estil: realisme. #VADEDONESTASTETDART * MAY 1: AN INVISIBLE COLLECTIVE JF Millet, “Les espigadores” (1857). Style: realism. Tribute to working women in the countryside. When Millet presented this work to French society it was not well liked. The fact of showing farm workers working as a central theme was not understood. Observing the work we see how the women collect with their hands the leaves from the wheat harvest when there is still a little light and the sun has not set. Millet takes a risk with the subject by highlighting the collective of farm workers, a collective without voice or vote, an invisible collective. #VADEDONESTATETDART #art #artist #paint #painter #arte #artinstagram #historiadelarte #poramoralarte #artehistoria #museum #historyofart #arthistorystudent #arthistory #arthistorian #history #artlovers #artlover #artlove #loveart #loverartcom #pintura #picture #artmagazine #arteducation #1demayo #diadeltrabajador

Scroll back and find the most beautiful patterns and colour compositions by @christinadekorte. Most of the works are on view @artonpaperamsterdam (booth 16) and some you will find online as she also works on textile. Pssst - All artworks are ready to be shipped worldwide. ✈️ About Christina de Korte (1997) was born in the Netherlands and currently works and lives in the Netherlands. She graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Art in Utrecht (HKU) and with a degree in Language- and Culture studies from Universiteit Utrecht (UU) in 2022. De Korte is a passionate collector, a tendency she developed as the child of a father who was always travelling and bringing home objects, souvenirs and stories of faraway places and cultures. The collections that amassed at her parent’s home have been a starting point for her own practice. De Korte began by photographing the cabinets, drawers and boxes stuffed full of curiosities and everyday objects, which she made into a book entitled Thuis, the Dutch word for “home”. The artist then translated this fullness to her studio, which resembles something of a stall at a textile market. The many paintings in her installation zoom in on details from scenes all around her, for instance pieces of Vlisco textile or a photograph taken at a crowded market in Zagreb. The installations of De Korte submerge you into a visual explosion of colors and visual motives as if everything is in motion and restlessly finding its way towards you, vying for your attention.” - Yoeri Guépin. Besides her art practice, Christina de Korte is learning Arabic and is delving into “non-Western” art forms, religions, textile and history. The combination of working in her studio and doing research reinforce each other. From August 2022 until mid-April 2023 she lived in Egypt to learn the Egyptian dialect, take various courses about local techniques and work as an artist in residence in Caïro. #art #artonpaper #textileart #textileartist #artoninstagram #christinadekorte #rademakersgallery #artcollector #youngtalent #justgraduated #femalefounders #patterns #pienrademakers #arthistorian #womaninart

Dining on a Cruise Ship: You have 2 options when it comes to dinner on a cruise ship. 1. Eat in the cafeteria style dining hall 2. Make reservations in the main dining hall or at one of the restaurants We did "My Dining Time." This is when you select to have dinner in the main dining room. When you book your cruise, you can either have time assigned to you or you decide your time. We wanted the flexibility to decide what time we would have dinner, which was typically around 8 p.m. When you arrive at the main dining hall, you just check in, and you are seated. We didn't do the restaurants because they were a bit pricy and booked. When dining on a cruise ship, remember your dining attire. Most nights, it is "Smart Casual," which is as a step up from your typical dinner wear. I like to refer to it as "Sunday Best." Collared shirts, dresses, skirts and blouses, or pantsuits. Jackets, sports coats, and blazers are the main attire. #travel #travelgril #travelplanner #traveler #travelguide #travellife #art #arthistory #arthistorian #arteducator #barcelona #spain #spaintravel #spaintraveler #cruise #cruiseship #cruisevacation #cruisetravel #royalcaribbean #royalcaribbeancruise #royalcaribbeaninternational

⁣ Hugh Goldwin Riviere ⁣ The Garden of Eden⁣ 1901⁣ ⁣ “The Garden of Eden depicts a young couple walking through Kensington Gardens by Lancaster Gate on a rainy day. It is a touching scene of two otherwise insignificant people made significant by the love they bear each other. Their fixed gazes show the depth of their affection that converts, for them, the dreariness of the chilly city into paradise; a transformation underscored by the title’s biblical reference to the paradise of Eden. The pair are isolated from the bustling realm of the city cabs by the park railings and from the natural world by the low-level boundary rail. This isolation highlights that their respite from busy urban life is man-made and fleeting. The pleasing grey and blue tones conveying the scene’s light and atmosphere help the viewer to understand how the otherwise wintry environment might seem beautiful to a couple so overcome with love. The couple portrayed in The Garden of Eden is Beatrice Langdon-Davies, Rivière’s sister-in-law, and her fiancé Percy Silley, an architect. The pair were closely chaperoned during the making of the work and were married not long after it was completed.”⁣ ⁣ 🏛️ (Guildhall Art Gallery - London, UK) ⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #paintings #painting #artlovers #famousartists #famousart #artlegends #masterpieceart #artmasterpieces #thearts #everythingart #arteverything #artislife #fineart #arthistorian #arthistorynerd #arthistory #historyofart #kunst #arte #artonig #igart #konst #hughgoldwinriviere #thegardenofeden ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

—— 🪡 : We have already seen the diversity of prints by Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806), but this is the first time we have seen a composition from the series devoted to women’s manual labour. A work like this one, produced between 1797 and 1798, allows the artist to highlight not only the dexterity of the weaver, but also the know-how required to practise this profession. This type of print enabled the Japanese artist to concentrate on reality, as he was determined to faithfully transcribe what he saw. Here he observes a gesture, a habit and a knowledge, things that are difficult to perceive in a frozen composition. It is with this type of work that we see the talent of Kitagawa Utamaro, who influenced artists all over the world. - Musée Guimet, Paris, France 📍 - - Maxime Daniel 📸 #utamaro #art #artist #artoftheday #artasia #artasiatique #print #estampe #estampes #museum #museumfromhome #japanart #japanartist #artjapan #artjaponais #historyofart #arthistory #arthistorian #arthistorynerd #peinture #paint #paintings #paintingoftheday #masterpiece #tisserand #chefdoeuvre #learnart #artlearning #culture #cultureart

“Palazzo Chiaramonte Steri” - XIV sec. - at #palazzosteri.

First Day of Cruising: The first day of cruising can be overwhelming for there is so much that you have to do. You have to make sure you are at the right terminal not to mention on the right cruise ship. Once you get to your cruise ship you have to check in. Staff will check your tickets, check your luggage and you get your "cruise passport picture" taken. Don't forget your passport! Know this that when cruising once you check your luggage in you will not see it again until you are allowed to check into your suite. You never know when you can go to your suite. They will make an announcement once everyone has boarded the ship and you can go to your suites. I recommend having an extra change of clothes in your carry on especially a swim suit. This way you can swim and sunbathe while waiting for your suite to be ready. The dinning rooms will be open so that guests can eat. Most guests will have just gotten off planes and are exhausted. We saw a lot of people sleeping in lounge chairs 🤣. When waiting for your suite go and explore the cruise ship. This is a good time to see what is on the ship and where to find restaurants, the pools and entertainment. When booking our cruise we selected the balcony suite. The balcony suites are more expensive but worth it! The have a bathroom, full size bed, a couch which turns into a fold out bed and an office area. It was the perfect amount of space for us and we loved how "roomy" it was. When booking your cruise be aware that your suite price is based on the type of suite you get and the floor of the cruise ship. Many people will do the interior suite since it is the cheapest but there is no window. Just like hotels there is room service and the suites are cleaned everyday. Also, on your first day you have to attend the safety meeting where you learn what to do if there is an emergency on the ship. #travel #travelgril #travelplanner #traveler #travelguide #travellife #art #arthistory #arthistorian #arteducator #barcelona #spain #spaintravel #spaintraveler #cruise #cruiseship #cruisevacation #cruisetravel #royalcaribbean #royalcaribbeancruise #royalcaribbeaninternational

Back to the sources- In 2000 I visited the first mono exhibition of Jean-Marc Nattier at Versailles. So, what impact did the ladies of the court of Louis XV have on Marianne -then 14 years old? I was already painting then, but my passion for historical fashion was limited to day dreaming over François Boucher- not the painter!- but the author of a magnificent book over fashion history that our school had and that I loved to look in during the few “free hours” that we had in the Lycée International de Saint-Germain-en-Laye. I did a copy in pastel of Nattier too… the one here is my personal interpretation in the style I developed since my training in classic art. What impact/impression? Well, the fascination for the “dressed up” and shaped ultra-feminine silhouettes of the 18th century- no matter how impractical they are- and the sugar sweet appearance of the ladies was quite pleasing too. #arthistory #exhibition #storytelling #becomingme #artistsoninstagram #nattier #fashionhistory #myhistory #arthistorian #mylibrary

“It was Manon. It was she indeed, but more bewitching and brilliant than I had ever beheld her. She was now in her eighteenth year. Her beauty beggars all description. The exquisite grace of her form, the mild sweetness of expression that animated her features, and her engaging air, made her seem the very personification of love. The vision was something too perfect for human beauty.” — Excerpt from “Manon Lescaut” by ABBÉ PRÉVOST 🥀 . . . . Art:🖼️ “Manon” (engraving) by Albert Lynch, Illustration for The Illustrated London News, 30 September 1899. Private Collection. 📚 Histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut (Story of the Chevalier des Grieux and of Manon Lescaut), more commonly known as Manon Lescaut, is a novel by the Abbé Prévost (1697-1763), first published in Paris in 1731. Considered scandalous at the time, it was immediately banned. The novel tells the story of Chevalier des Grieux and his lover, the amoral courtesan Manon Lescaut. Des Grieux is from a noble family, but he forfeits his inheritance when he displeases his father and runs away with Manon. The two live together in Paris for a time, but des Grieux begins a downward descent into poverty and criminality. Manon is eventually deported as a prostitute to New Orleans, where des Grieux follows her. After a series of misadventures, the couple flees into the wilderness of Louisiana, where Manon dies of exposure and exhaustion. Des Grieux returns to France. This novel originally formed the last part of a seven-volume series called Mémoires et aventures d'un homme de qualité (Memoirs and adventures of a man of quality). . . . . . . . #manon #manonlescaut #engraving #mezzotint #albertlynch #peruvianartist #parisianartist #academicart #artnouveau #modern #victorian #victorianera #belleepoque #novel #frenchliterature #portraitpainting #femaleportrait #femalebeauty #womeninart #arthistory #arthistorian #historyofart #storiadellarte #artoftheday #europeanart #art #frenchart #artgallery #fineart #19thcenturyart

GIVEAWAY 📖 Win the catalogue 'Beyond the Page: South Asian Miniatures and Britain, 1600 to now' from the exhibition held at @theboxplymouth from 17th February–2nd June 2024. This exhibition boldly and gracefully traces the impact of Britain’s colonial rule in South Asia on the arts, culture and society of both regions. The transfer of knowledge and culture between the East and the West has long been studied and variously vilified and celebrated. ⁣ Pablo Picasso⁣ Woman with Folded Arms⁣ 1901–02⁣ ⁣ “Femme aux Bras Croisés is a portrait of a woman sitting in a prison cell. The image conveys an atmosphere of misery and torment, which is achieved by the woman’s body posture and the starkness of her surroundings. Her crossed arms and blank stare illustrate her isolation, while her physical and emotional disconnection reflects her social isolation.⁣ It is believed that the painting was begun in France in the second half of 1901 and then moved to Spain, where Picasso made changes to the composition. This was confirmed by x-ray, which showed that Picasso had repainted the woman’s hair over a previous hood.⁣ In her 1957 book Pablo Picasso, Antonina Vallentin discusses the haunting qualities of this painting. She considers the subject to be an inmate who recently attempted suicide and now carries the blank but menacing stare of those unfortunates who found themselves at Saint-Lazare hospital-prison during the early 1900s.”⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #paintings #painting #artlovers #famousartists #famousart #artlegends #masterpieceart #artmasterpieces #thearts #everythingart #arteverything #artislife #fineart #arthistorian #arthistorynerd #arthistory #historyofart #kunst #arte #artonig #igart #konst #pablopicasso #picasso #womanwithfoldedarms #modernart #blueperiod ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Have you never been on a cruise before? My husband and I had never been on a cruise before. We typically stay in a hotel and do what we want to type travelers. What we had the hardest time with "cruising" was being on "cruise time." You have to leave the ship at a certain time, and if you are not back in time, you miss the boat! We struggled with this because we wanted to stay in our port destinations longer to explore, sight see, and eat. What we did love is that we didn't have to keep packing our bags and moving from hotel to hotel we could just stay put! This made the trip so much more relaxing. We will not be regular cruisers, but we definitely will want to visit multiple places that are new to both of us. Cruising gives you a great taste, glimpse, and idea of each port destination, which will want you to travel back and spend more time in that destination. #travel #travelgril #travelplanner #traveler #travelguide #travellife #art #arthistory #arthistorian #arteducator #barcelona #spain #spaintravel #spaintraveler #cruise #cruiseship #cruisevacation #cruisetravel #royalcaribbean #royalcaribbeancruise #royalcaribbeaninternational

Let me introduce Pishraw Khan in this early 17th century portrait. His life story covers three reigns of Mughal history from Humayun to Jahangir. He is well-cited in both the Akbarnama and Jahangirnama, and he even wrote his own memoir that survives, Waqiyat-e-Asad Baig. This lovely portrait identifies him in the inscription at the left. On the day he died in 1608, Jahangir wrote in his memoirs, “On the first of Rajab (Oct 1) Pishraw Khan and Kamal Khan, both of whom were servants well-known to me, died. Pishraw Khan had been given as a slave by Shah Tahmasp to my grandfather. His name was Sa’adat, and when he rose in His Majesty Arsh-Ashyani’s [Akbar’s] service to the office of supervisor and foreman of the carpet department, he was given the title Peshraw Khan. He was so expert and capable in his office that it might as well have been a garment sewn especially for him. At the age of ninety he was more nimble than youths of fourteen. He had the honour to serve my grandfather, my father, and me. Until the moment he died he was not for one instant without the pleasure of wine.” Being superintendednt of Akbar’s farrashkhana (house of carpets) meant Pishraw Khan also took care of the hangings, tents and canopies – and therefore when the imperial camp was on the move, it was under his watch that the camp enclosures were set up. This went hand in hand with his being a daring military man himself. There is a comparable portrait of Pishraw Khan in the Royal Collection dating c.1610, which corroborates his identity and appearance. “The unwearied object of my solicitude was to save Manon from every inconvenience. She felt this, and her gratitude, together with a lively sense of the singular position in which I had placed myself solely for her sake, rendered the dear creature so tender and impassioned, so attentive also to my most trifling wants, that it was between us a continual emulation of attentions and of love. I felt no regret at quitting Europe; on the contrary, the nearer we approached America, the more did I feel my heart expand and become tranquil. If I had not felt a dread of our perhaps wanting, by and by, the absolute necessaries of life, I should have been grateful to fate for having at length given so favourable a turn to our affairs. After a passage of two months, we at length reached the banks of the desired river. The country offered at first sight nothing agreeable. We saw only sterile and uninhabited plains, covered with rushes, and some trees rooted up by the wind. No trace either of men or animals.” — Excerpt from “Manon Lescaut” by ABBÉ PRÉVOST 🥀 . . . . Art:🖼️ Albert Lynch, “The Jolly Boat”, Manon Lescaut And Her Lover Des Grieux Are Set Ashore In Louisiana, 1896. Illustrates Prévost's famous novel of 1731, Manon Lescaut. Collection of M.S.Rau Antiques, United States. 📚 When the young nobleman Des Grieux lays eyes on the beautiful and charming Manon Lescaut, he immediately falls in love with her, and they elope to Paris, incurring the wrath of his family and forfeiting his inheritance. However, he struggles to satisfy her taste for luxury, frittering away the little he has left, and his domestic bliss finally disintegrates when he finds out that Manon has betrayed him for a rich lover. Although causing scandal on its initial publication in 1731 and subsequently being banned, Manon Lescaut proved very popular with eighteenth-century readers, and remains one of literature’s finest and most evocative depictions of obsessive love. #albertlynch #oiloncanvas #peruvianartist #parisianartist #artnouveau #modern #academicart #frenchart #victorian #belleepoque #manonlescaut #novel #frenchliterature #lovers #love #arthistory #arthistorian #historyofart

№ 4063 Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) Les hauteurs de Trouville oil on canvas, 55 x 65.3 cm. Painted in Trouville circa 1885 Private collection • Following his trip to Italy in 1881, Renoir became increasingly preoccupied with the classical traditions of the paysage composé. He and his colleagues had come to question the spontaneity and informality of Impressionist plein-air techniques, and they began to consider and experiment with alternative, more systematic approaches. John House has noted that, ‘Renoir was deliberately moving away from any suggestion of the fleeting or the contingent, away from the Impressionist preoccupation with the captured instant’ (J. House, Renoir, exh. cat., London, 1985, p. 242). During the summer of 1885, Renoir holidayed with his companion Aline Charigot and their newborn son Pierre at La Roche-Guyon, a village on the Seine between Paris and Rouen. Renoir invited Paul Cézanne, his wife and son to join them, and the two families spent four weeks together there from 15 June to 11 July. This invitation was in part an expression of Renoir’s gratitude for the care that Cézanne and his mother had extended to him when he fell ill with pneumonia while visiting them in L’Estaque in late January 1882 on his return from Italy, as well as Cézanne’s hospitality the following year when Renoir visited him following a painting trip to the Riviera with Monet. Renoir and Cézanne welcomed this opportunity in La Roche-Guyon to work side-by-side again, and to discuss the issues of technique that had been on their minds. • • • • • • #Renoir #AugusteRenoir #frenchimpressionism #oilpainter #oilpaintings #oilpainting #artforeveryone #fineartpainting #paintingoftheday #peinture #landscape #historiadelarte #storiadellarte #peintures #historyofart #arthistory #beauxarts #instamuseum #artmuseum #pittura #arthistorian #peintre #malerei #19thcenturyart #oldmasters #impressionism #impressionismo #europeanart #impressionisme #20thcenturyart

№ 4062 Claude Monet (French, 1840 – 1926) Étretat, coucher de soleil Oil on canvas Private collection • The present work depicts one of the three rock arches along the coast around Étretat, the Porte d’Aval, as the sun descends beneath the horizon. The contrast between the shimmering water in the shallows and the golden highlights across the sky imbues the canvas with stunning luminosity. Unlike many of Monet’s other canvases of this area, which depict sailboats, leisure seekers, or even commercial activity, Étretat, coucher de soleil is devoid of any sign of human presence. The focus in this work is squarely on the raw beauty of nature: the majesty of the cliffs, the serenity of the sea, the transcendent glow of a setting sun. • • • #Monet #ClaudeMonet #FrenchArt #FrenchArtist #Masterpiece #artforeveryone #art #fineartpainting #paintingoftheday #peinture #landscape #historiadelarte #storiadellarte #peintures #historyofart #arthistory #beauxarts #instamuseum #artmuseum #pittura #arthistorian #peintre #malerei #19thcenturyart #oldmasters #impressionism #impressionismo #europeanart #impressionisme #20thcenturyart

“Piazza Marina” at @palermocityofficial.

Façade of Siena Cathedral Designed by Giovanni Pisano in 1284, the facade of Siena Cathedral is one of Italy’s most celebrated Gothic structures. Three nearly-equal-sized portals make up the lower level of the façade. They are surmounted by a great number of beautiful marble statues representing biblical figures, which are actually copies of the originals that are housed in the nearby Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. A magnificent rose window pierces the upper story of the façade which is crowned with a massive mosaic-covered gable framed by two marble spires. Unten geht’s weiter 👇🏼🍸👇🏼
