The story of a free tree 🌳 ➡️ We were having lunch on a work from home day when Jake saw something in a local WhatsApp and said “do you want a tree? Decide quick” 🤣 ten minutes later…. 1. We looked like twits carrying a tree round the houses 2. Jake was incredibly pleased with himself 3. He dug a big hole and planted the tree 4. We bought a stake to support it 5. And attached it securely 6. Topped it up with compost 7. Gave it lots of water (work in progress!) One of the key pests to look out for are slugs, which enjoy the damp mild weather of autumn. If you have some smaller seedlings that will grow overwinter to bring crops for next year, you don't want them succumbing to slugs! There are a few ways to prevent damage, one of the most effective is using a product called Nemaslug, which provides 6 weeks of protection using natural nematodes. I also am always a fan of going out in the evening with a torch and bucket. Plank traps, where you lay down wood on paths and beds and lift them up the following day to reveal slugs, are also a great option. Some of you may get some vermin damage targeting the last of your corn, drying beans, sometimes beetroot, and sometimes will even try and take a nibble out of your pumpkins! The best option is to harvest any vulnerable crops if you spot some signs of damage. Partly ripening pumpkins will still go fully orange off the vine! Also - check your brassica leaves for a last wind of cabbage white caterpillars - simply remove the caterpillars and some leaves and place on top of the compost - they aren't going to cause any issues! En over inspiratie gesproken, stukje bij beetje word deze achtertuin in Bussum ook steeds mooier. De grote planten zijn nu gepland. Ik ben nu bezig met het verder ontwerp. Normaal gesproken doe ik eerst het hele ontwerp en begin ik dan met de aanleg, bij deze tuin liep dat iets anders. Voordat de sapstroom op pad kwam moesten er een aantal bomen verplant worden.
