🎧Listened to on Audible. Narrated by CJ Bloom & Jacob Morgan🎧 So I liked it and enjoyed it but I'm also indifferent, which is a weird place to be. I think one of my main issues was the back and forth of will they/won't they etc between Summer & Fitz went on too long and that meant when they did it was a bit too late in the book for their connection to feel as deep and real as it should have. Fitz's reasonings for being quiet and not wanting drama, etc, are valid but didn't feel "deep" enough for him to be so resistant to something with Summer for as long as he was. Summer I liked but didn't. She was snarky & and funny, but some aspects of her character felt forced and unnatural, I can't fully articulate why they just did. I liked that her character showed an aspect of how it can be to live with a learning disability and the external and internal struggles they can cause. I just wish the pacing had been better, and the plot wasn't 70% of them dancing around each other with some other plot points sprinkled in to attempt to keep the book moving. 🎧Listened to on Audible. Narrated by Lucy Rivers & Troy Duran🎧 When I first read this, it got 3 stars, and it stays at 3 stars after this reread. I like the book, its entertaining but it doesn't quite hit the mark when it comes to the relationship between Harley-rose & Danner for me and I think that is because it relies on flashback type scenes to build their emotional relationship rather than giving us more of those kind of moments in the present story. The physical chemistry between them was good. However, the D/s dynamic here wasn't done in the best way. In my opinion, the scenes were hot but felt cheesey at times, and there were no prior conversations in regards to boundaries, etc . The overall plot was engaging and entertaining but I wish we had got more on page scenes with the Fallen characters we have seen in the previous two books as that found family/brotherhood aspect of the story was missing in this one. You’re my sanctuary and the one person who makes me whole.” My heart went out to Creighton, dark, broody rich kid that wouldn’t open up to anyone until Annika, and the two of them couldn’t have been more opposite but I think that is the point with this series and the others that are sort of tied to this series. You have the dark broody, morally grey men and the women that basically bring them to their knees. Creighton although adopted by a family that he loves more than life has lots of pinned up emotions and thoughts of revenge towards those he felt caused him pain as a child. Because he had no outlet other than wanting revenge he just wants to unleash pain on people, he doesn’t talk much, he just observes. In comes Annika to make him see that there is more to life than what he is living, as he slowly lets her in, he decides she will be his and the pain he wanted to inflict on her is followed with pleasure. There is so much to their story that neither of them know and when they do learn it, it could and almost does destroy their relationship. There is definitely some pretty decent spice between the two of them, BDSM and some funny moments laced with sarcasm. I did enjoy this one much better than the first book in this series so I am hoping it continues to get better. I think The Summer we fell is now one of my favorite books of all time, and I won’t ever stop recommending it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 It’s a beautiful, angsty, messy Emotional Romance about meeting the person who knows you better then anyone else, at the wrong time and navigating that while that person just so happens to be your boyfriend’s best friend. It was my first ever MM romance years ago, and it made me fall in love with the genre, and it's now one of my favourite ones to reread whenever I feel the need for a warm hug in book form as I know I'm guaranteed to get just that with this book. Wes & Jamie's story gives me all the warm and fuzzy feelings, and I just adore how they love and support each other and how their relationship develops from friends to more. The chemistry between them is on point, and the spice is great but made more so because you can feel the emotional connection between them. Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan are fantastic in their performances in the audiobook. I love almost every @laurenblakelybooks book but The Almost Romantic is one of my favorites. I was so consumed by the book that when I saw it was going by too quickly I slowed it down to savor the happy, upbeat vibes. The duet narration by Vanessa Edwin and Teddy Hamilton brought the characters and their story to life and I want more of this blended family. I’m glad the series will continue, and hopefully we will catch glimpses of them. The story easily stands alone and it’s just perfect for anyone looking for a mature, smart, light, feel-good romance with enlightened characters.
